Reshade 6.0 gets native support for OpenXr
Supmua replied to speed-of-heat's topic in Virtual Reality
Reshade 5 VR is operated via Steam overlay (Steam OpenVR) and adjusted via VR controllers only. Traditional adjustments via keyboard only affect nonVR mode. -
3 ways to run DCS with Aero: 1. Steam’s OpenVR. The traditional way. However, currently needs —force_steam_VR command to access. This mode allows concurrent use of OpenVR apps (Steam overlay, fpsVR, Reshade, etc.) 2. Varjo’s OpenVR. Default mode when you run DCS normally for the last few patches, but suboptimal with poor frame rate. 3. Opencomposite OpenXR. Still requires —force_steam_VR command, as it intercepts Steam’s OpenVR (not Varjo’s) and converts that to OpenXR. You need SteamVR framework (without GUI) running as background process with the Aero for tracking/controller no matter which mode you choose. You only need full SteamVR interface with Steam OpenVR mode.

Make sure to click on the icon in the lower left corner to bring up the bottom toolbar. Varjo's GUI still carries corporate philosophy where tech support sets up everything and everyone has the same setup and uses exact same settings, so a lot of options are hidden away. This will hopefully change since they seem to have sold a lot of consumer headsets since the introduction of the Aero. Consumer segment in general demands more transparency and variety of options, because gamers will use whatever the heck they want to suit their needs.

It doesn't hurt to try anything just to see for yourself. For OpenXR just use the zip I made and you can just run DCS repair to restore the old OpenVR_API.dll to go back to OpenVR. But from my quick test flights, SteamVR+Reshade yield better framerate (but really not much better), sharpness, ~0.4 higher gamma value. Interestingly, Varjo's OpenVR is still borked with 4 windows in the mirror and bad stuttering (although visual quality is the best compared to OpenXR or Steam's OpenVR, this makes me suspect that it runs default at the Highest Setting which is like >8K total horizontal pixels--I could probably try that mode again with PD of 0.8 or something but I'd rather be playing at this point). Not Vsync. If you bring up Analytics window, there's a bunch of other options.

Hate to say this, but with the latest update including SteamVR beta I get better GPU frametime with SteamVR by 1.5ms. Plus the ability to run Reshade 5 with lumasharpen which makes the ground detail really pop. So I'm back to SteamVR mode for now. You can also lock fps to 45 using Varjo Base app which can make flying pretty smooth if the avg fps is above that.

The best learning experience for me is to practice hovering around the airport runway. Start hot on the runway and just hover around the perimeter at 10ft or less, going forward/backward/sideway etc. IHADSS mode with horizontal line also helps a lot with control as it also tells you what the aircraft is currently doing relative to the horizon so you can make small corrections and sometimes might need a push in stead of a nudge in order to stop the aircraft from sliding away. For easier hovering my typical trim is to have the aircraft pointing downward slightly, this way I only have to worry about holding the stick aft for slowing down/hovering and letting go for forward movement.

OpenXR Guide - Deprecated - This time for real (▀̿Ĺ̯▀̿ ̿)
Supmua replied to nikoel's topic in Virtual Reality
0.6.3 is likely the last version of OpenCompostieACC, as the dev said it's been merged to ZNix's official OpenComposite OpenXR which is now available. -
OpenXR Guide - Deprecated - This time for real (▀̿Ĺ̯▀̿ ̿)

I think for it to work the HMD has to have direct support for OpenXR without relying on SteamVR, and the only HTC headset that I know of that can do this is the Vive Focus 3. Perhaps HTC can offer this feature via software update for other headsets if enough people want this, although I'm pretty sure that all future headsets will have this option as OpenXR is the future of VR. -
I managed to get the universal mod to work, had to edit the .ini file and disable some settings (and also Varjo reset, I think). Now when running crosseye tool, it showed my Aero as Oculus Rift CV1, lol. Interestingly though, you don't really need to run the crosseye tool with the Aero now as the default setting seems spot on. Here is the zip containing the files for people who do not want the headache, just drag and drop into the bin folder that contains DCS.exe. Suggested settings for Varjo Aero: -DCS gamma 2.1 -OpenXR Toolkit: System: res 3360x2879 pixels per eye (this is the lowest res I've used without noticeable difference in visual quality vs default 3608 pixels, including shimmering) -OpenXR Toolkit: Appearance: contrast 50.5, saturation 52.5, highlight 97 (this reduces blownout white on clouds retaining more definitions), shadow 0.5 (making it pop a little more) **best map to test, Apache Hotstart runway Marianas, if your system can handle it** EDIT: to remove yellow haze (personal pref), lower Red and Green in R G B section to 47 each, leave Blue at 50. If you are seeing visual issues with DCS but not other games then the problem is DCS, which has some known issues with the Aero. I didn't crash with FSR or NIS adjustments, btw. Not sure if you've done this already, but I recommend the following. 1. Delete everything related to Reshade within the bin folder, known incompatibility with OpenXR route. 2. Force DCS to run in SteamVR mode, otherwise it'll use Varjo's OpenVR which is currently not working well with DCS. Add the force option to DSC.exe app (Target box in Properties window), "\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World OpenBeta\bin\DCS.exe" --force_steam_VR 3. Use WMR Crosseye alignment tool and flip both L and R eyes (top<>bottom), this will correct distortion and visual artifacts.

The newest OpenXR Toolkit (1.1.0) supports OpenXR resolution override for the Varjo now. It's in the last tab in the setting window, I've been using around 90% rendering (of 3.6k horizontal pixel using Very High mode) and couldn't really tell the diff in visuals but this allows me to maintain constant 45+ fps in Apache hotstart Syria now. I suggest avoid using FSR or NIS as that degrades visual quality and use the resolution override instead. It also adds CPU bound indicator which pops up when that happens, very useful. What's even better is eye-tracking or dynamic foveated rendering which works perfectly in MSFS, unfortunately not in DCS.

Might need to add some more curves to your stick, once you are comfortable you can reduce it. Coming from the Harrier, I find it to be tougher to hover around vs the Apache. The Apache feels more stable, less floaty and twitchy, and also no need to pay attention to water consumption.

Since you're interested. Image size is reduced to 50% due to upload limit. Keep in mind that the red color pop-out is an unwanted effect and I don't believe it has anything to do with NVIDIA setting since it's a known issue even before this thread. I do enjoy the 3D popouts but this is not the type that I had in mind.
-
I can't because you won't see it in screenshots, just as you cannot see stereoscopy in single flat image. This red color behavior nothing new and has been discussed in Varjo discord in the past. I haven't noticed anything with the blue, but the red color pop on dark background is pretty noticeable on my Aero.
-
Interestingly, on the Varjo Aero, red color on black background also exhibits pop-out effect. In DCS, this can be seen with the Apache engine page where the red lines seem to pop out of the MPD background--at least on my headset. In discord app, the 100 reaction icon also exhibits the same thing. When you close one eye the pop-out goes away, I'm not sure if this is due to some sort of optical illusion or slight pixel shift between 2 eye renderings.

I would edit _Global profile directly so it applies to everything. If you don't like it or it doesn't work just restore back to NVIDIA default. For other parameters that I use (can be set directly in NV control panel also): Texture filtering Quality: found in Section 4 Texture Power management: found in Section 5 Common Shader cache max size: in Section Other VR prerendered frames: in Section Other

I had to do this recently as my trigger switch wasn't working properly. In case you find the default detent too hard to squeeze or need to open up the grip for whatever reason, here's the official video. The realistic detention setting which can be rough on bare finger after a long period of squeezing, can be removed. The trigger behaves like a regular joystick trigger afterward. www.realsimulator.com/download/videos/F18CGRH_trigger_modification.mp4 Also...there's some new exciting stuff on the hardware side coming soon.

Just open the zip and drag the contents (3 files and 1 folder) into the \bin folder that has DCS.exe file. It’s supposed to be that simple, remove them to uninstall if you don’t like the mod. You will need the original openVR_api.dll after uninstallation which can be obtained by simply running DCS repair.
-
I still have no explanation how or why it happened but it did happen at least to me and some other people. If you already see good 3D effects then why worry about it. For me I just never experienced good 3D stereoscopic effect in any VR games until recently. I’ll give it a shot, but it’s tough to experience real speed in VR when your headset is 90 Hz but your actual framerate is half of that. Sensation of speed is one area where 2D is still better.

The best map for me so far is Mariana runway start for the Apache, just fly along the waypoints and make sure Water is on high setting. The amount of details is staggering and easily missed unless you're flying low and slow (forget jets). Animated ocean waves, realistic looking rock formations along the coastline, golf courses and hotels, densely populated buildings that don't look like copy and paste jobs, boats bobbing in the piers, etc. This is the only map that rivals MSFS, Syria is up there but a step below.
