I've been doing mostly combat missions (more fun lol), but yeah that cold start area is quite spectacular. It hit my CPU frametime pretty hard on the airfield though, got around 25ms while GPU frametime was only 19-20ms.

AMD 5800X3D, the new King for flight simulators?

Checked 4K performance (Guru3D.com) and it’s roughly the same as Intel 12 gen, so no clear incentive for me to switch side since I don’t go below 4K res especially in VR. -
You can check CPU and GPU frametime numbers with OpenXR Toolkit, look at the differences between those missions and see whether it's CPU or GPU factor or both. Medium textures help improve my CPU frametime with the Apache but YMMV as we don't use the same setup.

AMD 5800X3D, the new King for flight simulators?

Yeah this got me thinking about my next PC upgrade. Never been an AMD CPU fan but if this works better with DCS and MSFS then it might be worth exploring. Need to see some VR benchmarks though, especially with DCS and MSFS. -
Been watching 3D movies...and I think I can reliably see changes when switching the profile back and forth. Only with this though since you can do A/B comparison quickly, I still can't say for sure about DCS. With 3D SBS videos, there's no geometry difference since it's fixed however the video seems to pop more with the vrdirectx profile compared to global one--somebody said before that it was like focus stacking in photography and it's kind of like that. The overall image quality is shaper and has better definition. So I think it may have something to do with texture map? I use Deo VR and free 8K movies on their site, some excellent band music videos on there. Need to run your headset at 100% or higher. The good news is that this takes seconds to do back and forth since you can load the movies very quickly, instead of running DCS each time which can take minutes. The improvement is subtle, sort of like the difference between using old vs new distortion profile for the Varjo Aero. Some people don't see degradation in image quality with the new distortion profile but I do so I'm still using the old one. Also interestingly, some people see red color lift/popout with the new Aero update, others don't, lol, so yeah we see all kinds of things.

AMD 5800X3D, the new King for flight simulators?

Seems so if you play at 1080p. Pretty strong single core performance there, is it due to the 3D cache or something else? -
That is because it is a just simple offset of an identical image intentionally made by me. This second image is my control group in the experiment because if I use identical images with same alignment there would be no red area in the picture, but everybody knows that right and I want to compare the red area vs red area. This is just one sample size vs control so it is not a good study, need to do at least 30-50 of these to check reproducibility but it is time consuming.

Will definitely check it out, thanks. Seems like a must have for helo fans.

And this is image 11.png compared with 11.png with 4 pixels shift to the right. Notice how the thickness of the red area is much more uniform, especially in the distance.
-
Ok I ran images though this site https://online-image-comparison.com/, because I don't trust human eyes when it comes to measuring exact distances. The red areas denote the differences between the two images. The thickness of the red areas indicate the amount of differences. For exact same images, there will be no red area in the comparison photo. And it seems there's a slight difference because the red areas are uneven throughout much less so in the distance, you be the judge whether it's due to alignment issue or real differences. The clouds difference is a given since they're not the same between the two images. For example this is the result from the first 2 images (number 11 and 12).

My bad, didn’t realize VR has to be in capital letters. Varjo is a small company but yeah support could’ve been more robust. They’re very good at getting out replacement headset quickly if you needed one though based on my personal experience.

In mission 2 if you hit the infantry with Hellfire it'll also take out the primary target. Just don't get close, fire from far away near WP3, watch for AAA from the right hand side.

Is this with the Vive Pro 2 or the Reverb G2? I can't help you with Reverb but I know a thing or two about the Vive platform, I did sell my Vive Pro 2 though so no longer have one to test with.

Good luck, I hope it's not a hardware problem.

Yeah I experienced this issue as well that's why I'm using force SteamVR now. If they get this fixed then I might not even need OpenXR since I should be able to get better fps just by bypassing Steam's overhead.
-
Mark, there're people who believe that this profile doesn't do squat so there shouldn't be any effect on your stuttering experience. If you want to go back to the default profile just load the NVinspector app, and it should already bring up _Global profile by default, click apply changes, then reboot your PC. You can also reset everything to default in NVIDIA control panel just in case. If all else fail, DDU wipe NVIDIA but make sure to follow instructions carefully...takes about 10-15 min. Just to be clear, it's not my profile ok lol. I just followed the instructions posted by the OP and there was someone asking for the exported profile for ease of use. Another food for thoughts. If people believe that everything should work the way it's supposed to then everything should be bug-free including DCS itself, right? That's not the case in the real world, as we have reports of all kinds of different results on everything.

The OpenXR mod only intercepts SteamVR's OpenVR, so if he can't get SteamVR going in the first place I do not think it is going to work. Evidence to support this? You need to force SteamVR in command line for OpenXR to work on the Varjo device.
-
If you still see 4 screens in the mirror and no SteamVR toolbar then you're not running DCS through Steam but instead direct OpenVR via the Varjo's runtime. Unfortunately I don't use the stable version so not sure how it is supposed to behave. Have you try to reset the Varjo headset in the Base app? Also make sure OpenVR setting in there is OFF because you want to use the Steam version instead. Might as well run DCS repair then try again. If it still doesn't work I would check with their discord channel for tech support. Or you could try to switch to the beta version instead.

Do you already have good 3D effects with your oculus? If you do then it’s all good. I can check with the Quest 2 if time permits and if I can snatch it away from my kids. This In photography with a good post processing technique (and gear) you can make a photo really pop with 3D-like effect.
-
Hmm yeah that’s another possibility. An ideal testing for me would me 2 identical PC setups with default vs modified profile. If no difference then it points to the corrupted original profile that some might have, because I don’t think my eyes are fooling me. I play daily and have had lots of VR headsets, so it’s not like I haven’t played in a long time and then just noticed the changes.

Your Aero may be using Varjo’s OpenVR mode bypassing Steam with the updated DCS app which currently has a problem. In other words, new DCS app tries direct OpenVR with the Aero which should eliminate Steam’s overhead but it is not working correctly as it’s trying to use extra screens that are present in Varjo’s other headsets that have them. You might want to force DCS to run in SteamVR’s OpenVR mode for now by adding “—force_steam_vr” to the DCS.exe launch option, or better yet try OpenXR (which still needs the SteamVR launch option), plenty of how to discussions in the VR threads.

Global one.

I want to try to get to the bottom of this but not sure if I'll ever get there, as I'd rather be playing or doing things that make money.
-
I see great 3D effects now, canopy pop outs, buildings standing out from the ground, great depths in rolling hills and valleys, trees with more volume, nice and smooth parallax when flying around, etc. Maybe the people who didn't see the changes already have those effects by default.
-
Yep Don, because I saw better 3D effects that I'd never seen before. The problem is I cannot reverse it. So it could be that some of us had corrupted NVIDIA profile and for some reason clicking apply changes in NVInspector helped restore it to the original state, and this is the type of 3D we were meant to see in the first place. Now in medical term that's a diagnosis of exclusion, so I want to do more testings to exclude other factors first but so far it doesn't seem like geometry rendering has changed since I did the DDU wipe...but something definitely changed after I used the NVInspector back then. In any case, My VR is now looking better than ever and that's a great news since it did help me and you. MSFS looks even better than DCS, hate to say this lol.
