  1. You know you can take off from a carrier on the Persian Gulf map, fly to Afghanistan on that same map, and then load a new mission onto the Afghanistan map? You have the freedom to choose to do this or to not do it.
  2. I think most would rather have delays, even repeated delays as opposed to getting a bugged/broken update.
  3. Other games already have it so why is it such a huge technical challenge for DCS?
  4. It's a good thing I put a 4TB NvME drive in my computer because my DCS folder is 621G+ before adding in a 75G map. How much longer before I need to put a bigger drive in again?
  5. Let's not forget the battle that could have happened on the North German Plain in addition to the Fulda Gap in the event of a war between NATO and the Warsaw Pact.
  6. When I try to join MP most of the servers aren't loading and 3 from Caucuses map are currently the only ones in the list. I don't even have an option to select other maps and I own all but Kola.
  7. I guess I missed that.
  8. In fact, here's the download page for you. https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/downloads/world/
  9. I had this issue also and a restart of my computer fixed it.
  10. Or just download/install the DCS Beta version...
  11. Interesting. I just read the report and the F-4 didn't actually lose part of it's wing. The left wing was damaged but was more or less whole. We were briefed about this incident at one of our daily roll call and briefing formations and not only was the damaged wing incorrectly reported but the private aircraft was a twin engine, propeller driven aircraft and not a private jet. Although in the interest of fairness I must point out that they got the private part right. The guy giving us our briefing informed us that because of rumors flying around he was going to give us the skinny on the ANG scramble. Still a tragic incident.
  12. Nice!! That report says it was an F-4C and back then I probably couldn't have told you the difference between a C or a D. Other guys on the base said the Michigan ANG birds were D's so I took them at their word. The things you find out. So it is possible that a mistake was made. I was at SJ from September of 81 to August of 83.
  13. So you're a tool shedder?
  14. Correct. Either the 334th or the 336th had one F-4E with 3 red stars painted on the left vari-ramp and the words MiG Killer stenciled on the inside of the nose landing gear door. (I saw this with my own eyes.) I would hope that the Air Force made sure it actually had 3 kills and not 1 or two but you never know. *Edit* We had 4 F-4D's from the Michigan National Guard that sat 5 minute alert 24/7. Those were the only D's on the base. Incidentally, one of those D's collided with a private jet near the coast that was in restricted airspace. The private jet was lost and the D made it back albeit missing one wing up to the inboard pylon. (I forget which one.)
  15. The 336th had a bird that had 3 MiG kills and it had MiG Killer stenciled on the inside of the nose gear door. I think every squadron at SJ had a few MiG killers. *Edit* Might have been the 334th... after 40 years you don't remember so well.
  16. I walked that pavement day after day, night after night. Worked on every one of those Phantoms. Your third picture, they put up the lights while I was there. This one would be lovely. I watched it burn and then I got to watch it come back and land after being rebuilt.
  17. I think that's mainly my problem. I'm trying to BFM them when I need to be playing them like a fiddle. On top of that, I haven't flown air combat games on a regular basis in years so to say I'm a bit rusty is an understatement. Probably need a powered wire wheel to get this stuff off. Seeing how this game and it's flight model are far more complex than what I've played before I probably need to learn how to navigate and learn some basic flying ie... formation flying, joining formations mid-air refueling, etc...
  18. Did he work on munitions? Or was he a weapons loader? I loaded weapons at Seymour Johnson from Sept 81 to Aug 83.
  19. There was an entire squadron with no DMAS, the 337th. The 337th was part of Reagan's Rapid Deployment Force. We were tasked with being able to reconfigure all aircraft for cross country flight, pack up our tools, spare parts and maintenance personnel and be flying combat missions anywhere in the world in 72 hours or less.
  20. 3/4 of the jets at Seymour Johnson were DMAS also. I'm hoping for a livery or two from the 4th TFW.
  21. I seem to drift every time and need to correct.
  22. We used to call that a rope and you just needed to sucker your opponent into following you up. I was pretty good at making it seem like you had a chance. I had to know when it was ok to knife fight and when it wasn't. How far can I push my ITR trying to get a shot? It was an exhilarating way to fight and it never got old. In that game I flew the F4U-4 Corsair and if I can rope in the Phantom, well, I might have just found my ride.
  23. You won't learn how to fight players by fighting the AI, I think that one goes without saying. With the Sparrow there are certain things that I keep forgetting to do, like centering the radar before I try to lock a target directly in front of me. Little things that will come naturally with practice.
  24. It's important to know how to win in the Phantom whether it's against the AI or actual, real live, players.
  25. This is behavior indicative of malware. Personally, I don't take chances with "potential" or actual malware. If it was malware uploaded during an update they would certainly be responsible for it being on an end users computer.
