  1. Well, I guess I saw this thread back when it was originally posted, but had forgotten about it. Wow... that main hallway seems a little... spartan. Did ED hire any interior decorators yet? At least hang some scale models or missile replicas from the ceilings or something, geez! Then again, maybe the dungeon effect is deliberate... after all, from the photo, we can't tell if those office doors lock from the inside... or from the outside
  2. Hmm... maybe it would be time to make a "Hitler finds out the Third Reich has run out of cocaine" youtube vid. Haha, you could cut out the part where he tells everyone to leave the room and make it look like they left because he let rip a massive flatulence bomb. Intersperse some of his angriest rants with farts.
  3. Slmod beta 5.3 will not work in DCS: World, but don't worry: I already I have a version of the WIP Slmod version 6.0 that appears to be working 100% in DCS: World. Considering most folks are just screwing around in the P-51 right now and not making any kinds of missions where Slmod might be needed, I wasn't really busting my butt to try to release it. One possibility I may pursue is to release a "beta" version of the Slmod v6 this weekend, the primary goal of which would be just for people to report any bugs in pre-existing functions supported by Slmodbeta5.3. There have been some significant changes to the code base, and I need to make sure all the old stuff works. In the mean time, I can be applying some final changes, and writing the documentation for Slmodv6. Or I may just hold off and release Slmodv6 in a few weeks, and beta test it internally within the 1st VFW. Last major thing I need to do before I release anything is re-write the parallel tasking system under the new OO menu system. The options system has already been re-written, and appears to be working. It works pretty similar to how it works now, only "-sol" show commands (and the showing of the menu) and "-op" option selects are private- only the person who asked for the menu can see the chat message & the menu. There still is, of course, a "Speed selected option 2, "Spawn F-16 CAS" chat message that is sent to all players within the "scope" of that menu. I will probably make this privacy an optional setting. Besides just private messaging to-and-from menus, what is cool is that under the new OO menu system, it is super-easy to create new menus, destroy old menus, and create menus that are only accessible for a specific client, unit, or coalition. I could create specialized "host only" menus, for example. So it's going to be a super-useful system... assuming, that is, that ED doesn't introduce an actual Lua GUI menu system that works with clients :D
  4. Not sure air support is really necessary in Myanmar. They seem to be handling themselves...
  5. What about rearming and refueling? Is it fixed? Can you rearm and refuel from ships again?

    Trains

Haha, I love it! Some bugs are just funny. Now if we could just get some planes mixed into those trains and automobiles :D
  7. Interesting! So are you saying it could be something completely different? A completely different mission? If so, I can't wait to put this to good effect... well, actually, I DO have to wait to put this to good effect (too darned busy!). Even if it's single player only, it will still be awesome.
  8. Maybe Sel94 attempted a giant, My Little Ponies mega-skin for the IL-76, and the result was so ridiculous that the DCS AI engine became self-aware and deleted the files out of shame?
  9. Which perfectly explains training missions! I should have investigated more thoroughly. I wondered how they did the pre-scripted intro parts. You know (or perhaps don't) me... I thought they had done it with Lua. The one time I investigated how they got the pre-scripted intro sequences I was looking for some kind of embedded Lua or Lua file... kinda got a one-track mind in that respect. :D Anyway, thank you SO much Sabre!!! I'm not quite sure about the procedure, but I should be able to just unzip one of the training missions and fill in the gaps now that I have some idea of how it is done. I guess the question is: what happens in multiplayer? Nothing? Or could we create uber-cool intro sequences to our missions? What relation does the track have to have to the actual mission? I suppose the track and mission share the same game world, and the track just controls cockpit and views but is there anything else? Anyway, THANKS AGAIN!
  10. No, there are no quotes. I would highly recommend rebinding "open chat box" or whatever they've named that keystroke to the "tab" key.
  11. Nonsense! We've got plenty of ammo. Anyway, deleting the wingman will probably not cause any mission difficulties. Most likely, there are no triggers dependent on him.
  12. Well, considering how negatively DCS affects human and computer productivity, maybe Norton is right about this? :smilewink:
  13. I assume this what you're talking about? http://www.highinthesky.cz/hits/novinky/2009_06_02_01_files/2009_06_02_01_black-shark-pc-review.pdf
  14. Note that the commands should be "spawntask" and "getupdate", as set by Grimes, who made the mission. So just say "spawntask" in chat, NOT "/spawntask". Any chat message string that begins with a "/" character is intercepted by server.lua/Servman, which think you are trying to give a command. So strings that being with "/" should not be used as a slmod.chat_cmd anyway.
  15. Great post Grimes. I really like this one: This was desperately needed in Battle Commander back in the day when we were playing around with it in A-10C beta. It's good to see that ED implemented it, because if not, I was going to have to do it myself. Not new, it's been around since 1.1.1.0, I think. I've been using group message for some time now. These two are awesome features, for sure.
  16. Based off of the last Silent Hunter game, for once, I feel about the same pessimism you do. At the same time, I hold out hope that maybe they learned their lesson with SHV. When they say a dynamic campaign, it better truly be dynamic. The last two I played (SH3and SH4) had a campaign claimed to be dynamic, but it wasn't. Just a giant world with tons and tons of pre-scripted convoys and ships. It was nice to play around in, but in the end, your actions in the world meant nothing. No, if the Germans really start massacring merchant shipping, Britain needs to weaken, and if it continues, they need to surrender. Enough of this historical crap, you can't have a historical dynamic campaign, the two are mutually exclusive concepts.

  18. Personally, so far, I've found the flight model to be disappointing and unrealistic. For example, the aircraft doesn't stall and/or and go into a spin every time I pull an AoA of more than 10 degrees. Also unrealistic is the fact that the aircraft does not buck wildly like it's hanging from a bridge on a bungie cord in the middle of a magnitude 7 earth quake every time I squeeze the guns. ED, please fix the flight model so it's more like previous WWII games, otherwise, I will be in serious danger of finding a WWII aircraft sim that I actually enjoy flying enough to play on a regular basis  ;) ..... Does anyone remember Microsoft Combat Flight Simulator? OH MY GOD those were some BAD flight models. Remember how, if you tried to turn in the Spitfire or P-51, the aircraft would start turning, then stall once the AoA got about like 15 degrees, then start turning again once "normal airflow" was re-established, then stall again, then start turning again, with this process repeating about once a second? The process of making a turn was basically to pull back on the stick, then wait as the aircraft slowly oscillated/wiggled its way through the turn, with the "STALL" message flashing on and off at you. It was so bad that the Hurricane was vastly superior to the Spitfire.
  19. Ok. Yea, now I get it. I knew there was something wrong when I found this so easy. Crashing on my takeoff attempts now :) Edit: Got it on the third try!
  20. THAT'S IT! "Autorudder" was on. I didn't even know there was such an option... why is there even an "autorudder" in the first place? Anyway, I'll have to record a new video now, with "autorudder" off :(
  21. Actually.. it really wasn't very hard. I double-checked that game flight mode was disabled. Maybe some people's takeoff missions have wind or something that makes it more difficult?
  22. Probably because most people are fairly oblivious/reactionary. Most Americans hadn't even heard of Al Qaeda and OBL until Sept. 11, even though they had attacked us what- twice?- already, and we had even retaliated with cruise missiles. Hell, ABC(?) news had even gone to Afghanistan and done an interview with OBL in 199(8?). I remember seeing it on TV. He told the audience that he was going to kill a lot more Americans, and he already had a proven track record of doing so at that point, so there was no reason not to believe him. And yet, people remained completely oblivious to the danger. They were shocked that someone would fly a plane into a building, even though that was a widely-known wet dream of terrorists for many, many years before Sept. 11. Remember the guy who crashed his small plane into the White House in, what was it... '96? And there were other foiled plots before that. Yet, people were actually surprised that there were people like that out there, willing to do such things to us.
  23. Here ya go Viper, as requested: 7y7db7uddXg She flies quite awesomely :) Obviously, the landing speed in the P-51 is quite a bit lower than I originally thought :D Or else I just suck at it. Hey, but I got it on the ground in one piece, no damage (I think). The gun effects are awesome too. It actually looks like what you see in WWII gun camera footage, unlike IL-2 Suckovik. Why is my throttle beeping at me when I put it at low throttle?
  24. I don't spend my time looking for unannounced features, and when I do find them, I shouldn't say anything about them anyway. Too busy to really do any investigating for a while yet, anyway. All I've done so far is installed and run Slmod a few times and used it to do a global variable dump of all Lua environments. At first glance, (because global variable dumps total up to be like 300,000 lines, it takes a while to look through it all) there's definitely been a lot of new additions to the game's Lua code, more than in any patch I've ever seen before, but that's all I have time for right now.
  25. I'm rather disappointed. I accuse ED of false advertising. If it's "DCS: World", it should be the whole planet. :D Just joking, of course. I'm also excited on just getting my hands on some of the newer file versions... I'm seeing changes in files that haven't changed for a long time :)
