In the near term? No, probably not. However, I think it's almost a foregone conclusion that someone will turn their attentions in that direction as the DCS map lineup continues to expand.
-
I'm most interested in a Germany/Austria/Czech Republic map, but a playground encompassing the Agean Sea would be pretty badass too.
-
I can already smell the smoke from all the overtaxed GPUs. But, in all seriousness, the map itself is just the beginning. There are a lot of assets that would have to be made alongside it.

It's a little hard to make out, and with the O2 mask on you can't see the legendary mustache, but at the 00:40 mark of that teaser, I would swear the pilot's helmet says "Col. Olds". But I can't be sure. That'd be a lot of awesome in one place.

I love you.

Future of DCS complex modules, thoughts and opinions
Nexus-6 replied to Devil 505's topic in DCS Core Wish List
An F-100 would be great. So would a late war P-38. -
Heatblur has stated multiple times that an F-14D will not be developed in the foreseeable future, if ever, due to a lack of accurate and detailed information on the D 'Cat in certain areas.
-
I don't really know much about the F-1 since it was not operated outside of Japan, but I was always aware of its existence and what its mission was. But looking at it now, I mean really looking, it resembles a meld between the Mirage F1 and the SEPECAT Jaguar.

I too, have wanted an F-4 in DCS for a long time now, and am honestly baffled by the fact that ED didn't add one years ago. It's such an iconic part of military aviation that one would think it would have been a self-evident choice. As far as exactly which is on the way...Well, I'll be happy with whatever it turns out to be, but very disappointed if we're left with no expectations of more in the future. I would likewise hope that our pleas about the breadth of Phantom service reach the people who make these decisions. It seems to be a unanimous (or, at least, a popular) position.
-
Sure, you could use Vietnam as your dowsing rod, but someone else might consider the late 70s version to be definitive after it carved out a niche as a fighter-bomber. I guess what I was trying to say is that there's a lot of story to tell, and no matter who builds whatever version that's on the way, you really can't do the plane any justice without representing as much of its history as possible.
-
Yep. I'm absolutely spitballing here. It's all a theory at this point. The only information we have right now is a grainy picture of a gunsight.
-
The "high point" of the Phantom's career could be debated, depending on the opinions of the people involved, until the heat death of the universe. As of right now, there are currently no assets to support a naval variant (meaning a period correct carrier). I had originally thought that Heatblur's Forrestal would cover it, but the version they made is, as was previously pointed out, too recent to have seen F-4s on her deck. Whereas there are multiple maps that cover multiple nations in DCS that can accept an F-4E right now.
-
The fact that ED teased it at the end of their "20XX and Beyond" video makes me think it's not Heatblur who will create the first Phantom (assuming they're doing one at all and their progress is way farther along than we think), but rather Eagle Dynamics themselves since it was Belsimtek who were building an F-4E in the first place, and because an "E" model will slot in much more comfortably with the maps and potential scenarios we already have. Not to mention that it will be right at home facing off against our MiG-19&21, as well as the forthcoming Mirage F1, MiG-23 and (whenever it gets here) that MiG-17 Red Star Simulations is working on.
-
I'll even go so far as to say that our F-4 experience will not be complete UNTIL we get a carrier-capable version (and probably a Wild Weasel). But I understand why ED picked the 'E' model.
-
I have nothing against getting a naval variant, but I wouldn't hold my breath over this one. I can't see ED giving one of their modules a capability it didn't possess in real life.
-
A Southeast Asia map's awesomeness would be titanic in scale, no question about it. But you're talking about a lot of development work - from scratch - because none of the aircraft currently available (except maybe for RAZBAM's MiG-19) in DCS would be period correct. The Phantom that ED will deliver will probably be the same block that Belsimtek informed us about in 2017. That likely means a late 70s bird. Even the MiG-21 we have is the BIS variant, and was not flown by the VPAF that I'm aware of. And that's not counting all of the AI like tankers, ground units, Red Crown, etc.
-
I have a feeling that the F-4E won't be the end of the Phantom's lifespan in DCS. It may take a while (and 3rd party involvement), but there are enough people asking for a naval variant that we're bound to see it eventually.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JC-7wRmMH2g It's not my intention to steal this guy's thunder. I only wish to spread the word. I'm posting the link here as it's relevant to the F-14. If you're unfamiliar with the channel and are simultaneously curious, I urge you to sample it. He's good at explaining things to the layman.

How do you "balance" other modules with the Tomcat?
Nexus-6 replied to Jayhawk1971's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
The short answer is, "I don't". The F-14 is the sole reason I took notice of DCS, though that will change whenever an F-8 and/or F-4 are delivered. -
I really enjoyed this one. Their guest seemed like a pretty interesting guy.

The survey wasn't about the F-18, it was about the F-14, and there was no reason to post that other than to troll the OP. There is an abundance of room (and a lot of prior examples) on the forums for people to trade barbs over the DCS version of "my dad can beat up your dad". Furthermore, you must deal with some pretty emotionally fragile people if you believe that calling out snarky bullshit is the equivalent of being "triggered".
