Help again. I have watched and tried to follow several YT videos on setting up a mission. Having made up a train, set up some AAA and four 190's at another base, I set up four mustangs to go kill them. BUT. ME wants to start me at one of the AAA guns instead of the cockpit of the Mustang. What haven't I done?

Much obliged RangerUK....man that is a TOWER of work. These references are invaluable and look great printed in colour in the library.

Thanks RangerUK...thats the most comprehensive guide I've seen. Good work Chuck.

As close to a real Spit as it gets
Hornetjock replied to Reflected's topic in DCS: Spitfire L.F. Mk. IX
I got to look over the MKVIII at Temora in Australia and it was an overwhelming experience, although I have the photos. You just can't take it all in and I still have some "wish I had...". I agree wholeheartedly on the job ED has done. She is a joy once you tame her. -
Thanks for the offer 159 Archer, but I am not up to speed on the whole server thing yet

The manual is no real help and all the tutorials are on previous versions and mostly Caucasus - altho the functionality is the same with slightly different screens. I am waiting for a Normandy YT that is just a simple mission - take off with wingman, go shoot up or bomb a bunch of trucks and/or some FW's, come back and land. Everytime I set up the German field for the FW's my mission starts there with A 10's (!), instead of my field with Spits. Grrrrr.

Spitfire windshield masks the night visibility
Hornetjock replied to WildBillKelsoe's topic in DCS: Spitfire L.F. Mk. IX
Geeez...the Spit is hard enough. Why take a day fighter out at night? Harder to see the enemy. No - impossible! -
Thanks Art-J, yes I have clicked on it before (I have clicked everything!) but it did not register. We really need a YT in the contemporary version of a simple mission plan for Normandy with just four Spits out against four Germans with maybe some trucks in a field along the way for target practise. Anything out there now is a bit old.

Just deleted several attempted missions. Went to the manual hoping for a simple mission load. No help. All I want is four P 51's out of a field (Client) fly to a second field with 4 FW's and 6 trucks in between to shoot at. I've tried everything. HELP!

clipped wings effect flight model?
Hornetjock replied to DracoLlasa's topic in DCS: Spitfire L.F. Mk. IX
No roll trim - ailerons - on the Spit. Any tendency to fly "wing down" in level flight was corrected by a very rough but effective means : an aluminum or wooden hammer and a shaped wooden block where the trailing edge of the aileron was gently tapped up or down until the aircraft was in trim in level flight. -
Got it! Thanks.

Just downloaded the P 51 but I forget where to access the Flight Manual. Can you help please?

Lots of good discussion on the Spit. Having mastered flying her I am now enjoying the possibilities of Mission Editor. Never in my life did I believe I could be leading a flight of four out of a temporary airfield in France 1944 on a seek and destroy mission looking for trucks and 190's I had placed. At this rate, I should understand the possibilities of ME by next year! Thanks for the great work already done and looking forward to the updates.

Who has these "skins" and where can they be accessed?
-
Thanks ART-J you are a genius (you know this). Your suggestion gave me back the tools to change resolution and that fixed it. The hard work done by the developers will keep DCS my retirement hobby - even though I am no genius. Thanks mate.

Just out of curiosity I ran the recommended DCS repair cleanup/process. I still have the problem.
-
Glad you got it sorted. I Cant get to tools now to change anything! Just a stupid "letterbox" on the centre screen.
-
Me too. I am running the latest update with three screens. Trying to understand Mission Editor last log in. When opening today asked for login details (never happens) and presented with small screen on centre display (never happens). The first time I got "Options/Tools" and reset three screens instead of the defaulted one screen. Now presented with an even smaller "letterbox" which wont let me access options. NVidia checks out ok and screens otherwise operating normally.

Thanks for the explanation. I thought it was something connected to the throttle that brought your panel alive, and now I know what. Yes, I have heard of WEP - which in some WW2 aircraft was actually a fuse wire barrier which physically prevented the throttle movement until it was actually broken by the action of the throttle going forward. Maintenance had to check an engine when this wire was broken.
-
Sorry...And WEP is? Does the switch operate?

Thanks Frederf. Thats what you get for watching You Tube videos that were posted long ago. I think leave well enough alone.
