  1. I had a lot of confusion about binding a button to drop bombs. I got a tip to look at "Stick" in controls - never thought to look there. To make it simpler, could a heading "Weapons Release" be placed in General Controls please? This is in line with other aircraft in DCS and helps us find it more easily.
  2. Don't bother looking in the cockpit for wheels, except to check the settings. I mapped them (trim) to two-way buttons and just made sure the correct setting appeared when activated. Elevator, left side wall and rudder, two O'Clock in front of the Nav. Haven't worried about the ailerons.
  3. Yet to try it but I've been told to go to the Re-arm option in communications with ground crew...
  4. Good tip! Thanks mate, will try it...
  5. I see a switch that turns on the reflector gunsight, which also moves the pilot to a "centralised" position in the cockpit - the better to align him with the target. How did it work IRL? Did the pilot simply "lean" across? Seems very awkward in the most stressful moment of the mission. Must have made dogfighting a nightmare...Anyone know?
  6. I have never heard an idling Merlin sound this way. It is far too exaggerated and needs correcting in the first be-bug. It sounds more like small arms fire from Germans invading the airfield!
  7. I'll worry about screenshots when we get some proper squadron codes/serials to choose from...
  8. I simply assigned brakes to a button on the throttle. Put in L/R rudder and tap. Tap and hold for tighter turns. She responded perfectly from the first attempt. Much easier than the Spitfire - or, maybe the Spit was good training.
  9. In ED's new trailer, Nick ends saying "Fly safe..." Yeah, my sim room is pretty safe. No disrespect to Nick (we love his work) , but how about something like "The sky is yours. Take your dreams to new heights!" What's yours?
  10. The only thing I can suggest is to carefully go thru your control bindings on all your HOTAS to make sure there are no duplicates. I have found that even an update can trigger duplicates. You seem experienced though - with all those other aircraft, so you might have done this. The only other thing might be a "Repair" move, which might take out any mods that you have installed. Other than that - make a bug report to ED. Good luck...persevere - she is a beauty once you tame her.
  11. I used to love photography before I got hooked on DCS. Now I can combine both...This is the last hour before full dark. Best time for pics IMO.

  12. Thanks gents for the input. For Goodness sake....we're all in trouble - let's just put a bit more tolerance in the gear struts. Not rocket science....well, not quite!
  13. Interested to hear how you boys go landing it. I find the gear too brittle and bouncy. You have to be super gentle. Like I'm always holding my breath coming over the fence. I get about 50% right...
  14. I just re-read Eric Browns "Wings on my Sleeve" where he discusses the FW 190. "A vicious stall and difficult to land. Excellent roll response..." That is my experience in DCS. Strangely, Eric favoured a 190 over other available aircraft to get around German airfields looking for captured aircraft. When I sign into DCS I always start with an Anton landing. Toughest test there is in DCS IMO. I get it right about 50%.
  15. Thank you....saved. Don't know why "Downloads" doesn't show up on my main page....
  16. Downloads/User files/Skins. Used to be at the top of the main directory. Anyone know where it went?
  17. I have watched many of the YT vids out there from fellow simulator pilots on the DCS 2.7 update. Everyone is super hyped about the clouds adding to the immersion. Rightfully so – it is a “game-changer” as they say. I watched Philstyle and copped his tip on Warbird ascent into IFR through cloud. Get stabilised in the clear with the horizon under the clouds and go up, never taking your eyes off the VSI and AH. I broke out at 12,000 feet, above two layers of dense, fluffy cloud and cruised in my Spitfire. Then I saw a large hole with the gloriously sunlit fields of England below. I rolled her over, reduced the power and down we went, the walls of cloud ripping by close about us. I gently eased her out doing over 400 mph at around 2,000 feet. This is something I read that the greats such as Roland Beamont and Alex Henshaw had done in the day. I am so happy that I got the chance to do it at seventy years young in a simulator. Not much good at dogfighting, but I landed her in a three-pointer at Hawkinge and parked among the other Spits I had placed there, grinning like an idiot. Thanks to ED, Phil, CAP, Reflected, Growling Sidewinder, Skouras, Spudknocker and all the rest for your cinematics and tips. It's a great community – only getting stronger. If you made one – I have probably watched it!
  18. I find the Anton the same. 20 year-old pilots in the day would never have survived it. ED should just clone the Mustang gear modeling for all warbirds of the same weight range - excluding maybe the Spit and 109. With due care, you can land the Mustang almost anywhere.
  19. I was on a mission to the Caen rail yards - so I thought I'd take a look at Pegasus Bridge, made famous by British 6th Airborne Division leading up to D Day. I was looking at the book by Stephen E Ambrose of the same name and saw its image. As I flew by I couldn't believe the detail that ED has put into that small bridge. This is why DCS punches above it's weight. They get it right! Thanks also to Neil Barber of WW2TV and his excellent You tube vid fro the clip of the modern bridge...
  20. Ok...I'm a dummy. User Files section is where exactly? You would think it would be easier to find.
  21. Could find no reference to adding a few taxying aircraft to airfields to add interest. I know it can be done, as ED has them in its "Instant Action" scenarios. Love to add a couple to my missions to add sound and movement - not necessary for them to take off, just loop around the perimeter. Any ideas please?
  22. Great airfields in Channel Map, ED has tried to make them interesting but they are sterile - need placeable petrol bowsers, trolly accs, maintenance trucks, cranes, ladders etc. A few ground personnel would be great too. Soldiers standing around with guns just doesn't do it IMO.
  23. "...So the "damage factor" - or whatever you call it - of a shell should be fine tuned...." Thanks Reflected - glad ED has been made aware of this, good work. I think from a players perspective it's too damaging and above what history tells us. Even though Typhoons suffered such calamitous losses from ground fire, it was mostly due to heavily concentrated AAA around a target. If I put just three in, I am in trouble. When in doubt - watch how the AI tackles it!
  24. This is from Snowsniper and it's a beauty. Factory fresh Spitfire over the Channel map - what could be better? Contrast in finish is very evident when parked next to a default Spit. https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/3311758/
  25. Before the new sensitivity of the trims in the Spit, I used to use the actual trim wheels in the cockpit. Now I have them mapped to a HOTAS trim switch - up/down for elevator and left/right for rudder. You get used to the number of seconds it takes and your eyes are on other control settings. Removing the right rudder trim for takeoff is important for co-ordinated flight and can be done easily this way. It used to bug me but used to it now. The main one is pitch - I use very little rudder trim if any - I find the pedals accurate if you get the tail up. Still loving it!
