Flying from the Persian gulf to Caucasus
phantomknight321 replied to Vinny002's topic in DCS Core Wish List
You can actually do this? What does the terrain look like when you do this? It doesn’t just try to stop you from flying any further? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
Just tried this out a bit, this is exactly what I needed! Sometimes I can’t devote a ton of time to figuring out what I want to do, and I fly really late from time to time and can’t fly multiplayer otherwise I would disturb my sleeping family. Here’s my personal wish list: -custom load outs through the UI, with economics. Would be amazing to have to budget out weapon loadouts along with equipment, some things can be pretty expensive to carry in (litening pods, for example, cost 1.5 mil or so). -difficulty settings in the ui. Would be awesome to have an even harder mode, forcing you to have to purchase the cheaper aircraft and ordinance before moving up. I know stuff like this can be tweaked in the settings but having it in the UI would be really convenient -multi-role missions. I know this is on the list, but figured I would throw it in here. For example, the Mi-8 and Huey can do ground attack gunship roles, so missions with that in mind would be nice -ability to add modded aircraft. If this is already present, then disregard, but I was looking for a way to use the MB339 and could not figure it out. With the A4 coming it will be even more handy to have that feature That’s all I can think of for now, thanks for building this awesome application! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

There’s getting to be a dedicated group of people who are interested in nothing more than hating on Razbam. It’s almost as bad as the armchair engineers coming to destroy polychop any time they do literally anything, despite most people really liking the Gazelle. Some of these complaints in the OP are massive generalizations. The targeting pod is NOT broken. Not fully functional, but not broken, I use it all the time with great success. And they literally just posted an update on the INS system. It’s “technically” kind of working already, it’s just simplified and always aligned. This is changing soon, I already practice the procedure every time I fire up the Harrier so I will be ready. To Razbam, if you guys see this, don’t be discouraged. I know I can speak for myself and many other pilots I fly with that your doing great work in our eyes. I recognize your a small team, and that while I am anxious to see more updates come through I am happy to wait and enjoy the product be as great as it can be. If I could help in your development process (I can’t since I’m not a coder, just a software tester) I would, because I want to see you guys succeed. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Same for me, I would love to have a use for my yoke in DCS. And the sky master is one of my favorite GA aircraft, this thing would be awesome to have. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

APKWS II Oh of course they have the potential to be very effective weapons, hence the reason everyone is chomping at the bit for them, as it would make the Harrier more like the one man weapon of mass destruction like the A10c with its 6 Mavericks and dozens of rockets and bombs, but I am more interested in them from a mission design standpoint, as an APKWS load with bags can give the Harrier much better loiter time, as it has more ordinance and can still carry extra fuel now. I still think the APKWS shouldn’t be the “REASON” to get a Harrier though, and I won’t be any worse off if we don’t get them as it’s still a very effective A-G platform. I say if we are going to get them I would expect news on it in a few months...the harrier still needs other things worked on and APKWS may be on the backburner Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I wouldn’t expect to hear anything soon...there are 2 big questions to answer here: Is the APKWS going to be developed by ED or Razbam? If it’s developed by Razbam, how challenging is it to develop? They have made if clear that if they are to make their own APKWS it will totally depend on how hard it is to make. If it’s too hard we won’t be getting it. Considering it’s a relatively new weapon, especially to the Harrier, it’s wrong to treat it as a “must have” considering the harrier has flown without it for many many years and has lots of other great weapons. The only reason I can see many desiring the APKWS is to allow to carry more ordinance per sortie. But alas, an A10c or Su-25t it is not, and the APKWS will not make it any closer to those flying armories. Of course I personally would love to see APKWS implemented in the game, as many aircraft present do use it and it’s a very versatile weapon, but I am not expecting it to do any more than be a nice extra bonus Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Wishlist Item: TPOD to stay warmed up/FLIR available after rearm.
phantomknight321 replied to 0xDEADBEEF's topic in AV-8B N/A
I think the only catch here is that technically the harrier IRL can’t do hot rearm...but please correct me if I am wrong. I think the only things in DCS that should be able to hot rearm IRL are the helos and A10c. I’m not aware of any others that should be capable of this but welcome anyone to correct me on these points. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
This sums it up perfectly and is what I was trying to explain. It all depends on licensing...sure, Razbam may make an APKWS but if they do, can ED add it to their hog, from a licensing perspective? Maybe, maybe not, but probably not. Same goes for ANY other dev. As for Razbam stuff that can carry it, like the A29, it’s a different story and we can expect that to work out, barring license complications again (I mean, look at the laser Mav situation with the Warthog) This is of course all speculative and ED/Razbam can answer this much more accurately than I can. I can’t speak for them, but I think this falls into whatever agreement Razbam and ED get into. Then ED has to add them to that airframe, which they may or may not do. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Alright, so I’m thinking of other options here... They mentioned something about a Whale...A-3 Skywarrior maybe? It’s nicknamed “The Whale” https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Douglas_A-3_Skywarrior Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

*edited* disregard all i said before, there is something strange afoot! Whats up with these Whales?

Is anything further going to be done with this module?
phantomknight321 replied to the_soupdragon's topic in DCS: NS 430
Man if this could be added to all of the old school aircraft it would be amazing...at least the Huey, L39, TF-51d, and I can only dream of it working out for the F5e Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
Yup, while working things out in the harrier is challenging, if you set the autopilot (maybe even set up an orbit? I haven't tried this yet as I mostly just use the ARBS tbh) and then focus on target designation on the screen. Once you have everything dialed in take over, do your run, then return to orbit. Really though, what is best is if you either have someone buddy lase for you or have jtac lasing, because then you can just focus on acquiring the target, dropping your GBUs, then focusing on the next target. If you run a mission with multiple harriers in your flight you can even take turns designating targets. This is all super easy with JTAC though and is actually highly realistic, its not unreasonable to assume there is some sort of JTAC support on the ground during CAS operations

How far to "Feature Complete?" IMHO the Harrier is already very useable. In terms of features/updates here is what is missing that I consider critical to flying a decent mission in it: -INS simulation -Weapons updates (including JDAMS, maybe APKWS if they can make them, AGM65E, and advanced weapons deployment settings) -The ability to input waypoints in the aircraft -misc bug fixes and feature corrections That’s seriously it. You could chalk up sounds, but there is already a fantastic sound mod that fixes some of the placeholder sounds. Everything else the aircraft needs is more study simulation stuff that will make it more interesting, but not needed to enjoy flying it. *edit* don’t let the naysayers convince you, the mirage has hardly anything left to work on, there are just lots of people that want to bring razbam down for some reason when they are bringing amazing modules, easily one of the top tier devs alongside BST, Heatblur, Leatherneck before everyone decided they hate them all of a sudden, etc. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Has the sound changed aside from the volume? I believe up to this point it has just been a placeholder sound Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

This makes sense and is totally fair. In fact, FWIW there was an AMA with a Harrier pilot recently and he flat or said “The harrier is not used for SEAD” The SIDEARM is a neat weapon, but I feel like it can be treated literally as such: a self defense weapon against unexpected SAM threats. This is evident by the fact that it’s not extremely effective in eliminating SAM threats entirely. Now, I’m REALLY interested in getting even better CAS capability. Things like GBU-38s, maybe APKWS is we are lucky (ZEUS PLEASE) and those laser mavs...this thing will be a very nice CAS platform as the development matured. There are much better SEAD capable platforms out there (like the F/A 18c, for example...) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Well, to be fair that was where I got my source. It’s funny, because other sites have cited Wikipedia as a source on that one. I found one comment that was basically “it was rated to carry them but never did” or something like that. Either way, I think the best way to treat the harriers SEAD capability is as a self defense tool when attacking SAM defended regions, rather than an actual capability to do SEAD. Especially since the 122s are so hit or miss, literally Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Well, I do know that the Harrier II + afaik did indeed carry the bigger anti-radiation missles (HARMs and such) but i am not sure if the harrier ever harried harpoons in any configuration. Another thing you said there is "Multi-Role attack fighter". Just wanted to throw in that while the harrier is certainly more capable at air-air than many other attack aircraft, it is still very much outclassed by most fighters and I would not really consider "fighter" in its "multi-role" status. It is true that it is a multi-role though, I will agree.

I’ll second this on both fronts; I flew with my virtual squadron last night as well and tried setting different ears for different radios for the first time. I occasionally got some strange static from people transmitting, and occasionally the volume would spike to extreme levels (including DCS volume as well for some reason. I’m not sure if this is related at all to voicemeeter, or if it is due to the fact I had the speaker boost cranked all the way up but it was very jarring and painful to say the least

“Multipurpose Color Display” So yep, it’s got colors, I can only assume. Sample pictures of the map show it in full color as well. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

What does the new Changelog and update post mean?
phantomknight321 replied to imacken's topic in DCS 2.9
My only concern/question I am hoping ED elaborates on is how much longer the module sale has now. I am so close to pulling the trigger on the a10c, and if the price goes back up that goes out of the window. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
I actually finally saw this happen; I was practicing carrier landings and at one point looked behind me and saw the huge cloud of dust. Very strange bug to be sure Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I sure hope this aircraft gets pretty close to 100% simulated. I don’t have the extra spending money to buy lots of aircraft so having a couple of really nice, fully realized ones is what I’m hoping for Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
-
This actually ends up being a problem in VR, because no matter what you do you can’t peak under the goggles (being able to peak under would be realistic) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

So one solution would be to play with deferred shading turned off. This isn’t fully ideal, as the NVGs let you pretty much see everything in the cockpit clearly (not sure if that is accurate or not) However, aside from that night flying in 2.5 with DS turned off is a whole different world, is vastly improved for sure. For now I’ve just been leaving it off all the time until it’s been fixed Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
