  1. Thanks for contuning. :) This all about education as far as I'm concerned and as long as we keep things civil it is well worth it to keep going. Right... let the seeker lock onto a heat source and launch with no aircraft guidance... in scan mode or boresight. Now, if you knew there was an aircraft in front of you with hot afterburning engines and simply fired the missile(maddog)... would the seeker not lock onto that heat source after it left the rail? The way I see it, the seeker will lock onto the best heat source in it's FOV and if you were to maddog it at a head on target in a look up situation would it not see that heat source if there was nothing but sky and a fighter in it's FOV? The key words are lock onto the best heat source and IMO, a high speed jet, possibley with afterburners on, against the sky or ground would be the best heat source... which is what we see in the Lock On engagements. We know the seeker is always active once launched because it will lock on to flares or the sun so if there are no flares or no sun why wouldn't it lock onto a highspeed jet in it's FOV after a maddog launch? As for the comments about an IR missile locking onto the burning rocket motor of a missile directly in front of it... it happens in Lock On, as it should IMO.
  2. I agree that the rocket nozzle would cool rapidly at cold outside air temps but the missile won't be getting iced up because of the heat generated by the friction of the air hitting it at those speeds. AND... enough of the "whiner" comments everyone!!
  3. I'd like to see some proof of that statement... so, what you are saying is that an AIM-9 on the rail using the scan mode(no aircaft sensor lock) and acquiring a heat source(aircraft) is somehow different then an AIM-9 after it's launched? So, somehow the seeker stops working after it's launched and it couldn't pick up the heat signature of a fighter that's in it's FOV? To me that doesn't make sense which is why I have no problem believing that an IR missile can be launched maddog to search for a heat source to lock onto.
  4. Hehe.. I was only killed by one jet and the other was a SAM. I still try to fly with smarts but I'm never upset with getting shot down so I won't hide out in a SAM blanket all day and I won't go into a 3 vs 1 engagement knowingly. I was bold yesterday... hanging out near Maykop waiting for the bad guys to take off then I'd close in and suprise them while having to deal with the SAMs. I got 2 or 3 kills that way... and wacked once by a Tunguska. :)
  5. Realworld seeker specifics I have no idea on but, IMO, and IR missile seeker should be able to pick up the heat signature of an aircraft moving fast in cold outside temps(at altitude). The heat genertated by the friction of the air on the leading edge of the wing at crusie speed is enough to melt ice... add to that the engine heat(especially with burners on) and I can't see why an IR seeker can't lock onto anything hot it sees in it's FOV.
  6. You haven't experienced the AFM and avionics of the Su-25T?
  7. Exactly... firing an ET at 20 km("NP" at 7.5 km) vs a C-17 will result in an easy kill. Firing at 20 km vs an F-5E will result in a miss.
  8. Guys... after looking at this ET issue myself I see where the confusion is... The "NP" launch authorization(you all should be using the Russian HUD! :) ) for the R-27T/TE, and R-73 is not the definitive guidance range for the seeker as modeled in the sim. It is the optimal range... think of it as the RTR range so using launch overide and firing at it's HUD indicated R-MAX will still allow for guidance range but it won't have the energy to maneuver vs a defensive target. So, when you are sneeking up on the F-15C in the valleys with EOS and he has no clue, you can launch over ride and fire outside the "NP" range and still get a good kill if he/she doesn't know what's coming.
  9. I think the server statistics are part of that... people are too worried about their scores now... I love to get dirty and fight regardless of the outcome. :) That's also why I suck at online FPS games like Call of Duty... I run in guns blazing!
  10. I don't think Ubi Soft will publish another Eagle product so I doubt thats a worry. Ubi Soft isn't interested in flight sims anymore from what I gather... they have already dumped it.
  11. I wouldn't accept anything less then flying a Flanker so I won't be applying.
  12. Nicely done Rich!! Great to hear you being so loose. :) I wonder what impact having the mirrors on would have on the file size?
  13. Hi Inspector IguanaKing! I have a couple of thousand hours in the PC-12 and why would someone want an RVSM upgrade for it when the base of RVSM is FL290 and the service ceiling of the -12 is FL300? What are your thoughts on the UNS v802 with TAWS? We just got dual units in one of our Boeings, with TAWS to come later... it replaced a GNS-XLS so we're happy to have it!
  14. Yup... LOVE Rush! A buddy of mine flew RUSH around northern Ontario in a King Air 200 during the Test for Echo tour... has some great stories and memoribelia(sp?) from the trip.
  15. I fly for Canadian North Airlines... B-737-200 combi and gravel kitted. How about you?
  16. We don't have those goodies in our machines but we just got Universal FMS with TAWS coming in the near future installed into our old jets.
  17. TPC are Tactical Pilotage Charts... 1:500,000 with lots of ground detail.
  18. I have WACs and TPCs for the area but haven't got them on the wall since we moved.
  19. It will still show the RADALT tape but when you bank the altitude caret will move up the tape when it loses the radio signal and give incorrect altitude information. To check it just fly on the deck, 200 feet, and play with bank angles and see what the caret is doing. Were you flying over high terrain? you may have been at 5000 ASL but you might have been fying over high terrain that was less then 3000 feet below you and it was triggering the RADALT. If you were over high terrain and on the RADALT, steep banks will trigger the ASL reading. I have seen server missions with some low lying fog but I think a low overcast would be a lot of fun, especially when playing in the mountains.
  20. If you're banking 45 degrees at DH with 1600 RVR then you deserve to die! :) I have no idea if that's how the real Eagle system works.
  21. It reverts to a baro altimeter indication while in a bank until you roll back and the RADALT can indicate properly... this is the tape scrolling you see. I would think the emitter is on the fuselage.
  22. Below 3000 feet AGL the radar altimeter kicks in on the HUD and will not show a radar altitude when in a steep bank do to not being able to receive the radio wave reflections off the ground so it reverts to a baro altimeter indication until you roll back and the RADALT can indicate properly. I don't see a problem with the heading(tape/DG) doing a 90 degree change when you roll. If the TEWS threat is on your nose, when you roll, there is no strange behaviour but it does appear the more it is offset off your nose... either a bug or maybe the TEWS receivers have a problem when doing a fast roll of knowing where the signal is coming from. ILS needles work fine when approaching the fix at a proper intercept angle.
  23. :p Keep wishing and it may come true. :)
  24. I take the above as meaning that the pilot is not to exceed 700 km/h in a dive. You can't make the aircraft do it on it's own. :) This limitation, after combat experience, is probably due to high G loads on the airframe and the pilot during the pullout of the dive. I think the problem might come from the translation of a Russian book to English.
