  1. Thanks! Took a while to find proper components (GPU was the hardest part due to the limited space) and as I‘ve chosen a small case Lian li PC-Q38 it was very interesting. Starting point was a small PC for casual gaming in the living room on a 43“ TV screen and ended in an OC gaming machine with VR equipment for DCS in our guest room.
  2. Maybe the Oculus Quest would be an option as well after release of Oculus link in November? Has a mechanical IPD adjustment between 58-72 and 74 for should work pretty good. From a clarity point of view it's slightly better than a Vive pro with lens mod if you use current PC-connection workarounds like RiftCat. What I've heard so far from Oculus link the picture quality seems to be slightly above the Rift S but comfort might be an issue as the head strap is rather basic and the whole thing is a little bit front heavy. Can't say anything about the Valve Index as it's not available in my country but considering the Reverb, Vive pro or Quest (have all three myself), in your case, I'd go with the Quest after release of Oculus link and confirmation that it works in DCS as well. I've an IPD of 60 and total symmetric and from my experience with the Reverb (I'm on the lower end of the Range) I'm pretty sure you won't be happy as the sweet spot is really narrow and even I have to adjust the Headset quite properly to benefit from the clarity. Overall I really love the clarity and close to invisible SDE of the Reverb but the handling (tweaking around, Windows Mixed Reakity, SteamVR, ) isn't a great experience and comparing the Vive pro with the Quest, I'd go for the Quest (once link is working) instead of the high priced Vive. Not sure if this helps you in your decision but loving the Reverb for myself I don't think you'd do
  3. I'm using a Reverb myself and I'm not sure if you'd love it. Yes, clarity is really great (in my opinion) but it needs quite some power to enjoy it. My Vive pro was way more straight forward and performed a little bit better and the Reverb needed some tweaking but for me the clarity and minimized Screen Door Effect was worth the decrease in performance and tweaking
  4. I'm using a i7-8086K @stable 4.9 GHz (which is more or less a special version of the 8700K) and I'm very happy with it. Considered the 9900K as well but for me the additional power needed and temperature compared to the 8700K made my decision easy as I'm using a Mini ITX case and MoBo and therefor temperature matters.
  5. Ordered mine yesterday and delivery date for Switzerland is Sept. 2nd. Lets see, if that's true. Wasn't available till now or at least I couldn't find the right button in the HP store
  6. Hi Maverick Not sure if I'm too late but I had the same thoughts as you and ended up with a Mini ITX case from Lian Li pc-q38/ and had a few "issues" to think about but at the end it turned out to be working very well. Just space is very limited and I had some issues with the GPU (only 2 slots high possible) and although it told me that a 240 AiO fits without problem that does just apply to some specific models as height (radiator together with the fans) was an issue again. After starting with pure air cooling one year later I installed a water cooling to OC the CPU to 4.9GHz.
  7. Hi Mr Burns Was in the same situatiojn a year ago: building a new rig mainly for Anno 1800, Age of Empires, stuff like this and my flightsims (X-Plane 11 and DCS) and researched a lot about playing on a 49" TV vs. VR and as I had a 4K 55" Samsung tv in my living room I decided to first build a powerfull rig and then try the TV. Making a long story short: buying a TV for my PC (which isn't located in the living room) was canceled and bought a Vive pro. As I'm really a fan of sharp and crisp visuals and like things like shadows, etc. I was really concerned that I made a bad decision. First it was a little bit of a pain to get the thing configured and when it ran kind of smoothly I jumped into the hornet, was amazed by the immersion, applied full throttle, take off, couple of turns and ended up puking into a bag - or let's say it was close to it. What's my conclusion one year later? As westr stated: the immersion is incredible and after getting used to VR after a couple of flights motion sickness is not a topic anymore. Although I'm not getting this sharp and crisp graphics I get on my 34" ASUS screen (Ibought in the meanwhile on sale for 200 bucks) I'd never go back to a screen / TrackIR setup. Only thing I still disklike is the screen door effect - hope to get a HP reverb soon or waiting for the Vive Cosmos (hope that this one will be as clear as the HP seems to be. Therefor: even as a graphics junkie I'm fully pro VR
  8. Seems my Vive pro is more exotic than a Rift CV1 - don’t think I‘ll buy a new one this year
  9. For me the Flight Sound adapter worked perfect: https://flightsounds.com/products/fsx-solo-m-military There are single and dual versions, Military and civil. Shipping to Europe took three weeks.
  10. Sorry for posting here but tried to send a PM to GTFreeFlyer and it seems it didn't work as my browser crashed every time I tried to send one and my sent box is still empty. Apologize if they went through and I'm bombing you with PMs (4) and this post - wasn't my intention. Being a BuD located in the middle of Europe I'd be really happy to join your community, as it's a little bit odd just flyin on my own. Would be great to be part of a community where it's possible to discuss all kind of topics and support each other without having fixed slots where you must be online - just doesn't work for me. Main modules for the moment are the F-14 and Huey but love to fly the Spitfire as well (still have some "issues" when it comes to land) Looking Forward to hear from you if you still have some open positions within your group.
  11. YES!!! Just preordered a V.F.X grip together with the new Mongoose base, a 10cm extension and the desk mount to replace my Warthog stick. Have to say TransferWise worked perfect until now - let´s see if the money is with Virpil by tomorrow as promised and hopefully shipping will start soon as well!
  12. Thanks to Alec Delorean and Supmua Now it works with stable 45fps and looks amazing!!
  13. Oh wow! V2 to come!! Great news!! Got my RX Vipers about one month ago and have to second zhukovs statement about the pride of my flightsim equipment (next to my VR goggles). Communication and payment process worked like a charm and you don‘t have to pay month in advance. Just pay when they are ready to be shipped. And that was the only small disapointment but not Slaws fault: mine were stuck two weeks at the border waiting for ??? and so shipping was 3.5 weeks. But as stated above: nothing that could have be done better by Slawdevice. Can fully recommend the Slawdevice rudder pedals when you are looking for custom made high quality flightsim gear instead of mass production plastic stuff. I don‘t think that Slawdevice is making big profit out of selling these pedals. Hope that the V2 become a big success! Love high quality products from enthusiastic people! All the best for Viper V2 from Switzerland!
  14. Had the Thrustmaster TFRP, Saitek and CH pro pedals. My Saitek didn‘t last long (were broken after one year), gave the Thrustmaster to a friend after a couple of month (didn‘t like the feeling although they were quite OK) and used the CH pro for many years without big problems but sound and overall feeling compared to the real ones were a big compromise. Beginning of this year I invested quite some time in what to buy as „next gen pedals“ and in the finals I decided to go with the Slawdevice RX Viper instead of the Thrustmaster TRP pedals. After one month of flying with the Slaws I have to say it was the best investment for flightsimulation I‘ve made (next to my Vive pro). They are just great and together with the optional damper a masterpiece of engineering! Love them. So if you can afford it and have time to wait for approx. 3 month, I‘d go with Slaws! But overall it‘s always a matter of taste and what‘s great for me can be just average for someone else.
  15. Being rather new to VR I‘m still struggeling with the performance of my Vive pro and a little bit lost in this 147 pages thread. I‘m sorry for asking again what is answered in this thread already but can anyone share his settings in Steam and DCS with me? Would be happy to see some screenshots as well as I‘m a little bit lost specially with the steam settings. Thank you very much in advance!!!
  16. That wasn‘t an issue for me but the overall comfort isn‘t as good as with my Vive pro as the Quest has these straps and is a little bit front heavy. Have read about someone who compensated that by installing a powerbank on the back of the head and used this one to extend the batterie time. Using the USB cable to connect the Quest with the PC to avoid running out of batterie compensated the advantage of having no cable compared to the Rift S. Have tried this aswell but didn‘t like it. Only pro on this one: using a cable in Riftcat eliminates the downsides of needing a good WLAN as Riftcat can use the USB connection for streaming as well. Another point regarding the USB cable: I was not able to get the Quest connected with the included USB-C cable to my PC. Had to buy a normal USB-C (one end) / USB-A (other end) cable and then it worked like a charm. Don‘t know why. Maybe my USB-C port on my PC didn‘t work properly. Regarding first Quest setup: you need an iPhone / iPad with iOS 10 or later or any Android device with version 6.0 or higher. It‘s just needed to connect the Quest with your Oculus account so it would be even possible to borrow a device from a friend for the setup as you won‘t need it afterwards again (was at least communicated this way by my dealer). But as stated before: the Quest is for sure not the best solution for DCS. for regular use and longer sessions I‘d recommend other VR headsets but for having occasional flights and getting into VR the Quest does really a good job - that‘s at least my point of view for the moment.
  17. Have installed ALVR Alpha 2.4.0-alpha4 sucessfully on my Quest and it works very stable. To install ALVR go to Github ALVR and follow the instructions under „installation“. To install the ALVR client on the Quest you have to activate the developer mode in your Oculus app following the instructions here: Oculus developer mode The installation version with the code didn‘t work for me but I downloaded the apk and installed it with an apkeditor (I‘ve used this one: APK Editor) and installed the apk downloaded from the ALVR site. After installation fire up the ALVR server on the PC and in the quest go to your library to „unknown sources“ and start the client. I had to open the UDP port mentioned in the server app on the PC on my ASUS router, clicked „start“ and steam VR started. After that I fired up DCS and everything worked perfect. Had good frames (better than with my Vive pro) but the text is a little better readable with my Vive pro. Overall I was very happy with the quality and getting rid of the cable is a huge plus for me. From a quality perspective it‘s hard to quantify. For me the Quest is really close to my Vive pro with lens mod but that might be just my first impression after 1 hour using the quest with DCS. With ALVR and my ASUS GT-AX11000 router with 5GHz WLAN I had no issues using the Quest with DCS and the Tomcat so far. Just keep in mind, it was a short one hour test, battery capacity of the Quest after this test (started with 100%) was 53% at the end. Compared to Riftcat I have to say that currently ALVR alpha 2.4.0-alpha4 works way better for me. In Riftcat I had framerate and quality issues, in ALVR not at all. Conclusion: To get a first impression how DCS looks like in VR and if you have a Quest or want to have a portable device anyway that‘s for sure a good way to give VR a try. I have no comparison to the Pimax, Oculus Rift S or the new upcoming devices but compared to the Vive pro it‘s really close to my Vive. From a comfort side I prefer my Vive and due to the limited time of the battery I think the Quest won‘t stay your primary VR headset for a long time. It could be the perfect solution for some people as for me the quality is very close to my Vive pro but if you think about flying longer missions than two hours you‘ll have to find a solution for the battery capacity. Hope that helps a little in deciding if you‘d like to give the Quest a chance
  18. First feedback: Quest and DCS work with Riftcat but from a quality / frame rate perspective I‘ll have to do some homework as I‘m having some issues with my Vive pro as well with the quest. My framerates are way too low. Regarding visual quality: I‘d say it‘s close to my Vive pro with lens mod but due to my framerate issues I can‘t give a useful recommendation at the moment. It looks like it could work quite well but I‘m not sure if there will be a problem when flying online as it seems that my 5GHz router is well utilized by the Quest already. Will give you an update when I had time to do some tweaking / optimizing
  19. Mine arrived last week and they‘re awesome!!! Great engineering, working like a charm! Best rudder pedals I had so far. Really enjoyuing them and for sure worth waiting the two month! Ordering and payment via bank transfer (Paypal would have been possible as well) worked perfect, instructions for damper installation and instructions for installing the pedals were provided by email and easy to understand so five stars out of five for Slawdevice!!!
  20. My Quest received yesterday and had a short look into Riftcat today. Will try to install Riftcat to my Quest later today and can give you a short impression afterwards. As I'm a VR noob, I'm struggeling with my settings for the Vive Pro currently so if it works, any perfromance statements might be related to my very basic Knowledge of VR. But let's see if it works at all. Battery lifetime was about 2.5 hours yesterday for Quest stuff, Quality watching a test movie was close to Vive pro with lens mod. Right now I'm happy with my Quest for casual gaming, let's see if it works witn DCS as well.
  21. Just a short notice on this one: I've ordered my Slaws beginning of March and was told that the delivery time is around two months at the moment. So should be May for me. Ordered means: I wrote an email and got a response that I'm on the waiting list. I didn't have to pay anything until now and will be informed once the pedals are ready for shipping. Then I'll have to pay via bank Transfer or PayPal (+5% PayPal fee). Just as a side note that you don't have to pay in advance for several months and if you don't feel comfortable with wiring money to an offshore bank you now have the possibility to pay via PayPal.
  22. Hi again Thanks again for all the inputs and finally I was able to get a brand new HTC Vive pro starter kit (yes, the one with the V1 trackers) for 700 bucks which seemed to be a good deal. Next to this I ordered the lens mod as well. I was a little bit worried about reducing the video quality settings as I really enjoy flying in pretty environment but the immersion of using VR instead of TrackIR and a flat monitor is unbelievable. Was never thinking it would be THAT good! Will never go back! So thanks again and will bother this part of the forum with dumb newbie Questions soon!
  23. Thank you all foryour input! That‘s very helpfull. Seems it´s not that easy and I‘ll have a deeper look into this topic. VR is mainly for DCS as my main Focus is on flightsim, especially DCS, a little bit X-Plane 11. Overall it seems that the „normal“ Vive is a good compromise and starting point. I have read much about the screen dooreffect and got the impression the new Pimax series could be a good alternative to the vive pro. Having a look at my system spec I have the impression that the Pimax 8k won‘t be working properly in DCS for me. Will have a deeper look into your alternatives. Thank youvery much again!
  24. Hi all As I’ve always been thinking of getting into VR I have an opportunity to get a new Vive package (Vive + 2 controller + 2 base stations) for 500 bucks. Seems a reasonable price for me but I‘m not sure if I should go with the Vive or rather spending a little bit more money for a Pmax 5? I know that there is no correct answer to the question but I‘d be happy if you could share your thoughts with me as I‘m a little bit lost. Or any other suggestion instead of Vive or Pimax?
  25. Thank you for posting! Great stuff! The Greyhound story was great reading as well. Although it won‘t happen would be great to have a Greyhound or Hawkeye in DCS as well.
