  1. Well, there is always wider instead of higher...
  2. Hmmm... perhaps the rotor wash should be blowing the flames down then... ;) Actually, swept up and back (diagonal) would probably look great, but so do the efforts already posted.
  3. I'm more inclined to trust ED's/TFC's business judgement on that. First off, software companies do not usually make money from "patches". In spite of that, they have indicated that one may be released, along with stating what they envision happening in the Lock On community: Second, people using FF5 (or whatever sim) and DCS is not a mutually exclusive proposition. It doesn't take a lot of searching in these forums to see that many people are running multiple sims. As such, some people "moving on" to FF5 (or whatever sim) doesn't translate to an equal number of people being lost from the Lock On, or DCS community. Third, do you know how much of their revenue stream comes from miltary contracts compared to game sales? I don't, and I doubt that you do either. I suspect the military contracts represent a substantial portion of their revenues though, as it would make sense in light of the decisions that we are seeing. There is an enlightening thread related to the business of making flight simulator software: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=38451 Various posts in these forums have shown that a number of people involved with the project have first hand knowledge of events around Falcon 4.0 and other sims... Since they appear to be intelligent people, I conclude that their experience and reasoning is likely to lead them to make better decisions based in part upon the "inside" knowledge that they have. After all, we don't know all the details of what they are dealing with. As for the 'what have you done for me lately scenario'... well, they just rolled out the best combat flight study sim to date. Yes, it is a rotary wing aircraft this time. The next one will be a fixed wing, somewhere around 9 months after the DVD box sets go out. Does anyone really think that there will be a dearth of customers for DCS: A10C when it comes out?
  4. I haven't done any multiplayer in BS yet, but what you describe sounds like classic lag. I used to see corrections of a similar sort in MechWarrior in online multiplayer games. We'd see other mechs "moonwalked" backwards, etc. Basically, that is symptomatic of your client and the server getting a bit out of sync, and the change reflecting the updated/corrected position according to the server. It's typically a communications issue (although it could be a server problem, or a client problem). What connection type/speed are you playing over? What connection settings do you have in BS? Is it happening on more than one server (ie. servers hosted in other locations)?
  5. And does it support horizontal and/or vertical display spanning (ala WinXP)?
  6. This thread might provide some insight: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=38509&highlight=Autopilot Also, since you asked. There is an "autopilot disengage" button on the cyclic of the real Ka-50 with the corresponding command of LALT + A in the game.
  7. Tried to "rep" you AOS, but I already did recently, so I can't right now. BTW, speaking of rep, I wonder if mine is working right. My control panel shows that six people have given me positive reps (and another one shows as grey), however my rep displays as 1. Am I missing something?
  8. Oh yesssss.... (reaches for the tissues). That ROCKS! Thanks!
  9. I'm planning to get a Saitek R660 for that. It may not be so much a matter of dismantling the wheel as a matter of adding hardware on to it to facilitate the linkage to the pedal mechanism. Depending on how things get oriented, etc., it may not be necessary to remove portions of the wheel. I've got other projects that I want to do first, so that one may be quite a while before I get to it.
  10. Minor correction, most likely a typo, as the letters are adjacent. Vernoulli should be Bernoulli. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daniel_Bernoulli Nice, informative post! Good luck on the O&P. :book:
  11. I hear you EN. However, I bought a FFB stick specifically to get the trim function on the cyclic. I already had a Saitek X-52, but that is not how I want to control the sim. I also plan to cobble up a FFB set of pedals later on.
  12. Based on post #4, and mine, I'd say no, not completely. But bumfire brought him up to speed on the work-arounds (which I was already using).
  13. A common complaint, to be sure. However, I don't see any basis for folks to be expecting the cyclic (when trimmed) to be as stiff as what the Evo Force is capable of. Refer to: http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=641323&postcount=9 It would be nice to have some additional adjustability to make the trimmed cyclic provide the resistance desired by the sim pilot. But what we have available now ( Using the settings in http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=613286&postcount=31 ) may actually be a good approximation of how it feels in the real Ka-50.
  14. sohei: http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=592565&postcount=13

  16. Ayup... that one (DCS.exe...) among others, sucked me in too. As you say, it isn't that big of a deal. It would be nice though...
  17. I agree with rapid. Nice explanation!
  18. Clearly it's relative! Well, that's my theory, any ways... :smartass:
  19. Ayup... icebergs scored some hits too... sneaky bastages. At least that is one indignity (collision) that my ol' boat managed to avoid. Well... it's not like we are their friends or anything,...:dontgetit:
  20. What would be nice is in addition to the above, if there was a way for the "New Posts" button at the top to yield only the posts from the preferred language side (ie. Only the new english side posts, or only the new russian side posts). I imagine they would either need to split the button into two buttons, or have an option in a user's preferences that would be incorporated into a filter. Just a suggestion, as I'm really quite happy here already. Really, I am! :smilewink:
  21. Well, they are new to Thrustmaster... :smartass:
  22. I haven't done it yet, but my plan is to buy a Saitek R660 (Force Feedback steering wheel), and mechanically connect it it to some old analog Thrustmaster RCS pedals that I have. I'll have to figure out the proper ratio to "gear it down" and then devise whatever method looks best/easiest to me. It might be gears, it might be pulleys and a belt, or ??? . I believe that particular steering wheel has 270 degrees of full travel, whereas the pedals are obviously a lot less. Once it is mechanically rigged up, just use the steering wheel axis as the rudder control axis input. The old analog potentiometer would not be used at all. I don't know that the Saitek R660 is the best choice, but since I'm already using Saitek controls, it fits into my software setup.
  23. Interesting. On the Saitek X52, what do you think is causing the stickyness? (The gimbals or the centering spring mechanism?). The X & Y axis use Hall Effect sensors, so they shouldn't be an issue. BTW, Pilotasso had a DIY mod involving the magnets that reportedly made it more precise. http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=21199&highlight=X52+magnet+mod I haven't tried it on mine yet, but then I'm looking at grafting the X52 handle on to a Saitek Cyborg Evo Force base anyways, to get FFB trim. ---------------------------------------------- Back on topic... I don't own either CH or the TM Cougar. As an interested observer, it does seem like a higher percentage of CH Products users (at least in the hard core user communities) are happy with the products as they come out of the box. There also appears to be less issues for them in the long run regarding potentiometers and gimbals. On the flip side, the slider-type throttle is a downer for some folks. Hand size may also be an issue... as I understand it the CH Products favor larger hands as compared to the TM Cougar.
  24. Well, some AC-130 variants could be fun... But as you say, whatever ED makes... I'm sure it will be a well thought out decision, and well executed. :)
  25. Some of us using the stick are reasonably satisfied with the results, once the proper adjustments/adaptation are made. You might want to check out this thread (which also drills down to other threads, too): http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=38463 The following gets good results for me and some others: - Default spring = 0% - Spring gain = 38% - Other options at 100% with the spring manually disabled (garbage twist ties are a good means to do that on a temporary basis). ------------------------------------------- Hajduk, what is the "very important feature" that is lost by disabling the centering spring? (Keep in mind, that I'm not talking about permanently removing the spring) In the sim, if the FFB stick is holding trim, the need for a spring return to center is eliminated as far as I can see. I could be wrong about that, and I'm open to correction if a suitable (and convincing) example is provided. Using a temporary means to disable the spring for the sim will allow you to restore the centering spring for other applications where you might want/need it. Someone, (I forget who at the moment) even drilled tiny holes in the joystick's mounting shaft to allow a small pin, or paperclip to be used to pin the centering spring mechanism up away from the base. A very clean way to facilitate switching between the centering spring being disabled/enabled! (Be careful of the switch wires inside the shaft!) JimMack, I see you are on the ED Testers Team. I'm glad you're looking into this. As you can see here, and elsewhere in the forums, it is very much a mixed bag. I hope you will give it a shot, and provide useful input to ED on what you experience. As I posted elsewhere, it may be that what we (at least some of us) are currently able to get out of the stick, (once it is configured as described) may be close to what the actual BS stick does, and/or what ED intended. However, it can be seen throughout various threads that many folks want something beyond what we are getting in stick response. If that is something that ED can accomodate in the software (config screens, or lua file edits, or ???) either now, or soon... that would be very much appreciated.
