Any experience with Samsung Odyssey Plus & DCS yet?
Bun replied to fargo007's topic in Virtual Reality
When I first built this system I looked at overclocking and got the CPU all the way to a blazing 4.5 Ghz and decided it wasn't worth it. Computer is 15 months old and runs DCS well on my Asus monitor. VR will have to wait until the next computer build - September 2020. Stuck in prettyland - the headsets look goofy anyway. Still, we've come a long way from my original Apple 2, 1 Mhz 6502 CPU, 48 k RAM and I was in Heaven when I added the 5.25" floppy drive. :megalol: Come on ED optimization... -

Thanks for the information - I appreciate the effort. My greatest worry about HMD is to see a star shaped group of fuel trucks that turn out to be S-300. I'm still at the setting expectations stage before getting the spending juices flowing. Right now I'm running a 1080p monitor at 60fps with beautiful settings - easiest thing is to stay in prettyland and not think about VR so much. :pilotfly: -

I'm thinking of getting the O+ Does anybody run a similar system with anything above potato settings? Maybe after ED optimizes DCSW... GTX1070 1Tb Samsung SSD 32 Gb DDR 3200 ram I7 7700 4.2 Ghz that is water cooled I'm retired so upgrades are pretty much off the table. She Who Must Be Obeyed watches the spending closely. :smilewink: -
Worst game performance after last OB update?
Bun replied to DeathAngel1's topic in Game Performance Bugs
Just tested 2.5.3.24984 nothing seems to have changed PG Mach 1 300 feet over commuter line in Dubai locked solid at 60 fps I7-7700 4.2 GTX1070 32 Gb ram 1080p -
Here is what I do for a visual reference - turn sight to Man and while flying level depress it until the pipper sits on the horizon with the jet is trimmed out. If you're at 300 knots it should be around 18 mils down. Then keep the pipper on the horizon and do a gentle turn. This is great for flying long distances at a constant speed without gaining or losing altitude - it keeps your eyes where they belong rather than staring at your crotch and altimeter. This doesn't work for a break turn because you're slowing down and pitching up so everything is changing constantly. I have eyes away from the instruments during a break turn because I'm near an airport and other traffic. For that I use the AOA Index...

What you're missing is any feedback that the Spit would give you if you really flew it. Just a limitation of the sim... Keep the ball centered as well as you can - especially when landing. I have brakes on a slider to make taxiing and landing a breeze - just a touch not a lot.

Correct as is - the answer is in your question. If it bothers you leave it caged or cover it with electrical tape. Old Tappet Brothers joke... :)

Thanks for the info... Still a year out from shopping and the video card market will change by then. Scalpers weren't a thing the last time I built a computer.

Washington state, about 100 miles from anywhere... Was looking at Asus Rog Strix $1390 + tax = $1487 on Newegg I can get it down to $964 + tax if I go Gigabyte - not a fan though Asus or EVGA would be ok Figure I'll pick it up end of 2019 after a couple of real world things - wood chipper and a stump grinder Retirement is nice but it does put you on a budget

My God, I'm turning into Polonius See thou character. Give thy thoughts no tongue, Nor any unproportioned thought his act. Be thou familiar, but by no means vulgar. Those friends thou hast, and their adoption tried, Grapple them to thy soul with hoops of steel; But do not dull thy palm with entertainment Of each new-hatch'd, unfledged comrade. Beware Of entrance to a quarrel, but being in, Bear't that the opposed may beware of thee. Give every man thy ear, but few thy voice; Take each man's censure, but reserve thy judgment. Costly thy habit as thy purse can buy, But not express'd in fancy; rich, not gaudy; For the apparel oft proclaims the man, And they in France of the best rank and station Are of a most select and generous chief in that. Neither a borrower nor a lender be; For loan oft loses both itself and friend, And borrowing dulls the edge of husbandry. This above all: to thine ownself be true, And it must follow, as the night the day, Thou canst not then be false to any man. Farewell: my blessing season this in thee!

Thanks for the feedback guys. Please consider my misapprehension about 1070 and VR corrected. The Dubai commuter line test is how I judge graphics settings. If fps drops below 60 the click gets unclicked. Back to the OP... You want a system that will maintain a framerate that matches your display - in my case 60Hz. When it drops too low or pauses or crashes that's less than optimal. An SSD is almost a requirement - hard disks are just too slow and they have the problem of being kept busy by the OS. My DCSW folder size is 134Gb but allow as much free space as you can afford. People here like to argue about SATA vs NVMe - either is orders of magnitude faster than HD. Don't know what your budget is but get the best video card you can afford. We are in competition with bitcoin miners for video cards and they buy all the good ones. Another controversy is the whether you need 16 or 32Gb of ram - I'll leave that discussion to the folks that like to argue. There was a problem with PG and ram usage back in August (now fixed) that I solved by getting 32Gb - 16Gb is ok now unless you like insane SP missions or really busy MP missions. You can add more ram later if you see problems - just leave some slots open. Spend a while reading this forum before buying anything - it will save you money in the long run.

Cool... If you have PG map could you make a fast low run over the commuter rail in downtown Dubai between the buildings and let me know what fps you're getting? I'm interested in VR but retirement has put a permanent strain on my computer budget. Maybe if I skipped medicinal bourbon for a while I could get Oculus Rift instead. :D

Start by thinking about what kind of display you want. 1080p is the lowest priced computer build 4k is in the middle VR needs a computer that will leave burn marks in your checking account Here is my system 1080p monitor GTX1070 1Tb Samsung SSD 32 Gb DDR 3200 ram I7 7700 4.2 Ghz cpu that is water cooled Computer doesn't break into a sweat running my SP missions locked at 60 fps but would NOT run VR very well at all.

Never mind... I just ran some tests with LSA on and off and it doesn't make any difference. I've been flying a long time with LSA off and remembered the pipper higher with it on. Should have run the tests before posting.

Joker, have you tried turning off Landing Seat Adjustment?

Beautiful plane the F86 Speed brakes out until you're below 200 knots Drop gear and flaps Trim up until the light comes on Adjust throttle for 150 knots during glide slope - adjust throttle constantly When you're just above the runway level out Throttle to idle and let it settle Keep speed brakes out during whole landing Aerobrake with dash level with horizon Lands much like the L39 as long as you hit the numbers Easy Peasy Lemon Squeezy

Mark, Have you picked up rudder pedals yet? I have an old Saitek Pro Flight Combat set I'll send you. If you're interested PM me your address and I'll get them in the mail. I used them until I got the Crosswinds - no comparison. Leon

Like everything else free advice is worth what you pay for it. :) The stutters weren't bad over the Caucasus but very noticeable when I would glance 9 o'clock at a populated area - the system crashes over Dubai were bothersome. Also I like to turn the graphics settings all the way up to 11 - maybe that was part of my histrionics on the issue. :D
-
The 1070 will be fine with everything maxxed out but I would get 32 Gb of ram. I have I7-7700 at stock speeds with 32 Gb 3200 ram and a 1080p monitor. With VSync turned on I get a smooth 60 fps down low over Dubai which is where I test settings. VSync turned off gives me 100 fps with other settings the same. With 16 Gb of ram DCS would crash to desktop over Dubai and stutter in the Caucasus. Enjoy your new system.

Mark, I'm out in the middle of nowhere surrounded by farms. I have satellite internet through Viasat. Bandwidth is capped at 25 Gb/month with a free period from midnight to 5am so all downloads are done then. It works for single player but not for online. Too much lag to fly online... Don't know about VPN but I don't see why it wouldn't work. VR needs an exceptional computer to work well. I have I7-7700, 1070, Samsung 1Tb SSD, Thrustmaster Warthog, TrackIR5, Crosswind pedals, with 32Gb 3200 mHz ram which is excellent for a 1080p monitor but the bottom of the line for VR. If you build a new system don't consider less than 32Gb. It just leads to heartache and frustration. Dcs World comes with a free TF-51 which will give you a chance to test the performance of your computer before you sink a bunch of money into flight gear. Get Chuck's guides for any planes you're interested in.

is 3200mhz RAM that much better than 2666mhz?

Building computers for flight sims is like walking into a house of ill repute and yelling "Take my money take my money" :megalol: -
So you did the RAlt+Home and RShift+Home and the throttle doesn't move off the stop ???
