Hi guys, Bit of a strange one this...I run DCS locked at 60FPS and it’s glass smooth but sometimes it switches from 60 to 50fps randomly, stays like it for a couple of minutes and then it locks back to 60. This happens on both NTTR and PG but not on Caucasus. It also does it with the Hornet, Mirage 2000 and the AV8B. No idea what’s causing it but it happens every now and then and even on a free flight mission. Odd....

FPS limiters and Track-IR performance
30mikemike replied to bandit648's topic in Game Performance Bugs
Sorry yes, Inspector, not Control Panel. There’s so many different options and what works for one might not for another but I thought I’d share my setup. See if it works for you mate... -
FPS limiters and Track-IR performance
30mikemike replied to bandit648's topic in Game Performance Bugs
I’ve been using this method for months.... 144hz monitor but set it at 120hz through Windows. In NVCP set the frame rate to lock at 60. Set Vsync in NVCP at 1/2 refresh rate. (To match the monitor) This gives me glass smooth Tracking with TrackIR. The frames don’t drop below 60 no matter where I fly. -
2.5.4 Low FPS then sudden improvement

+1 Although strangely this doesn’t happen in the Hornet. It does with the Mirage and Harrier though on PG & NTTR...although strangely not on Caucasus. Weird... -
Hi guys... I’m currently using my old trusty Turtle Beach X41’s and to be fair they’re still pretty good.....I think! Because they’re 7/8 years old I’m beginning to think I ought to replace them but I’m having an issue on deciding which ones.... I’ve narrowed it down to the Steel Series Arctis 7 wireless but the thing that is putting me off is if the Trackclip Pro for TrackIR will fit! It fits perfectly on the TB ones that I currently have. Any recommendations guys? Thanks...

Cheers pal, I thought it might’ve been. Thanks...

Anyone else missing the LEX vapes on the F-18 with this update??
-
Sounds good, I’m yet to do the update but I will tomorrow. You managed to run full MSAA and SSAA too?
-
Yeah there is, I agree. Just running 1920x1080 on an Acer 144hz monitor..:
-
Interesting indeed. I’ve not done the update yet but I will tomorrow. I’m running MSAA x2 and SSAA x2 and have a locked 60fps in every scenario I can throw at it. When I try to run 4x MSAA along with 2x SSAA the frames drop sometimes to 55 ish. I’d like to be able to run both on highest so I’ll see..fingers crossed.

Have you got SSAA on 2x also or just MSAA?

Significant performance drop after last update

Doesn’t clicking ‘clean install’ do just that anyway? Not heard of DDU if I’m honest...is this the better option? -

No probs at all...keep us posted on how it’s going, we’ll get it running well again. -

Ah fair one mate...my PC is only 6 months old and it was at 4.5ghz and I’ve just upped it to 4.8 but from what I’ve been told I can run it at 5 or more without a problem. Think I’ll leave it as it is as it’s running DCS perfectly at high settings. Ok let’s try this.... I’m running a Acer XB240H monitor, fairly old gaming monitor but still quite good. I have it set at 120hz and in Inspector I lock the frames at 60FPS, select 1/2 refresh rate and Vsync limiter is set to ‘V2 Allow All’. V Sync off in DCS. This gives me complete 60FPS with the Hornet in every scenario I can throw at it, and that’s even with SSAA on 2x and MSAA on 2x also. Admittedly shadows are off. You should be able to achieve the same results with your PC specs. -

Not sure re the other shaders folder as I only have the 1 and that’s Metashaders2. Maybe someone will advise on that in a bit... Yeah definitely set the prefer max performance in Inspector, although I don’t think that’ll be causing significant performance drops. Just an observation....you appear to have a very similar system to mine but I noticed that it says stock next to your processor clock...you running standard clock on an 8700k? -

Yeah I agree. Sometimes I forget too. I hope it sorts his issues out, I’m confident it will... -

I’m not 100% sure it’s the same on the stable version but I imagine it is. -

Ok so I’ve not really got much of an idea of what it does, I just know that it works and it’s what you’re meant to do after each beta update. (Maybe someone could explain the details as to what it does?) So the way I do it is this... I go into the C:\ directory, click on users, then I click on the folder with my name on it and click on ‘saved games’, then go into the folder DCS Open Beta and they’re in there. Delete both FXO and Metashaders2 folders and the next time you load up DCS it’ll create new ones. Give it a try, any probs give me a shout... -

Have you deleted your FXO & Metashaders folders prior to running DCS after the updates? -

Yeah it’s a 1080P monitor, an Acer XB240H. Fairly old now compared to what’s available but still a good gaming monitor....well, so I’ve read. I’ll point out that I don’t have shadows on, nor mirrors. -
What’s your PC specs mate?

Hi mate...I’ve heard this before but when I turn off MSAA and leave SSAA on there’s a definite decrease in image quality, ie a lot of shimmering etc on buildings in the distance for example. The only way I rectify it and make everything sharp is by running them both. Odd. I’ll experiment again with this DSR technique over the weekend... -

Not to take anything away from this method as I’m sure it works but I’m noticing a lot of people on here with high end PC’s like mine, 8700k, 1080ti etc etc and they’re still struggling whereas I’m not. I have a 144hz monitor but I run it at 120hz. Lock the frames in Inspector at 60, choose half refresh rate and that’s it, ultra smooth, doesn’t move from 60. I’m running SSAA on full and MSAA on 2x rather than 4x as that dips the frames to 55 ish over big forests etc. -

I tried this but I’m not sure I did it correctly...I have a 1920x1080 screen 144hz Asus monitor but I wasn’t too sure what to set it to. I still think that SSAA on 2 and MSAA on 2 and locked at 60 frames gives me the best results. It’s glass smooth and I can’t see how it can get better than that. -
Ah ok cool, thanks for your reply. I'll leave it as it's running fine at the min....fingers crossed!
