  1. I know VFA-87 doesn't fly the Charlie anymore, but here is Tailhook 2017 JO panel talking about the recent shoot down. VFA-37 (still flying legacy jets, with lots of problems) is also on the panel since they were there that day. https://livestream.com/wab/tailhook2017/videos/162478715
  2. Thanks for the update and info. Also, thanks for being a trail blazer using this technology and tweaking the system settings. I may be next. Trying to understand the surge part. When you are on the runway and go from zero to Afterburners lit, the seat will surge up (vertical up movement) to simulate accel. Similar for decel but with serge down? Keep us posted on the max bank news (is it for both axes, or just roll?). Maybe a video from take off, dog fight, and landing would be good to show extent of ops and how it performs. Of course I know it will not speak to how it feels in VR and agree once in VR with slight motion the brain is going to do the rest of the work.
  3. Thanks for this review and heads up on the product, couple questions: In your video, when making those 90 deg banks, the chair only moves 10 or 15 degrees, is that very noticeable, or is your mind tricked with VR? When you accelerate or decelerate on the runway, does the chair pitch forward (simulate decel) and pitch back (simulate accel and g force in crease) while the image in VR stays flat? this is how real full motion simulator fake acel and decel You went with 2 DOF, do you reget not getting 3 DOF? Do you think it would add more or not? Does motion sickness come from latency or just from moving? When doing dog fight maneuvers (fast rolls and sharp moves) does the chair keep up, or does it feel off? Is it better for more benign maneuvers versus acrobatic/dog fight? Thanks!
  4. As part of the landing checklist, the pilot is supposed to lock the Harness (important enough that it appears on the DDI checklist page for landing). If the pilot fails to lock the harness, bad things happen after an arrested landing (e.g. your head is introduced to your knees for a few seconds ) Does anyone know how the real pilot locks the harness in the Hornet? Is it on the physical harness on their body, or next to the ejection seat? Either way, I thought it would be a wish list item to include this feature (lock and unlock harness) in the Hornet cockpit if doable. That way you have to perform the checklist item to avoid any bad consequences (virtual eye point flies forward to your knees in the cockpit after a trap).
  5. Hi Don, how does one get in and out of the cockpit shell? Is it sturdy enough to climb in like a real jet, or do you slide one part of the cockpit side out, or do you slide the seat out, then put back in? Thanks!
  6. Is there a way to not have to reinstall these files after every DCS update? It looks like they keep getting overwritten.
  7. vLSO is the only application that has successfully added the "burble" into a flight simulation environment (FSX and P3D), not to mention all of the LSO functionality (verbal calls and grading). https://vlso.blogspot.com/ In addition to the burble, I am really hoping for a crisp IFLOLS ("meatball) for VR users, set at correct angle, that also works for pitching deck (corrects for pitch and roll of ship). Also accurate night lighting (very low lighting) to include sequenced center line lights (rabbit) for night traps. Looking at the video, looks like it was a T-45 HUD. I think many of use here are excited for the future of simulated naval aviation ops with the addition of the Hornet, Tomcat, and new carriers. I think overtime all these things will become available in DCS, or at least I can hope.
  8. Awesome to see the first trap! Thanks for sharing with the rest of us who were waiting all day to see this happen. Thanks WAGS and team! Couldn't tell from the video, did the carrier have a working optical landing system (OLS) or meatball to help you?
  9. i think NTTR in 2.1 looks much much better at night and dawn/dusk in VR. I don't see the banding like before. Anyone else given it a try?
  10. curious, does anyone know the onspeed AoA for an A-7 Cosair, in degrees?
  11. Thought I would share this great app, can't believe how much detail it includes. PLAT cam Animated wires! Pitching deck Authentic HUD symbology Nice looking wake and effects See the short video I made here
  12. Thanks guys, getting more comfortable in DCS and really looking forward to the Hornet being added to the fleet. Hopefully the Hornet will do better in the ACM arena than this (thought I would make another video)...
  13. It's tough waiting for the F/A-18 to drop into DCS...
  14. Huge fan of SimShaker for Aviators, use it for all my DCS and P3D flying. Curious, are you going to add IL-2 Sturmovik to the supported simulations list? I just got it because of the VR capability, it is pretty amazing on the graphics and AI end, but with out SimShaker, it feels flat. :helpsmilie: The feedback and sensation from SimShaker is critical to flying a simulator now, especially a 'seat of the pants' WWII airplane. Also, regarding FC3 aircraft in DCS. I am using JAR's F/A-18C mod, which uses FC3 aircraft to enable you to fly the hornet in DCS. When I select this aircraft, SimShaker gives an error and the seat vibration doesn't work. It works fine for all other DCS aircraft. I assume it is because it is a mod that is not recognized by SimShaker. Any thoughts? Thanks for the help and input.
  15. Thanks JAR! Bravo Zulu! Thought I would pass along the link to the Navy's latest Approach magazine (Approach 360) since it has a nice story from VFA-113. See page 8. http://safety.navylive.dodlive.mil/approach-magazine/ Looking forward to simulating these failures and approaches to the boat some day soon in DCS.
  16. Nice! I like the new video. Definitely learned something. Do you guys make simple calls to get in formation, or have you figured out a way to have the Virtual Pilot in the cockpit give "zip lip" hand gestures? Maybe one day with VR gloves it would be possible :)
  17. Thanks JAR. I edited the .lua file and was able to get the LSO platform view after hitting Left Alt + F9. How does one call up the other views while in DCS (assigned keys/buttons)? I mocked up an LSO platform image of what hopefully may be in DCS VR one day
  18. Hi JAR, I downloaded the CVN-77 Mod from the Stingers website, but didn't see any documentation on how to get to the views shown in the video (e.g. LSO, Vultures Row, etc). Any help on how to access these predefined view points that are tied to the carrier? Thanks for the help brother!
  19. No ball calls usually means that pilot owes the others a round a beer  I like the wish list you guys started chatting about. If I am able to add a few, here is my input: CARRIER: Wire animation and failures simulated Burble effect simulated behind the ship based on winds and direction (make approaches more challenging) Controllable IFLOLS to include manual wave off lights (for zip lip ops and LSO MP session) Crisp IFLOLS for VR users, set at correct angle 3.5 degrees Pitching deck with correct IFLOLS response Accurate night lighting (low lighting) to include sequenced center line lights (rabbit) for night traps Structural damage simulated to aircraft from a hard landing (gear, hook failures) or ramp strike (LSO AI jump into crash net below platform, ok not necessary) Barricade simulated for emergency landings active deck crew (correct shirt colors and jobs) active AI jets moving about the deck and in the air simulating the launch and recovery cycle LSO platform for VR view (as mentioned in video) with a working PLAT display visible while on platform station a virtual LSO that grades your approach and gives informative/directive/imperative NATOPS correct calls based on performance during the approach (single player ops) Tanker track around carrier for some organic refueling HORNET: Just a DCS A-10C level of detail bird ACLS tied to the carrier for some CV 1 approaches in the soup and at night (maybe to include errors for needles check). Simulated hand gestures for zip lip ops for wingman to see and respond too (e.g. formation and kiss off gestures) OK, that is it for now.
  20. Someone should tell 311 Hook about flying for the Air Force. Just kidding, I know it is harder than it looks. Nice job and like the "easy with it" calls!
  21. See the attached pic. So my mouse cursor now looks like a hash box with three circles in VR. Any thoughts on what is causing this in DCS? pc specs in sig.
