  1. I had to go back to refresh myself on it again. Yeah I suppose you are right. We still don't know the actual clean weight of our aircraft aside from what the ME tells us. It's really unfortunate. The weight of the pallets and fairings is equal to a GBU-10, that's not nothing. My fear is that HB built a flight model based on a clean jet that performs like a heavy one, or visa versa, a heavy jet that performs like a clean one.
  2. Check out the sticky topic about the performance FM development starting around page 20. I think the on speed tests we did ruled out the weight of the pallets being baked into the aircraft clean weight.
  3. Neither. The weight isn't added at all, with or without missiles, according to the testing methods Victory advised me to use. And I haven't seen it acknowledged by anyone from HB.
  4. The only way Jester can lock a datalink contact is if you choose STT specific, and then choose one of the blue options. The contacts are almost certainly above or below your scan volume if you can only see them on datalink and not the radar. Jester can only TWS on contacts that are seen by the radar, within the scan volume.
  5. Just wanted to share this pretty crazy clip we saw this weekend on our wing's Saturday night main event. An F-14A was able to kill a cold aspect F-16C from 45nm. The F-16 was doing 0.9 Mach at 40k at the time of the missile launch, but continued to accelerate all the way up to Mach 1.4, and still got nailed. I'm sure the F-16 could've defeated the missile if he dove to a lower altitude, but he assumed he was more than safe from that range and speed. I estimate the missile probably travelled about 70 miles and was still doing Mach 2 at impact. AIM-54A-60. Edit/Add: I forgot to mention the missile got up to Mach 5.6 btw. 6. I'd rather have a Sparrow if I'm within 5-10nm of a target. Its your short-medium range face shot missle, amd it's unnotchable if you use PSTT. The Phoenix is a great missile bit it accelerates slowly.
  7. 51st VFW VIPER RECRUITING HAS BEEN RE-OPENED! LIMITED SPOTS AVAILABLE. This is a very popular module, so join today, don't delay! https://51stvirtualfighterwing.com/ https://discord.gg/51stvfw Edit: Thanks for the interest everyone, Viper recruiting has been closed again.
  8. I'm struggling to find the best way to test if the wake turbulence checkbox is piling on extra burble to the Tomcat. I tried a side by side of myself doing a level pass over the deck at 100 feet baro. Full dirty config, DLC extended but not manipulated at all. No wake turbulence checked on the left, wake turbulence checked on the right. I think I see a tiny bit more disturbance on the right side as I'm passing over the roundown. In tacview it looks like my FPM is bumped upwards instead of down, but in the sim it feels like a down force. I dunno. It's very hard to prove this but I do think I feel a burble increase with the box ticked. Can you guys double check with ED to ensure they have everything set properly to give us the burble effect Heatblur intended?
  9. Some pictures from the tacview in case it's easier... Bandits at 1/2 nm spread with a single Phoenix inbound (TWSA supported). Phoenix pitbulls on right man at about 10nm, and triggers the new AI defensive response to split-S. It might be hard to see here, but at precisely the same moment that the left F-16 rolls inverted the pitbull is momentarily broken, (a possible bug in itself), and the missile acquires a new pitbull on the left man instead. Note the course correction. The right man who was originally pitbulled continues his Split-S defense even though he is not being locked anymore. The left man flies straight and level right into the missile, seemingly unaware of it. No AI defensive response was initiated by the missile pitbulling onto him.
  10. Sorry for the bad subject title, I don't know how else to title what I've noticed. TACVIEW attached. Summary of events: -AIM-54A-60 launched in TWSA mode on a 2-ship close formation of MiG-29s. The missile is being guided by the AWG-9 onto the right man in the formation. -AIM-54 pitbulls on right man, which triggers new AI behavior to perform split-S. -At the exact moment the right man rolls inverted the pitbull is broken. (This in itself is strange behavior worthy of a bug report). -The Phoenix immediately pitbulls onto the next available target, the left man, and makes a course correction. The new pitbull does not trigger the new AI defensive split-S behavior. The left man continues to fly straight ahead as if the missile is still tracking the right man. This behavior is repeatable. I have multiple TACVIEWs of the same scenario and outcome. Broken lock, killed wingman instead TRIMMED.txt.acmi
  11. Is anyone else still feeling extra burble effect with the wake turbulence checked, or am I going crazy?
  12. The AIM-54A-60 is a beast again. At 40k you can bag ace level AI F-16Cs from 70 nm without even assisting the loft, missiles impacting at ~Mach 2. The new AI has actually made the them worse in some ways. Since they no longer start evading until the pitbull warning, it's too late for them. The same shot was only available at about 50 nm in the previous patch in my testing. Whatever induced drag changes were made has made a large difference IMO, not a subtle one. I'm also seeing some weird behavior VS F-16s though. Especially with close range active off the rail shots. The AI can break the lock with a simple aileron roll. I think as soon as they are inverted the lock is broken. Virtually no aspect change needed. More testing needed.
  13. I was surprised there was no fix for the extra burble effect we've been experiencing since the patch that implemented it in the Hornet. I believe it is dependent on whether or not the Wake Turbulence setting is checked or not. Has that been looked at yet?
  14. I think every pilot who goes into combat is going to know about the split-S, regardless of being in clouds or dark. Also, what are you afraid of F-5s doing to you at 55-70 nm? You can get much closer and still out range anything they can hurt you with.
  15. Your problem is you're expecting kill shots on maneuvering targets from 70 nm. You need to adjust your expectations. At 40k try 40-50nm shots. At 30k try 30nm. At 20k try 20nm. At 10 and below try 10nm. If you loft 15-deg you can squeeze a bit more out of the guideline, maybe an extra 5nm at the lower alts and 15nm at the higher ones. With the MK60 I have a PK of about 75% or more if I follow these guidelines. My missiles have around Mach 2 at the moment of impact at all these alts+distances, assuming ace difficulty targets that start hot and Split-S at the pitbull. You can eat Flankers and Fulcrums alive if you follow these steps. Just beware of their Mach 4.6 R-27 ETs and their Mach 5.5 ERs from 15nm and closer. You have to shoot 54s active off the rail and turn cold immediately to stay safe from those bastards. (Mach 5.5...ED, really?)
  16. At 17 mins looks like over lofting to me. If he would've lofted 15 deg it would've been fine. If you aim for outer space the missile will go to outer space.
  17. Ahh, gotcha. I misinterpreted. Yeah I was thinking "286 feet? Really? Seems kinda far, but if Iron Mike says so..."
  18. Sorry if this fuels your mild infuriation, but here's a shot of mine that got within the threshold you mentioned and didn't go boom.
  19. Do your missiles work properly in single player? Or do they loft into space there too?
  20. I agree, it's not possible in zero illumination and 2.2 gamma without NVGs. The probe light definitely functions though. If you plug the basket at night you will see the light reflecting on the bottom edge of it. I think the fall off distance of the light is too short though. And so is the fall off distance of the tanker lights. There should be some ambient light cast from the tanker position lights, etc. Don't even get me started on the draw distance at which tanker lights become visible. You can only see their lights at the highest LOD model which is only visible at something like 0.1 NM. Lighting in DCS is a complete trainwreck.
  21. The steering cue does not offset for elevation, only azimuth. It is stabilized vertically and always centered no matter what your vertical orientation is relative to the target. So no, in this case the airplane is not telling you what to do. Unless the steering cue is modeled incorrectly?
  22. What dot? Are you talking about the inverted T steering cue? Isn't it stabilized to the aircraft's attitude? It doesn't matter if I'm lofting or not, the inverted T is always centered in the vertical axis on my end.
  23. More testing today... I can get my PK close to 100% if I close to 45-50 NM, assist my loft a little bit more, and launch from the high 30s at Mach 1+. Even with TGT Size Normal. Ace difficulty AI FWIW. I'm sure human opponents would be far more difficult to kill, but the missiles seem to track fine to me and hold energy pretty well. I still haven't seen one single mark-60 go stupid into space.
  24. I did one or two dozen tests yesterday and today verses a 2-ship of J-11s. -AIM-54A M60 -Mach 1.1-1.2 at launch, usually at around 30-35k at around 55-65 NM. -TWSA and TGT Size large. I assist the loft a bit, but not too much. Missiles are getting up to about 65K, and still dong about Mach 3 at pitbull. Not all my missiles hit, (the AI actually knows the split-S now), but they track well and get close. None of them, not even one, went stupid into space like some people are experiencing. Here's a follow up shot closer range from down low, AI still performs perfect last resort notches. What can you do? It's ED AI. Overall the missiles are tracking very well for me and retaining energy, (not over-maneuvering after pitbull), much better than they were a year ago. Chaff resistance is also far better. I'm much happier with the Phoenix than at this time last year when my PK was less than 10%. Now it's probably around 40% under the same conditions. I'm really looking forward to the completed API and the finishing touches on the Phoenix.
