  1. Lucky? Brown trouser moment!
  2. Hehehe glad to hear you've got yourself sorted. Remember to use the 'Affinity Trick' when you're getting the fps/graphics settings set up - assigning the game to both cores can almost double framerates in Vista.
  3. Reminds me a bit of Falcon - when the unit's morale is at rock bottom they won't fire back (maybe simulating desertions). I found it quite funny when the unit you're talking about happens to include quite a few ZSU-23's.. Get Your Own Back Time lol
  4. System seems fine, as has been said though, CPU not GPU. Whichever processor you get, buy a decent HS/F combo for it and overclock. On High settings, 1900x1200, my CPU usage is about 50/80%, and that's OC'd to 3.8GHz. (Dual Core) Also I run a 3850 and my framerates are 40-110 whenever I look (It's got choppy once or twice for a second, but that seems to be when a trigger is set off..?). So if you're on a budget a 4850 is possibly not worth the cost (but still desirable! :)). Edit: If you do get a Dual Core and overclock you will need faster memory - 800MHz will only allow you to OC to about 3.8-4.0GHz when you could be getting a fair amount more! If you get a quad core no such worries AFAIK
  5. Instead of starting the Multiplayer Launcher, start the 'DCS: Black Shark [Launcher]' Feel silly? Lol
  6. Warning! Viper Pilot! Hehe x2
  7. I'm still learning to fly the aircraft, and haven't flown it into combat yet, but it confuses me why we have such a high LOD on tanks that you will only ever see up close if you crash near. Whereas villages that you will fly over routinely still have the messed up satellite imaging ground textures (even just green would be pref to pixellated aerial images!), but also 3D buildings.
  8. I read an i7 review just to see what the fuss was all about, and i'm fairly sure it's not a huge fps increase even on CPU intensive games. The emphasis of the conclusion at the end was that whilst it was only really slightly above it's competitors, it was technology that would be future-compatible and had an enormous potential for overclocking. That said and done, if it's twice the price for an i7 system vs a very good Core 2 system.. Not a great time to upgrade Vekkinho, you have a big dilemma!
  9. Nice one SD. 39fps minimum is perfect.
  10. I'll stick a couple of links on then, i'm the sort of person who reads it all thoroughly though, you might want to find something a bit less mindnumbing that doesn't waffle on lol http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/240001-11-howto-overclock-quads-duals-guide http://www.clunk.org.uk/forums/overclocking/2-c2d-overclocking-guide-beginners-p5k-add.html I use CPU-z, Real Temp, and HWMonitor (sounds the same as Speedfan). I by no means mean to patronise anyone, I just never found a decent explanation of what overclocking actually was. All the stuff about RAM ratio's etc. got me thinking it was really complex (which it can be), but it in theory can be very simple. Here's an explanation of what Overclocking is: THIS IS NOT A GUIDE, lol - You can kill almost everything on your mobo if you don't know what you're doing. The aim is basically to make your FSB as large as possible whilst keeping your temperatures under 65C. The Front Side Bus can be any number you want to enter in the BIOS, and each CPU uses a 'Multi' (Multiplier). Mine and SunDogs' E8500's have a multiplayer of 9.5x. This means that if my FSB is set to 333, the CPU will output 333x9.5 which equals.. 3163.5 That number is the speed the processor is running - FSB is measured in MHz, so.. 3163.5MHz = 3.16GHz - the stock speed of our e8500! To overclock it, it's easy. Just find the FSB box in the BIOS and stick a new number in. If I enter 400[MHz], it will give me a speed of 3.800GHz - simple! This extra processing needs extra power (Volts), and this is where it gets interesting[..ish]. To make the processor stable you will need to increase the Voltage to it. This is also done in the BIOS by simply entering the desired number into the CPU Voltage box. Stock Voltage for my e8500 was 1.2500v. To run at 3.8GHz stable, I needed to raise this to 1.2700v. Simple as that! Now this extra Voltage will create extra heat (hence SunDog getting a big fancy cooler!). Another thing is that there are other voltages (exaple: for the NorthBridge). Same principle here too, the voltage will need to be raised in order for it keep up and run with stability. Exactly as with the CPU, more volts will make the component hotter, so you may need to buy a new Heatsink, same as SunDog did for the CPU. Now the system has been overclocked and the voltages have been raised. However.. Increasing that FSB changed your RAM speed. RAM has a maximum speed at which it can run. SunDog has 800MHz RAM. This means that he needs to make sure that he keeps his FSB under 400. This is the 'Dual Data Rate' part of the ram - 400MHz FSB x 2[it's dual] = 800MHz! If SunDog went over 800MHz he would then be overclocking his RAM. So now we've got my e8500 to 3.8GHz, running stable, with my CPU using 1.2700v, and my NorthBridge using 1.300V. This is creating more heat, which is handled by my new heatsinks and fans. The only job now is to get the voltages as low as possible, so that the system will run as cool as it can! Finished, we're overclocked and [very importantly] stable! Like I said, wish someone had written that BEFORE I took 5 pages of notes! THATS NOT A GUIDE > it's an explanation! Hope that helped someone who wasn't entirely sure what overclocking is all about. Most of the numbers used are off the top of my head and won't be correct, and i'm certainly no expert, so I may be wrong! But anyway, hopefully might help someone understand the overclocking guides better. mike
  11. I'm not sure if a military defeat of Pakistan would have made any difference on the subject of training and arms from Pakistan to the Muhajadin. The areas bordering Afghanistan, whilst still technically Pakistani territory, are essentially self-governed by local warlords - much like Afghanistan. Even if Pakistan WERE sympathetic to the Russian cause and WANTED to stop the border tribes supporting the Muhajadin they would have had to fight these tribes (and essentially replicate Russia's war in Afghanistan). I think we are looking at things with slightly Western eyes here, and some thought needs to be given to the 'tribal topography.' As for heroin, AFAIK it was grown in Afghanistan and processed in Pakistan by warlords, with the CIA providing access to transport etc. OT, but the Taliban banned Poppy production in 2000, leaving the CIA with a potential $18 Billion deficit. Add to this the fact that they denied permission for oil pipelines to run across the north of the country, and suddenly you'll find that a regime change is quite necessary.. I'm happy to be corrected on anything I say, but as we are discussing history people need to remain objective. I'm sure that many people in the US will not like presumptions that the CIA support drug trafficking. Much like a Russian citizen who's father served in the armed forces may not like somebody presuming that Soviet soldiers were disposable. So please can people not get slightly offended and defensive when views are offered? If a theory is incorrect an objective audience will not take it personally (and the person with the incorrect theory can stand corrected without feeling somebody has insulted their intelligence). Sorry if that's preachy lol, With respect, MM :)
  12. Do you reckon 10C difference sounds like a minor hardware error in the chip? (as if it even matters when under 50C at full load :)) I just looked on eBay for the RAM that I have and some of the prices are ridiculous! I got 4GB paired in two sticks for under £95, with a [loud] cooling fan. Pays to shop around I suppose.
  13. What CPU usage are you finding? With those fps' I take it's 100%?
  14. Beautiful. Think that I may be treating myself to a new HS/F! What graphics card did you say you're using Sundog?
  15. Wow, I wasn't expecting that.
  16. HAHAHAHAHAHA
  17. http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=hCukEYRY2ME Watch 1.32 - 2.10 I've seen that manouver in real life, as well as them going to the top and then coming back down BACKWARDS (like a skater going goofy in a halfpipe) making a big 'U' in the air. It's f&*#ing scary, take my word for it. The sheer speed when it reaches the bottom of it's dive lol. Go on, try it in the Ka-50 lol
  18. I can't really remember Hannibal, I just remember I had to wait until the next day as I had to buy some thermal compound seperately (which I thought was pointless at the time, but is essential in the long run when you reseat the CPU after cleaning the heatsink). You're right Prophet. Having said that however, if you play old games can you use the affinity trick?
  19. CyBerkut, i'm back now, finished my Overclock. Got my E8500 to 3.8GHz on the stock heatsink fan. When I get a real HSF i'm hoping to reach 5GHz, or at least 4.5GHz. As I said i've got a 3850. I'll probs have a fly around tonight and get some approx framerates, and hopefully find the peak CPU usage. Might help.
  20. What budget are you talking? Not sure what prices are like, but will this be an ultimate BS system, or will it be a stop-gap system until Intel's new chips and the 2009 GPU's come out?
  21. I'm using an E8500/3850 mix and i'll update here when I finally finish my OC if you want? I'm using Vista-64 with 4Gb of fast ram. It was maxxed out at 3.16GHz (stock), running Med-High settings, not sure where the 'ceiling' is that BS needs. Check http://forums.eagle.ru/forumdisplay.php?f=46 for more info if you haven't seen some of the threads :) EDIT: Duhhh me getting mixed up, apologies lol --^
  22. I'm certainly no expert whatsoever but seeing as there's been no other replies I hope you don't mind me jogging your mind a bit with any suggestions. Have you Activated Starforce?
  23. I know that you wanted FF in order not to have to recenter the stick, but for anyone interested in FF just for stall warnings, cannon effects etc, check these out: http://www.shoptronix.com/B000AOTLP6/M/B000AOTLP6.htm or http://www.shakercentre.co.uk/aspbite/products/products.asp?intProductsID=3 Bass shakers. I don't have one, but it's on my wishlist! Apparently these aren't to hard to make yourself either, for all you modders. I'm going to look into it properly when I get some my finances sorted.
