wanted! Used rudder pedals and track ir
CE_Mikemonster replied to Kevlon's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
As a cheap fix using racing wheel rudder pedals is possible? eBay some, mine were only £2! -
Can I turn my PC off at the wall at night (to stop my FFB adapter/transformer being hot all the time)? My mobo's a p5K-Pro (doubt it'll matter what type anyway), just wondered if it'd lose any settings or wear out the CMOS battery in a short space of time. Like I said it is a bit of a silly question, just thought i'd check. Dr.Google dodn't help a huge amount :(. Cheers, Mike

linking 2 PCs: hardwire, or wireless
CE_Mikemonster replied to Flyby's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I know you're waiting on a reply for something else, but I just had a quick google for 'powerline adapters' and it seems that Netgear are monopolising Google searches lol, that was all there was on the first page. I found this, though i'm sure you'll have seen similar (this is the UK version). It has a benchmark for the Netgear one, as well as a couple of others. http://www.trustedreviews.com/networking/review/2007/01/25/Netgear-HDXB101-Powerline-HD-Ethernet-Adapters/p1 I hought it was interesting that it mentioned a Panasonic version with 'more features' that actually cost less. Some seem to have AV features (like Belkin's), and it's probably worth getting those, seemed only about £20 more. I'm feeling a bit stung now for using Wireless N1 lol. On the other hand you'll need a decent router anyway to plug the adapters into - so make sure you see what speed HD streaming videos at and match that (might futureproof things a little bit). powerline does look like a winner though, plus it's just the sort of thing you can get dirt cheap on eBay (BNIB). -

12 Tu-95's + 6 Tu-160's vs 14 F-15's + 4 F-22's!?!
CE_Mikemonster replied to Case's topic in Military and Aviation
Earlier this year there was a report in UK newspapers about another interception of a Bear or something, in the North sea. As far as i'm aware it's not even probing for weaknesses over here, just a case of flexing of the muscles a little bit in relation to gas supplies in Eastern Europe. Made a nice advert for the Eurofighter though! Front page justification for a cold war fighter (in 2009...). Edit: Aug 2007. -
why no radar warning reciever?
CE_Mikemonster replied to silent one's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
I have to admit that for a sim so excruciatingly detailed in terms of the study aircraft the missions seem to have received very little thought, which I find frustrating and annoying. If you want a high-fidelity simulated Ka-50 then brilliant. If you want to fly that ka-50 into combat - not so brilliant. Obviously it's not like ED need to impress any world militaries with the helicopter flight model though. Especially not at the expense of resources that could have been dedicated to making lifelike missions and briefings ;). Mate, that's called a monopoly. -
Russian audio in English version?
CE_Mikemonster replied to zika1234's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
He had a soft voice, correction and my apologies mate. I have to admit that I only saw a short bit of the trailer. Edit: Erm anyhoo.. I think what I was meant to mention is that seeing as WE all have different accents, what's normal for me wouldn't make much sense to someone from the Amazonian Rainforest, Mars, Glasgow etc. Take Goldmember for example lol -
No Radar warning, no radar guidance, no radar SAMs?

Downwash From AI Helicopters Affects Stability?
CE_Mikemonster replied to CE_Mikemonster's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
I just tried hovering under my wingman when he was static, no turbulence whatsoever. Possibly its only modelled with human Ka-50's in multiplayer? I'm sure if it was correctly modelled you'd know about it! Just as well I suppose, as they are so happy to fly directly overhead when rejoining formation. I take it that slipstream effects and turbulence with fast jets won't be modelled in the later modules? -
Spot on, the 'Other Target' button on Datalink worked a treat with Skhval, wingman just flew there and hovered.

Russian audio in English version?
CE_Mikemonster replied to zika1234's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
Jeez, I saw a trailer for Valkyrie the other day. Hope i'm not the only one that doesn't like the 'true American hero' with full drawl standing up against nazism. Even Eddie Izzard was using his normal voice (and he's camp). I thought it hardly represents the upper echelons of at the time the most professional army in the world. I've got nothing against the image of a true American hero, but in an all-German war film? I'm liking the english speech with Russian accent, how would you like the voices to be in Queens English? :( (like the Queen) -

^Wise words As a 'No RWR?' veteran, I recommend you all please see this thread too lol http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=37079 The way I see it, there are only 12 in service and Russia has no real need for 12 Ka-50's in a conventional war. There is space allocated in the airframe for a RWR on the Ka-50, and it has been tested (unofficially). If the Ka-50 had been mass produced (as a tank killer for the conventional battlefield), an RWR would therefore have been fitted. The Ka-50 in Black Shark is therefore true to life, however the application of it in the Oil War campaign is not necessarily so true to life (the campaign is there I presume so you can experience flying it as a tank killer). The subject is indeed a pain in the arse for all involved lol -
Question about TrackIR

Cheers Macka, I had a suspicion it was something like that. Apologies for my laziness in not searching, it was always 'one of those things' that i'd sort out eventually lol -
bit of help for a helo nooby please!!
CE_Mikemonster replied to mrtube's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
use; Right-CTRL+ENTER to display trim settings, and see if it's trimming correctly. Take into account that due to the coaxial rotors the helicopter wants to turn varying directions depending what speed you're going. Greetings from another F4 fan! Free Falcon 5 is coming out soon, take a look, still an active community http://www.freefalcon.com/forum/index.php -
Well noticed. It always confuses me when meteorological reports do that [iRL] with the wind. 'A strong North Westerly' etc.. Reminds me of my Geog GCSE lol

Question about TrackIR
CE_Mikemonster replied to ACUTech's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Does anyone elses TrackIR go into 'Sloooow Motion' sometimes? I think mine may be overheating, but sometimes it's ok, sometimes it's not. If I close down the Program then restart it's then ok again. -

I'm sure you could get a mobility kill on an M1 Abrams if you hit the rear with AP cannon fire. The engine block would increase the 'crew survivability' indeed, but by sacrificing itself. Frontal armour is all very well - but has anyone mentioned the armour depths and strengths on the BACK of the turret? M1 has the ammunition compartment there, deliberately seperated from the crew compartment. What would happen if an AP round penetrated into this cavity? http://www.fprado.com/armorsite/US-Field-Manuals/abrams-oif.pdf (I don't think that this is by any means a reliable source - it seems put together by spurious experts and armchair warriors 'Team Abrams' EH?) EDIT; after another look it looks like the M1 has an APU externally on the rear of the turret (Latest SEP models have it internally). This can lead to ignited external storage dripping onto engine. On the upside the blast doors seperating the crew from the ammunition in the turret seem to do their job well, but any penetration and secondary explosion there would still take the tank out of combat.
