  1. Sorry for OT; PM seemed a bit personal. If you like your multiplayer stick with F4AF, but if you want better graphics, AI updates, IFF (can't remember what else lol..), download and install Red Viper (free/shareware made by the Free falcon team). That said Free Falcon 5 is coming out soon[ish], which is a massively updated Red Viper, so you may want to wait. Both should install over your AF cd, you won't need the original Falcon.
  2. 4th core for the co-pilot AI.. Or failing that the co-pilot scratching away on a pair of decks..
  3. The ergonomics seem a lot different, lol
  4. Some things have to be guesswork I suppose, even when you have the other 99% of the info. Anyone who's played Falcon 4.0 without IFF and then played with IFF can probably testify with me that it makes a big difference on gameplay. Well it did to me!
  5. You know what mate, I really doubt he did lol
  6. I'm with you there Tharos. FADM Stern GNSF, I can see where you're coming from, but it's a lot more than that on a fast mover, especially a fighter. AMRAAMs for instance don't need the firer to be 'locked on' (that horrible panic tone). The same can apply for SAM's.
  7. I remember reading about F-15's picking up cars on radar along the autobahn in Germany lol (no speed limits in some places!**) **Edit: That wasn't for you TOW, obviously!
  8. Basically then, what is current Russian doctrine for SEAD/DEAD on the battlefield in a conventional war? Will they send helicopters without RWR's into a radar monitored battlefield?
  9. That's true, and to be honest I personally couldn't see them being fitted with RWR's ever seeing as there are so few of them. But then that's because surely in a high-threat battlefield environment where radar SAM's are active you'd use the Mi-28, with higher survivability, spare parts etc. I suppose the question really is more; "In the campaign in BS would the Ka-50 be fitted with a RWR" And that depends on how realistic the campaign is, and the events leading up to it. The Ka-50 in 2009 isn't an anti-armour helicopter is it? It's for supporting special forces and low[ish!]-threat work. So like I said both sides are right as far as i'm concerned. It's just a matter of which battlefield the helicopter would be used on, and the political events leading up to it. In the campaign in BS is there a large fleet of Ka-50's dedicated to high-threat battlefields, or is it a small fleet of specialist helicopters for low-tempo work..?
  10. You're right Tharos I just mean that for a conventional war the 12 Ka-50's wouldn't be used as tank destroyers, so RWR or not, the context of this discussion is theoretical. The Mi-28 has an RWR though, so i'm presuming that the Russians saw it as essential on a conventional battlefield. With the potential to carry a RWR, if a conventional war was brewing, (and Russia had large numbers of Ka-50's for use), I could see them being upgraded to carry one. To be honest it seems the only reason the Ka-50 doesn't have a RWR is that there's no point with only 12 in service to be used against soft targets in Chechnya.
  11. Whoaa hang on, i'm not complaining. I just meant originally that any fictional campaigns are by definition not real. Wheras the flight model of the Ka-50 can be backed up by statistics, and is realistic. So when you combine the two there are bound to be conflicts like the Ka-50 not having a RWR.
  12. If the campaigns were realistic, they would have already happened at the date they are set at.
  13. On the Gauntlet mission my Wingie shot down one of a pair of UH-60's from their 8o'clock, and the other just carried on straight (following a road). I did a sort of unintentional-but-it-actually-looked-quite-skillfull high pass on him at a 90deg angle, and with the HMS slewing the gun shot him down with a Veeeeeeery lucky shot. From this angle I should have been engaged by the door gunner though, surely?! (I thought he just didn't make an evasive manouver because that mission is more arcade, to test your skill - UH-60 = Pigeon to shoot)
  14. I know this is the 12th page and all, but the problem is that whilst the helicopter is at an unprecedented level of realism, the campaigns aren't. So in a horrible way you could say that both sides are right, because the Ka-50 is modelled using only 100% verified info. And it's application (in the campaigns), is based on mere theory. Soo....
  15. Beautiful system, nice one!
  16. On the airspeed scale in-game there's a line at about the 300 mark, I always thought it was max airspeed.
  17. Yup, you can't beat an integrated battlefield, which is exactly what a Dynamic Campaign engine is.
  18. I wasn't having a go Eric, just couldn't resist replying! Had a bit of a grin on my face, but it really isn't funny. One of the lads that crewed the British Scimitar won the VC (I think) for running back to the vehicle and pulling out his colleagues whilst under fire. OT, but a RWR simply measures incoming radar waves and determines what system sent them (Based on wavelength etc.). The actual IFF is seperate and is a transponder/receiver that receives coded queries and replies only to 'friendly' ones. [AFAIK] In this game I suppose it would only really apply if an Apache had IFF and a SAM crew 'interrogated' it.
  19. I'm not trying to rock the boat here but by saying it's a 'gift' are you implying it's worth more than $50? I'm glad it came out and obviously if price was an issue I would have waited, but we are talking about business here. Are the programmers in charge of ED's finances or is there a finance/marketing/publishing team? At the end of the day every company is a profit making organisation, no matter how 'nice'. I'm not moaning about the price and I do think it's worth it, hence why I bought it. A fair price for a hard days work. What I am moaning about is that it is a 'favour' to the end user to have made it available early. And we should be thankful for it. We did pay extra for the privelege! Peace and respect, MM
  20. Mad, good job to the pilot. Quite reassuring also. I don't want to hijack this thread but I didn't want to clone it, so can I ask if these planes are officially capable of 'ditching' safely, and if there's a set procedure? I always thought the engines would drag far too much and pitch the nose down. If this isn't the right place to mention all this please delete the post, my apologies.
  21. Hahaha good find! Have you noticed that when you shoot down an enemy heli, in the Mission Summary it has (for instance): Pilot: Mikemonster Target: UH-60 Pilot Shot: 30mm HE Hit I saw it and thought i'd actually hit the pilot for a split second! Sharpshooter lol, fokker ace in a Ka-50
  22. They were British. Tricky questions!
  23. 250kph @ 600m, 4.5km range to target, short bursts. Hmmm might take some practise.. lol Just out of interest there's no line on the HUD airspeed scale, and instead of the 'pXXX' altitude readind there's '-XXXX' (four digits)?
  24. Serves you right for having 4870x2, i'm limping on with a 3850! It's the CPU that matters in this game though mate, doubt you need to use X-fire at all. 'Show FPS' is R.SHIFT + PAUSE/BREAK as far as I remember. I have a program that launches DCS with the cores set automatically, but after a lot of searching can't find the link I dl'd it from, sorry! Just use the search function and you'll find one (there's at least two.. the one i'm using is dedicated to DCS).
