Patch Nov 18th - F-14A release - Feedback Thread
fat creason replied to IronMike's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
This is being investigated, a fix should be in the next patch/hotfix. Trying to solve some issues resulted in breaking other good parts. -
Thump-Bang Failures? TF-30s catching fire at ~1.2M

Fix is in the works for this, there is an engine overheating problem in certain high altitude cases. High and slow is always the worst case for engine temperatures. -
Remove all mods and try a full repair.

We welcome any users' improvements to the sound (sdef changes or better samples!). If you have something that you think is an improvement, send me a video example along with the sdef and/or audio sample and we will evaluate. The sound delay problem is tough to solve, we're not sure what causes it. Same with the phasing sound from the intakes. Directional sound is done entirely in the sdef file, and the only aspects that can be changed real-time in the code are gain, pitch, and radius. The mixing and blend of all sounds together in a good way is the most difficult part. I'm looking for ways to reduce intake whine in flybys while keeping it audible in F2 view. Unfortunately there's no way to know if the camera is in F3/Flyby mode, which would help a ton (sound engine limitations mentioned above). Many of these issues are not as simple to solve as they may seem, everything is a tradeoff (as with most things). I've put in a few sound engine change requests in to ED that would make solving many of these problems easier, will see what they have to say. sdefexample.txt

Nothing related to slat schedules or buffeting has changed in probably a year or more.

It cannot be expected that ED and/or all 3rd party addons be made compatible with every single DCS mod out there. No DCS developers have the resources to do this, if an official addon breaks a mod, contact the mod creator.

Standard Day, clean, about 10000lbs of gas, 30000-40000 ft. -
There are a few sound issues that we will try to address that we just ran out of time for. Consider this version of the overhaul v1.0. Some things are just limitations of the sound engine or a lack of good audio samples to achieve what we'd like.

There's no way to know. I don't even think it's visible from the RIO seat, he can reach it but not see it. There are no plans to do anything beyond what has already been implemented. -
Our SME advised us to make them easier to break, which is now closer to reality.

We work with what ED provides, and that's the best I could find. Looks like some new effects may trickle down from the WWII damage model updates.

Thump-Bang Failures? TF-30s catching fire at ~1.2M
fat creason replied to Quid's topic in Bugs and Problems
Yeah, it's probably related to the engine getting too hot. Will try to reproduce. The stall warning also will go off in any overtemp condition. Kinda seems like something in the engine is getting cooked and results in a fire. I've taken the A up to Mach 2+ in level flight many times in the past week and never had any of these issues. -

This is very odd, did not experience any of that in testing... -
Remember, nearly all aspects of missile guidance we have zero control over. Best to report to ED. Up until the last patch the AIM-54 was a giant AIM-120 because that's all we could do via the API.

It's somewhere in the back and it's not clickable (hence the keybind). We're not even sure that anyone pulled this CB in any real-life scenario short of some likely embellished stories from Snort. -
Not an option, it's on both A and B by default.

Will the F-14B be coming with the DFCS?

What was all that one-in-a-million talk? -

Will the F-14B be coming with the DFCS?

Very unlikely. If we ever did it, it would be with a B(U) or D and those are extremely unlikely. Like I've said before, we have to draw the line somewhere. -
This is on the to-do list, it has not yet become apparent to me how hook skipping can be implemented via the hook API that ED has provided. I'll get it eventually when other more important things are done.

I believe something like this is already WIP, not sure of an ETA though. -
F-14A on the 19th? *wink, wink, nudge nudge*
fat creason replied to Southernbear's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
If you read more of the posts around this one, you'll see that I was responding to a customer that was claiming the F-14 product is fraudulent because a niche feature that they wanted (and we never confirmed) is currently not planned to be included. I wasn't talking down to anyone and I certainly don't think anyone owes us anything. Conversely, we also don't owe every customer every item on their personal F-14 wishlist, and not implementing every item on every customer's wishlist does not make our product a fraud. Have to draw the line somewhere. We are still in the process of delivering all the items we said we would deliver, and when you look at the F-14A/B in context of every other DCS module that exists, you are getting much, much more for your money. I think nearly everyone can agree on that. -
Flap torque tubes have the possibility of breaking at 10 knots above the 225 KIAS limit, as well as 2.5G and up. The faster you go or add loading beyond that, the chance increases. If the flaps are in motion this chance increases even more. If you are able to hit 300 KIAS before the flaps jam, that's a bug. It might have already been fixed for this update but I will verify and the fix will be in the next patch we release.

That crash is caused by something else that I just fixed, those other two sound errors have also been fixed. They will be in the next patch.
