Operation Snowfox - Persian Gulf PvE Playground

Only the units and statics will be persistent at the moment. I have considered making the mission number itself persistent as well, but was going to look into that when the Syria map comes out (if it ever comes out ... waiting is painful). You could use the skip mission from the radio menu and try your luck on re-rolling the one you were on before, although with a total of 120 missions to pick from ... -

No SAMs, although I might use Flak from the WW2 assets ... not sure yet. Yes it's mostly going to be ground attack and dogfighting around the fake Yalu river :P The dogfighting part is already functional, just have to 'tune' it in so to speak. Turned out running into flights of 3x MiG-15's when you are on your own in Sabre is beyond my abilities :) -

Of course not, Snowfox and Clear Field will just get Huey's and JF-17 added. What I mean is a totally separate mission for the Sabre and MiG-15. Since there isn't much content that ships with those modules, I pretty much have to build something for myself with those two planes anyway. Just want to see how many others would be interested in it. I'll probably make the area over Zugdidi 'MiG Alley' or something and the river than runs through that area can be the stand in for the Yalu river ... something like that anyway. -

Question for you Snowfoxers ... who would be interested in a playground for the Sabre and MiG-15 ... some sort of Korean War thing built on Caucasus as a stand in map since there is no Korean map? Edit: Oh yeah also I will add Huey's to Snowfox and Clear Field ... will probably wait for JF-17 to drop before I add that stuff in for next update. -

The most realistic way of doing it would be to have a bunch of recon photos accessible on the kneeboard or something but I haven't looked into doing that kind of thing. Maybe later down the track. I don't like smoke on targets :) -

Yeah I could see that one being tricky in certain planes if you are doing it for the first time. Originally that mission was an actual train and not the station, but the train caused problems so I had to take it out. If you get stuck on one like that call in a pinpoint strike on the target and watch where they bomb to learn where the target is. I will take another look at that particular target and see what I can come up with to make it more visible. -

Go back through the thread and look at the bit talking about the de-sanitizing process. If you do that the mission saves progress by itself now. -

SnowfoxUnitInterment.lua (list of the dead units) SnowfoxStaticInterment.lua (list of the dead statics) If the files have not been generated, it is likely an issue with permissions. If they don't generate, they won't write/update either so I wouldn't bother making them manually. They get put into the root DCS installation folder (not the saved games folder). -

1. The units don't get removed from the map until the mission starts, so yes they will show up on the planner ... can't do anything about that. 2. Time of day is not randomized, you can't change it once the mission starts so it is not affected by persistency. You can change the time of day to whatever you like. Go get em' -

As Trolling Thunder said, use the radio menu to call in some SEAD support, or whatever else you need. Also under radio menu is skip mission if you want to try a different target etc  -

Makes me think that it doesn't have permissions to save to the folder or something, have a look at the dcs.log file and see what it says. -

Every time an update or repair is done you will need to de-santize again. Make sure the sim is not running when you change the missionscripting.lua file. Once you have made the change and saved it, then reload the sim and try it again. Also check that SnowfoxUnitInterment.lua and SnowfoxStaticInterment.lua still exist in your DCS installation folder. Let me know how you go. -

The AAA is in set locations. At the start of play axis planes have to fly from Evreux to Caen which will take around 10 minutes or so. Allied fighters start from Saint Croix-sur-Mer so you should have seen them in the air around the base. Take a look at the F-10 map to see where they are. Dogfights typically break out on the Eastern side of Caen. Keep checking your map  -

Once you have had a look please do come back and let me know how it runs for you  -
Operation Jupiter is a persistent, open world PvE playground for the Normandy WW2 map. It is loosely based on the events of Operation Jupiters and Goodwood which were part of the Battle of Caen. This mission uses similar mechanics to what Operation Snowfox uses for the Persian Gulf map. The mission utilizes Moose functions and custom scripts which have been included in the mission file. To allow the mission to provide persistency, it is necessary to de-sanitize 'lfs' and 'io' in MissionScripting.lua. The mission will still be able to run without this, but persistency won't happen. Please note the following: - Wake turbulence has been disabled in this mission by default and enforced to save on performance, enable at your own peril - B-17 bomber missions can be enabled from the radio menu, however this will impact performance on older machines. To save on performance, the bombers will not actually drop bombs over their target areas. They are just there to represent some form of historical accuracy. There are 30 mission targets for Blue coalition. Red coalition does not have any missions aside from the "Defend" objective at this time until I see how the mission runs on people's systems. Feedback is most definately required on how it runs with and without the B-17 missions running. When the B-17's are up, there will be a flight of 12 bombers that fly over Caen. This is on top of the various dogfights that will spring up all over the joint. Also, I had a lot of ideas for adding sounds and music but I've had to back out of the idea due to potential copyright concerns. Also the only WWII module not included in the mission is the I-16, simply because I don't own it. Download here: https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/3306695/

Update is ready! Special thanks to Freakshow85 whose help has been invaluable the last few days testing the new target report, and testing Operation Jupiter :) Changelog v117 - Target report major overhaul, now includes 'precise' coords for your JDAM/JSOW requirements - Drop-tanks added to default loadout for all F-16's Edit: Operation Jupiter has been submitted for approval. Fingers crossed. -

Honestly I have no idea what happens. There is a fair chance that it might upset the AI A2A Dispatcher and cause all further spawns and engagement orders to break. Feel free to test your plan and report back on what happens :) -

The target report will have DMS values back to 0 decimal places, DDM to 3 decimal places and now DMSDS outputs (for your Hornet JDAM needs) in the next update. I have to thank Zyfr for his assistance and code getting DMSDS to work! To be honest I hadn't been paying attention to the values for DMS and had not noticed it had gone to 3 decimal places by accident. -

Next update will give back the fuel tanks to the F-16's since we can jettison them now, and bring fixes to the target report. Also Pakistan will be blue coalition instead of red (for when a certain plane gets released). In terms of precise coordinates it's a bit tricky as there isn't an available function to convert the data into DDMMSSDS format. You could always do it manually by calculating the decimal minutes value and multiplying by 60. I do share your pain though so I will see if I can work out how to get the data into DDMMSSDS. Edit: Looks like something changed with the DMS coordinate function somewhere along the line and it's spitting out extra numbers. I'll look into it. -

Just keep requesting SEAD support via radio and send wave after wave of your own men at the enemy SAM's, eventually they'll knock them out :pilotfly:
