  1. To train, if you want to learn handling. I would say to use the Mig-21 with gun ammo only .... no missile. By doing this, you will learn to maneuver in tight corner, which is usually the case for the F-5. The F-5 has a tighter turn rate than the Mig-21, but the Mig-21 is faster. You will learn a LOT by doing this. I have MANY aircraft, but the F-5 is my favorite. It's the perfect period ... between the old 1960's era .... and 1990+ computer filled techno machine. You will love it.
  2. Yeah it has been said by Wag not so long ago (probably also reported in this long thread somewhere) that they hired a developer FULL TIME only to work on this. So yes its coming :) You know what would be awesome ... Version 3.0 of DCS with updated lighting engine, Vulcan API and the dynamic campaign in the same release. I think I would take 2 weeks off from work lol.
  3. LOLl I would not want to be part of the crew that goes thru an A-10 run on their tank ... armor penetrated or not. I am pretty sure the survivors of this grew a LOT of white hair shortly after the strike.

  5. Yeah Falcon 4 campaign was ahead of its time for sure. Me too spent countless hours looking at the war evolving. Nothing is funnier at night to come back from work, turn on the sim, and do some flight to clear out some areas of the map. Having things evolving between flight is priceless. It brings an OLE NEW EXPERIENCE. I am sure 100% that the dynamic campaign will bring lot of business to ED. Few of my friend played the game, but not for long ...saying "Yeah nice plane and fight, but where is the game". If you are not in building your own mission or browsing forum to get the good mission, then you are quite empty handed. I do play a LOT with scripting and the editor ... and I noticed that it will be tough for ED to have a good dynamic campaign without proper AI. I am quite sure that they are struggling with the campaign because of this. I think that they will need to have stronger AI first (since many units are moving thru that war), to later then spawn them, task them and persist them inter-mission.
  6. Yeah as I said I was new to the A-10 ...so I was testing things. Ironically, in the back of my mind, I was always "questioning" the fact that a 30mm gun could go thru that thick of armor and kill tanks. After reading all this now, it does make sense to use the GAU-8 against everything else and only in last resort against tanks. Mavericks are doing a hell of a job against those anyway. This forum is a bless, thanks for all the good info guys. Wonder if those tanks will one day have a real damage model instead of HP. That would be a BLAST. Cannot image what DCS will be in 20 years from now.
  7. Ok just did another series of test. Turn out that it seems way easier to kill it from the back of the tank like you mentioned. But even there, you need a LOT of round. But I was able to do it. What is ironic though is that I can do damage from the front as well now (but not as much as from the rear), which I was not able to do yesterday. Go figure ... Thanks for your help guys! LONG LIVE THE A-10!
  8. I tried from few angles around the tank, usually coming from 5000 feet or so. I will try again to attack from higher angle to see if it will help here. Nice read! Thanks man! Always like to stumble on articles like that! I will go crazy tonight and will report back here. If I still can't I will post the track so you guys could comment.
  9. Hi guys, I bought the A-10C last winter during a sale and left it brand new in the hangar for few months. Did not fly it once ... I was busy with other aircraft. But I started to fly it last weekend and LOVE that beast so far. Lot to learn from it, but it goes in pretty well. Here is my question: I am quite proficient with the GAU-8 for many targets, but I am not able to kill tank with it AT ALL. If I set an old T-72 and fill it with bullet, I see sparks flying everywhere ... but the left damage status labels never shows any damage. I tried to come closer and closer ... and literally send dozens on rounds right on it ... nothing. What am I missing? I am using Combat Mix ammo, which I understand is a mix of armor piercing and explosive ammo.

  11. Do not mean to sound negative here, but I also want the OP to be aware of this side of the medal. I bought all choppers in a complete chopper package last year. I love them all, except the Gazelle. I don't know if you already have the Huey or MI-28 ... but if you do, you will hate the Gazelle. The chopper is fine in many areas, but the flight model feels like Arma 3. It is not polished to the level you would expect in DCS. Many people feel the same way. Even though people will argue on this, you will have no other choice than agree that the developers stay silent on any request from the community to simply answer if: A. They are aware of the issue and work on it. or B. They stand their ground and say the flight model is precise. But if you like simple flying around where inertia is never felt, then you may like it. Some guys does. But if you are a hardcore rotor head ... I don't think that you will. Again, I do not mean to offend anyone. I want the OP to be aware of that large chunk of the community that feel the same way.
  12. Yep this is what I did. It does work. Th only drawback is that it freezes the game for few seconds when it is called. So you better call it right at the beginning of the mission. So it looks like the mission is loading. I did not notice though if new one will spawn later on. I did not test this yet.

    Mig-21 Sound busted

    Guys is there a sound pack as a mod to make the Mig-21 external sound nicer. That aircraft is a blast and the interior sounds are also really good. However, the external sounds are just atrocious. They feel like place holder from the early alpha days that were never developed. I am pretty sure someone/somewhere did a mod for better sounds. But I found nothing in the User Files section of the web site. Aware of something?
  14. However, ED should add a property to every files added to the upload section where the modder would say on which version the mod was tested. They could also update it with the edit function. If not, the section will get filled with legacy mods that no longer work and people would lose trust to download from there.
  15. Holy hell! Feel like I was at an Air Show! Man it is by far the best sound editing in DCS so far. ED should hire you to redo all aircraft sound effects! I would rip an arm off if you would come out with a package for the Mig-21 as well! This red side bird classic was SO left behind as far as sound goes.
  16. As I said in another thread, this is s war simulation. So I still do not get how AI can be put in such low priority. What you fight is indeed the reason why you play the game in the first place. From what we see, the majority of players play in Single Player. So they need to deal with this AI in every gaming session. I don't know how many time I just cancelled a mission project because the AI was useless, therefore completely ruining the mission challenge in the first place. Then to try a different setup ... to later conclude the same thing again. I can get that F-18 shooting missiles at each other from 40 miles away can mostly live with this AI. But what about an Apache attacking a convoy, a mig-21 sneaking on you to give you a close dogfight or having your wingman accepting the most simple order. 9 time out of 10, if I rely on the AI, it will end up like "what the heck is he doing?". Aircraft throwing themselves in mountain's cliff, chopper randomly spinning on themselves, wingman refusing to attack target that are right below you, aircraft raming each other on the runway ... and so on. Would like to see a release with a strong AI revamp. Please put at least a basic brain in the units we are fighting if we are going to play SP.

  18. Put a chopper like an AH-64 in a mountains region and watch it try to attack a target. You would bet that Jim Carrey in dumb and dumber is piloting the aircraft. I know that AI stuff can be hazardous, but in DCS it is not even serious. Wonder why people are not more outraged by it.

  20. Hi guys, was watching few F-14 video on youtube recently. Jester constant blabla can get old pretty fast in heavily populated area. Do not get me wrong it is a nice feature, but could we completely shut him off with a script command or something?

  22. Hi guys, is there a way to completely disable the user input in the cockpit? Example: At the beginning of my mission, I want the player to listen to the instructor for a minute before taking control. During that period, I would like him not to able to do anything. Can it be done? (Thru the editor or scripting) For some reason, I remember seeing it in a a training mission somewhere. But I can't for the love of god remember where. Thanks

  25. Hi guys, I was reading a thread this morning about someone complaining on the AI. So I did some research and found some single/multi player thread ... but nothing that would bring some numbers. Briefly, let's pull some number here ... Where do you spent most of your time when you play DCS? Single player or multiplayer?
