Would be the expected thing when they suddenly get a satisfactory negotiation result from the partners (or get acquired :music_whistling:). Some of these helicopters have a really long history in Belsimtek/ED plans.

Anybody has ideas how to debug the Windows 10 sound architecture when SRS can't initialize? When I click audio preview or try to connect, SRS reports "Problem initialising Audio Input" and suggests it might be a privacy setting problem, then exists. Talked with Ciribob way back and he was helpless with this as Windows doesn't give us any indication what's wrong. Looks like it's seen as a sound application as it briefly appears in the Apps & Volume settings page too. What I've done so far in trying to fix: Obviously, check that the microphone privacy setting (Windows messed it up in April update?) is OK The microphone is selected for the recording device in Windows settings Edited the registry entry directly Run as admin Check that exclusive access to mic is off in sound settings (doesn't work if it's on either) Installed manually and re-installed Turn off antivirus Try different microphones, including one that's analog Trying with dedicated soundards, the first from 20+ years back is not supported by 64-bit windows, trying to locate the others... Didn't have Thrustmaster when I started with SRS so probably not that either (some people have had trouble with CH management software etc). Ciribob has tested with the same soundchip that is on my system too... It's very weird when all other recording software starting from TeamSpeak has basically worked out of the box for decades  Would it be possible to create a listen-only mode to the software? Currently it kind of degrades its own function by forcing an exit.

missing info Low Resistance of Mi-8
Varis replied to edokg's topic in DCS: Mi-8MTV2 Magnificent Eight
Ka-50 seems to take 2-3 mistral missiles to shoot down (hits) while the Mi-8 generally is done with just 1. Haven't tried to compare to the western helicopters or AI units. -
Thanks again to Alpenwolf & 104th for the great tournament & streaming! The terrain was maybe the most interesting of all yet, even with all that water (which however saw lots of action) and some possibilities still left unused. Many amazing and tense moments... by the time ECV56_Fortinero defeated the mistral and proceeded to dismember the opponent with his Mi-8, and still had time to put the sunglasses on before being torn to bits by a different Gazelle, my faith in the viability of the Mi-8 was completely restored :matrix: Also the rocket attack in the beginning... didn't see that one coming!

Must be the juiciest weekend news I've seen so far. Nimitz-class aircraft carrier? You must be nuts. They seem to be headed the right direction with pretty much everything  :pilotfly: SRS sadly doesn't work for everyone due to issues in Windows sound support and whatnot. Hopefully official implementation will fix that - could be interesting to see if they cab provide some improved features too?

Sauce for the goose, Mr.Alpha… even the numbers don't matter that much, both sides have a bunch of very experienced pilots and a number of distinct advantages... It will be a great match for sure :pilotfly:
-
Yeah a lot of us have just been happily using it. I guess the new cockpit will be nice though, now that I've experienced the newer modules :)

Steam is doing something right... Haven't they been working on a dedicated server for a while?

Just being average in DCS is an impressive achievement I think... working on that myself :worthy:

One small step at a time. Go slow and go fun. Maybe establish some kind of a vague plan/goals and share that with us. Stick to one platform. Unless you're the kind of person who craves variety, in which case, obviously do not. You don't need that many buttons to just fly the aircraft. Does flying work fine for you? Obviously helicopters and fixed wing are very different, pick the one that interests you the most and maybe learn the basics with that first. Also... you've picked the most complicated plane in the simulator and the most complicated helicopter in the sim as well... if you actually want to use the weapon systems etc. Autostart can be a good idea. Also learn the different camera views like F3, helps tons with helicopters. FC3 aircraft can be nice in the beginning, up to you what you want. Anyway... welcome to the club and I hope you'll have a good time! :smilewink:

You could probably set them to attack your unit as a waypoint action? Saw that in the menus but haven't tried it. Though I'd suspect the M model to have a bit of difficulty in engaging air targets.
-
There's probably an updated from ED around where they explain how to claim codes/whatnot. If you buy, go for Persian Gulf as that's getting popular and will have good mission support from the community. Nevada has the SP Red Flag campaigns some of which are apparently very good.
-
Try if you can recover your ED account if that fails contact support. You can buy a 500GB Samsung SSD for quite cheap. Harrier is still a bit bugsy. Viggen and any of the helicopters are solid modules but there are other good buys as well, obviously the F-14 and eventually F-18 will be great experiences. Many other good picks too. Don't miss the WW2 and Korean side (hope the latter would get more love than just aircraft) are not to be missed today. Pick Combined Arms from a sale if you don't have it. Might be more useful in the future though the UI isn't the greatest still. DCS has come a long way in those years and much more is planned but might take 5 years to realize!

Would be nice to hear of the era function, is it in 4 tiers (https://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=3699300&postcount=1) or by year? Also what's up with dem bommers... just AI of course (now let's not get carried away).

A paid mission pack that caters to all and especially new players in multiplayer? Or a community COOP server with ED sponsorship? 1 module of your choosing to gift every month you run it? Or something like that. DCS Finland has one guy who creates missions like these (and a few others doing the stuff occasionally). There are challenges like learning the scripting or making a mission where everyone has something to shoot when the platforms vary by capability, mission type, cruising speed and usable range. He's still doing a hell of a good job. Most people don't have the motivation and that's a problem. A bit of official focus from ED could help out the multiplayer scene.
-
Counted I have a total of 18 platforms to learn. Fly 2 of them actively. Changes from month to month. The only aircraft I can make some use of in an actual mission. But a couple more are useful for that boring day when you just want to wipe off the dust from an old friend lying in the hangar. It was a smart move to get all the helicopters. One jet I still haven't touched at all. I blame the earlier late autumn sale from ED. And oh yes I couldn't do without any of my three maps and CA is a core engine feature!

Is that AI+GUI also coming to Mi-8 and Huey then? Interesting piece...

Transfer of knowledge / code between HB and Eagle
Varis replied to Koriel's topic in Heatblur Simulations
I think there are two hurdles. First is organizing the code transfer (process, contracts, compensation etc - may be the easiest to do the Belsimtek way ie. complete acquisition). Second is that code usually is very context specific ie. created for one product or family of products. Making it work with other modules might take a bit. -
Would go with something that has proven sound quality. I somehow end up with Koss Portapro + Logitech table microphone... good but very cheap... Sennheiser + Beyerdynamics are usually the options but of course they can be much more expensive.
-
Welcome! Obviously the Ka-50 could be interesting as it fills the same role pretty much. Also the Gazelle is a blast to fly and may be more enjoyable.

Syrian and Afghan theatre of operations confirmed!
Varis replied to WHOGX5's topic in Bugs and Problems
The terminology seems to shift a bit in DCS/multiplayer... Cold War ends up being something like the 70's or maybe early 80's (Viggen-Tomcat-Mig21), modern day is 80s-90s, Vietnam, Korea... What are those? You mean some Low Intensity/COIN stuff? Read https://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=3699300&postcount=1 for more context/analysis. -
Orbital zero G combat simulation module in DCS
Varis replied to DmitriKozlowsky's topic in DCS Core Wish List
There have actually been a number of games over the decades that implemented more or less (often less) Newtonian mechanics and were quite fun to play. Elite is reported as fun for combat by a few players. The one slash between hours of maneuver thing can be a real issue if the game doesn't make concessions. I find faster-than-light drives being a very decent compromise but I bet Wags is spilling his coffee at the mention of them... we're probably still a few years off from before ED can complete the Nevada module as full fidelity  Exactly! Nobody wants a game where you spend more time learning the ship systems and acquiring targets with sensors than what the actual flying and shooting part takes. Electronic targeting systems, radar or weapons that just fly to the target on their own are very boring... let us fight with our mark I eyeballs, shooting rockets between the eyes of each other and deciding the fight by who pulls the stick the most! -
What I'm quite happy this time with how ED phrased their expectations for 2019, Rather than how it was the previous year, many projects listed "for 2018" and most were not delivered during the year. I think it (possibly) created some false expectations and wasn't up to ED's usual communication standard. As said... the next newsletter is likely even more interesting! The aircraft usually get much hype and attention, and most of what was in the newsletter we basically already know. (In part thanks to the very open communication from Razbam!) The world around - it's usually where DCS is a bit weaker, but it can still be very important because it brings value to every module. Engine upgrades, fixes to old small things (which just the most long term fans seem to appreciate, having suffered from them for so many years), supporting modules like CA and the upcoming dynamic campaign (looks like it will be a big thing, but still a few years off I think).
-
If you look at the unofficial roadmap from Silver Dragon, it looks like the Cobra is going to take even longer. (And Silver Dragon is an optimist.) I feel sorry for the fans of that module. For Mi-24, no offense but I think the people in that thread got what they were asking for. There is no way around the wait. I hope we get more information later on but likely even Wags and guys don't have much of an idea about release dates and such yet. Much of hard work needs to be still done and I really appreciate what big or little things ED are doing for the benefit of us rotorheads. (The Ka-50 update isn't an insignificant thing either, but personally I feel we are more missing the world around the helicopters rather than more and better helicopters - basically each of the 4 we currently have is already great in its own personal way.)
-
Yeah, honestly I was a bit disappointed because I thought (from the recent comms) they were much farther with the project. Probably we'll get the next pieces of hype somewhere in Fall 2019. Of course it's possible that for some strange reason the cockpit textures just aren't ready. Or that they plan to pick up steam with the project but I think that's even less likely. If you give in to wishful thinking you're going to have an extremely painful journey with DCS. The better terrain meshes and trees or whatnot is already in the engine and being used today. Come to think of it if they continue these improvements then helicopters can be quite interesting in DCS. And possibly with CA + dynamic campaign being upgraded. Going to take a few years at least … you can dream but remember what I said on wishful thinking ;) Mi-24 being intended for multicrew is a very positive note for almost any DCS player though!
