Change 2016 - 2017 seems very abrupt otherwise there is almost no random variation. (Graph should be a bit different too since it's cumulative data and you're mainly interested in the difference.) I'd say they just changed their order numbering scheme :music_whistling: 2016+2017+2018 can't have been bad for DCS though.

Orbital zero G combat simulation module in DCS
Varis replied to DmitriKozlowsky's topic in DCS Core Wish List
I think it's a different market + platform. There are news of satellite interception missiles but much of it would need to be highly fictional. -

Not the whole story: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aérospatiale_Gazelle#Syria If you're less of a purist, just Syria alone operates SA342, Mi-8MT, Mig-29, L-39 as well as the upcoming Mi-24 and Mig-23. Reportedly L-39 saw combat usage. Historic aircraft have included Supermarine Spitfire Mk 22s, MiG-15bis and Mig-19. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Syrian_Air_Force -
Lovely!

A good point. Although would think we have a better array of Turkish, Russian, Syrian aircraft currently in the game than Israeli. Not sure what to think of the map - in a way it is wrong to make it while the conflict is still ongoing. On the other hand there are numerous historical conflicts which are relevant to the map. -
Yeah strange if there is no standard as it's a frequent issue to developer and player alike. I mean besides optimizing frequently, ED are also running a standard performance test to every build that has significant changes... they must be doing that right? Some use low level flight in fixed wing in the center of Dubai as a stress test, the lowest scores are of interest there.

Not crazy enough to want it or he/she doesn't have that many? FWIW there is also this :smilewink: https://forums.eagle.ru/forumdisplay.php?f=144

I take campaigns are usually made by extremely small teams. Also they don't receive that much hype. I'd think F-14 and F-18 campaigns have been mentioned but never were the focus of attention.
-
Somehow I like the sound of that  Was thinking you might get them for completing objectives on the dynamic campaign :music_whistling: I hope there will be more bonus point special sales, with map bundles and what not.

To be honest it sounds a bit odd in a sandbox game. Not to mention most DCS customers probably aren't looking for the typical game experience. (Although, most new customers probably come with a wrong mindset in some way or another.)
-
Might be a good one. AFAIK the number of serving Su-34 aircraft is small, maybe Sukhoi has had trouble selling them. But I understood the plan is also to introduce more of them, unless that deal has gone bad somehow. So depending on that we probably need to wait between 10 to 40 years before we see them in DCS. Will Su-27 still have a long service life ahead? I'd think Mig-29A is already retired so we might see that as the first one.

FC3 successor for new players who don't have the skillbase to learn high-fidelity aircraft quickly. (Or people who insist on modern Russian aircraft outside of helicopters.)
-
FC3 (and the upcoming successor/extension MAC next year) is pretty much the only bundle out there, the others are the occasional special offers. An alternative is to go for older planes, or trainers - more simple systems than modern front-line craft, so easier to pick up, but much to learn and master and they have theis place in a number of scenarios. Also all the helicopters are very good and can be a great way to start your rotary wing career. Only the Kamov has somewhat complicated systems, I would say, but it's the only true full blown attack helicopter too. Each of the four helicopters is different with its own personality and will appeal most to different people.

There's more to DCS than people see at first sight. Picking up a vintage aircraft or a helicopter (all options are good) can open a whole new world/perspective in DCS. F5 and Mirage are both good options. In the end you'll likely have "everything" :) The F-18 but it still lacks a few of the crown jewels, TWS mode for the A2A buffs for example.

More are in the plans / under work; there are official statements from ED - and also dedicated threads exist in the dedicated subforum ;)
-
Waiting patiently as always. Thanks for the good work. Have a nice and prosperous new year 2019! Will probably get back to the Viggen as my first fixed wing once I need a break from some of the helicopters.

You can find more answers in the other threads on the subject. It's also possible to migrate between the versions to a degree, but less so as time goes by.

Strange - usually people complain there are too many modules (over 30). My impression was that DCS is actually very good when it comes to systems modelling (sims didn't use to go too deep into them). A-10C and F-18 I believe have/will have targeting pods etc. Try out the A-10C or Mi-8 and report back if you still think there isn't enough content/detail modelled. More SEAD/e-war platforms could be nice but I guess that tends to be more hush hush stuff. Kind of like the world's militaries want to advertise their capability to "blow up ur stuff" but not how they do it. I wonder if all the above answered your concerns, at least a number of reasons were touched for it. Hope this didn't turn into a bash the newbie thread :smilewink:

missing info Low Resistance of Mi-8
Varis replied to edokg's topic in DCS: Mi-8MTV2 Magnificent Eight
Hmm that's an interesting point of view. I guess there's a bunch of things in ED & partners damage models which are weird, incomplete, or not fine tuned. From the Hawk that could tank several missiles to mistral (vikhr?) hits that apparently score no damage... Also the story could often be more interesting and refined than what you think. Just read the Mills book - an OH-6 littlebird was basically flying over the enemy base camp for hours at low altitude and low speeds. Reportedly some 30 bullet holes from AK-47 (7.62mm?) and the thing was still flying fine. It depends a lot on your luck and where it hits. Mills was also shot down a couple of times. What I understand of Mi-8/Mi-24 survivability it's mostly due to it being empty space. Probably goes to the Huey as well. -
Was a bit more perplexed with this statement. Waiting makes development sense and also they may need to make decisions - I just hope they haven't tied their hands too much. What we've seen of Gazelle multicrew (L model etc) has been quite nice. Let's hope that ED + HB can figure things out so it will all be brighter by Christmas 2019.

Yeah they do feel very smooth and precise. Not sure if it's the pedals or more the throttle/HOTAS that makes a difference but the last few weeks I've been flying almost entirely just helicopters, it's a pleasure and even on the first try I nailed the nosewheel take off and the landing with Mi-8. Should probably try some games for ground vehicles... are your controllers of much use with CA? I've just increased spring tension to 30mm but think that's more than enough, would add just more strain to reach the extreme deviation. My chosen CAM and other settings probably are pretty much optimal, there's little benefit in changing. Could maybe decrease brake tension by one notch, not sure of the same for pedal angles they seem quite ok-ish. How the tension feels with current settings there's a smallish area in the middle with a more tense spring, quickly the tension decreases and there's the large area with mild tension until close to the very end of the movement range it stiffens somewhat again. Think I'll just fine tune it a bit lower to find the balance of required tension and a light touch. I guess a fine-tuned CAM could still improve things in a minor way but that could be very subjective how much benefit it brings. Durability and configurability probably add quite a bit to resale value.

This must be the #1 most asked question on the forum. Just on this subforum there must be about a dozen of these threads from the past 2 months or so :smilewink: Please go and review the existing threads - you will already find many answers there and tons of different viewpoints, PLUS you'll be able to tell us some (more or less) obvious additional information like what you really want, what you are expecting from DCS, what's your planned approach and what's your background etc. I can't believe nobody actually wrote a decent buyer's guide yet... Steam DOES get the early access stuff, might just take a while since ED feels a bit quality conscious about releasing stuff to Steam. I think the Open beta branch is also available via Steam. Anyway, it's worth its separate thread... of which there are a few lying around, as well :smilewink:

Could there be options to disable certain aircraft features for mission makers to emulate a particular era? Ie. no RWR for your Mig-21s today. I think we already have this for loadouts since quite a few are banned on given multiplayer servers.

Thank you, today you have given me hope :D And Zhukov too… I hope you guys had a nice Christmas time :smilewink:
