  1. @Avil - Make sure you set the CB for the OBOGS unit so that you can breath at those altitudes. Air starts to get rather thin. @Rhen - that comment was on the maintenance side not the flight side.
  2. Blue I didnt blow it off, it popped a capacitor. SO I replaced the capcitor but the pilot was a dick. By the way did I add the part that he caused the cap to pop.... We dont have to deal with FAA in military Aviation. I have never ever blown off a gripe and not investigated or fixed the discrepancy to the fullest. A very good friend of mine, a hornet driver flew into a moutain at nellis because of a faulty mission computer. I would never ever want a pilot or crewmans death on my hands. Civil and military are way different bro.
  3. Well that all depended on who was in maintenance. Usually those got as far as the analyst and then it was kicked back to be fixed. But occasionally they went up. I only ever saw one guy get in trouble for that and that was because he called the pilot a friggin idiot on the Form and used the not so nice words.
  4. well that and then telling the squadron CO to get the !@#$ off of my airplane when I was sweating my arse off fixing a gripe that had been on the plane for a year. I earned my callsign that day. A pat on the back for a good job and an arse chewing for telling the CO to get the !@#$ off of the plane. True story. in my defense I didnt know it was the CO and it was 130 degrees inside the tube and I was laying in a pool of my own sweat. ;)
  5. Now that would be awesome GG. Funniest gripe I ever saw, "Smoke came out of control box" So I signed it off "Put Smoke back in. Unit checks RFI IAW MIMS" (Ready For Issue In Accoradnce With Maintenance Instruction Modules)
  6. Then I have to kick your ass for the hard landing inspection I have to do :P
  7. You break em we fix em.... AND I STILL SAY ITS NOT EEEGGGEEEEE. IT's Eee-Gee-I (Aye)
  8. No understimation in sim accuracy. I am just saying that doing it for real is different. ofcourse i have only seen a producer note so please take it at the base level and i mean no insult. I reserve final judgement until i get hands on
  9. I was approached about F-18 mod for lock on way back when to do some tech assist on but at the time i couldnt because of my active duty status. Wish to hell I had so i could be flyin with you fellas ;)
  10. well fully prepped and serviced. yah maybe. if they can figure out the throttles for engine start....
  11. EtherealN here is a question for you. What would you have to remove during the safety walk around to facilitate flight? Not meaning this to be smart but throwing out a general requirement. There are many saftey pins and things that have to be removed not just the remove before flight pins on the ordnance. This is meant strictly rhetorical. i am not poking jabs just pointing out.
  12. The most painful thing I ever did in my life was get in the SH-3 Sim at NAS Jax. I crashed and I had bruises for weeks. :)
  13. Maybe so but the real life hands on flight dynamics are way different. and I doubt you would even get the aircraft enignes started. There are many things that have to be done before flight. Not just open the canopy and pull down the ladder. Read the real deal again.
  14. No Sir I was not a pilot by trade but that is only because i did not have the vision requirements. So I went the next best route. I became a master maintainer. Then eventually an avionics engineer.
  15. Ok as far as jumping into an a10 this simulator is going to be detailed and functional. but in no means accurate. There are two many systems that are NOFORN (No Foriegn Dissemination) or Classified (Confidential, Secret, Top Secret). The avionics beyond basic flight aids would be useless with out an OFP load from the ground crew. Also bringing a compressor online invoilves a few more things in reality. Flight skills Maybe. Basic flight and instrumentation is simular. As for Landing. If you understand landing wieghts and fuel load distribution and vertical speed rates for landing then maybe. but most likely you end up like that picture. The real deal. You have to know how to do a before flight check. too many pins and flags that need to be removed. A hog pilot will go to basic flight school. he/she starts on a prop aircraft with an instructor and gets basic flight then moves to a jet trainer. Here they spend many simulator hours where they go through all sorts of emergency scenarios and practice with actual equipment in the pit(Simulator). After solo and advance platform training they goto final platform school. This is where they start A10 Fam & I. They learn systems and the aircraft. Then they start flight training. All of this takes about 2-3 years. The school names escape me since i was navy. However the route is the same. Also they all goto SERE training before the intial deployment So fellas you dream, and let the real thing goto the boys in the green flight suits.
  16. http://www.rockwellcollins.com/ecat/gs/graphics/arc210a.jpg The arc 210 antennas are black. That is how we know. the farther aft antenna is an AN/APX-118 or 122/123 IFF TRansponder antenna. You stay in the pit i will keep em flyin.....
  17. 22 years of what. I have been in the buisinees now for 25 years but i did 20 years in the us navy. 5 as a contractor... Is that what you meant? I wasnt trying to toot a horn but rather to qualify an opinion.
  18. ok GG pls correct me if i am wrong. Sounds- Been around these engines for 20 years. To accurately model a real engine perfectly lets just say the hardware isnt avail yet. The engine sounds in the a10 in the videos are DAMN close. Now I am sure some of you are arguing from a knowledge base. But I assure you it is not 20 years of aviation maintenance. I will be more interested to hear betty and the master caution tone. FC2- Compatability. Having had to write sowftware for maintence of items I understand some of the issues. I am by far no expert but i think you all are over simplifying things. it is more than just reporting positions. The "Engines" have to be fully compatable for a stable game play platform. I would rather see FC2 not get ported over to get a stable platform for 8-16 people to be able to fly online. I remember F4, Superpack, and AF and the random drops because the developers tried to fufill to many community desires instead of making the product stable. Simulation comparisons- Trying to say that FC2 is comparable to the DCS series is like saying driving a go kart is the same as driving a nascar. or flying and RC plane is the same as flying a 747. I mean REALLY REALLY!!! Lets all put the claws away and let ED do what they do!!!
  19. GG hit it on the head. In a functional realistic cockpit you are going to be extremely busy. I feel for those that are going to be learning this pit. will be a steeper learning curve that the shark in my opinion
  20. In my humble opinion. Put the time in a combined campaign for the dcs series. Even a dynamic campaign at a later date. FC2 is already dated and showing its age for a newer product that it is. That is not a slam on FC2. FC2 is a great line in its own. I have played everything from the original su-25 to lock on to fc1 and on. If someone is making a decision this early to not play a game then they are half cocked and should be left to their own devices and not for us to debate. As for WOW I play it and will stop when A10 is released for I plan to rebuild my pit and get back into fulltime flying. Scabs
  21. yes evon i agree. it is gonna be some fun times ahead
  22. GG all i was saying is the round pipper is not for a-a gun fighting, just that they have a gun funnel. and I didnt say the a10 couldnt try and fight a fast mover i am saying they wouldnt. it is not the design of the aircraft to be a fighter hence the A-10 and not F-10. The AIM-9X has a 180+ degree seeker and can track a target. but the turning radius is attrocious so if you dont lock at 2 miles or release uncaged at 3 (if not a straight shot) it can easily be spoofed. Now a radar guided missle at 35 miles with AJ technology can lock you then lock your jammer.... dead A-10. Pyro it is not about out running as much as what cat said in keeping him busy till help arrives. But for A-10 tactics the terrain following capability of the 10 is awesome and the pilot can get down in the weeds. A missle will have a hard time holding a lock with all of the ground clutter. Sorry if I ruffled anyones feathers. I hear though you guys have em numbered for any such occasion and you can put em back in place :)
  23. The only sim with all of the secret squirell Stuff is the one that is a full blown cockpit sim. Stuff like that is for as stated before to train navigation and general procedures. I totally miss working at Oceana with my hornets. Had plenty of hours in the F?A-18C SIM.
  24. The pipper is not slaved in the A-10C an A-A gun fight is not in the operating envelope of the platform. Now a strafing run with the gun on helicopters or slow movers maybe. but as for fast movers the only hope is the esm showing a threat and reacting early. As for the the POD yes it can designate targets and the AIM-9 can be haded off to set a heat lock. However loosing an uncaged seeker at max delta is your best hope to cut and run till friendly fast movers can intercept.
