  1. is there any work to re integrate the tutorials with out having to uninstall the patch. this is most annoying
  2. being an avionics guy I was literally drawn to the realism of the falcon mods and eventually AF. I flew with the 16th for a while and was a training officer teaching newbies how to ramp start and to use the avionics and aircraft systems. I love that game. I have been a flightsim nut since Microprose F-19. and played almost every notable sim since.
  3. my reply wasnt specifically the sim but a real world reference for ease fo understanding
  4. slayer: We have mobile nav points that can be setup and taken down in about 5 mins. I was an operator in desert shield/storm. back pack sized 2 man team one with the transmitter and one with the battery pack and antenna. As for tacan, the modern tacan has a range of 389 miles for DME or distance. The bearing is quite a bit more. So having a complete hole is not true. The older or previous gen tacan had a range of 300 miles. Oscar: GPS is downloaded directly to the aircraft from satelite. The INS is self contained and records from flight start. If both are lost there is a standby compass and the pilots have maps. Also based on the new systems the flight plans can be updated in flight. The somputers are dual redundant so if you lose one MC there is a back up system to maintain the aircraft in a mission capable state.
  5. Is anyone actively flying during the evenings eastern standard time. I would like to hook up and get better with the shark and have some fun.
  6. well I normally go by gator. it is the callsign I earned while in the navy. However gator was not available on the forums and I currently do not have any squadron affiliations. Not since the 14th Tophatters in Janes F/A-18.
  7. welcome back wags. gotta love the FOD holders.
  8. actually looks like it might be from a no power sign or hud shroud. I know we used to tie things to those arms for those reasons. probably modeled in by mistake.
  9. naw thats the new beer can holders. that is the deluxe model with two.
  10. kaiza not trying to troll or bicker. last post was meant in jest only. being navy we always poke at the airforce bubbas... :) Viper I flew with/against a viper in janes thought it might be you.
  11. Roger that. I work at NG as well. interesting to hear someone calls it that. must be a zoomie. LOL No disrespect to matt. he has done phenominal work. Ofcourse my 20 years was on the navy side. so I could be wrong and eggy could be an airforce thing. Viper did you fly Janes F/A-18?
  12. MIDS now incorporates the tacan transmitter. here is a link of functions. Although it says option. It gives a nice weight reduction to combine the TACAN and MIDS. and as for the EGI. Those that call it an eggy are obviously not in the industry ;) For 22 years I have never heard Eggy.
  13. i had 20 people running flacon af on the korea campaign on my 2006 deployment. We had a ball when not fixing the avionics in our aircraft flying the falcon. we even had a few pilots that joined in. Black shark is an awesome sim. I like it alot as well.
  14. also tell matt that the EGI is not pronounced e-gee.....lol just the letters themselves. EGI
  15. not saying mids would be there but mids supplies the function of tacan. just elaborated for system interface for the masses to understand.
  16. guys from watching the producers note with the ramap start i saw that they have integrated the NAV EGI or Navigation Embedded GPS Inertial Navigation System. The Nav EGI will work hand in hand with the MIDS (Multifunctional Information Display System). The MIDS will provide all TACAN functions and the UHF radio will provide the VOR functions.
  17. I loved the walk through. Being an avionics engineer there is one thing that is bothering me. during the start up you refer'd to the EGI and E-gi(phonetic). We call that the E-G-I as in letter called out. Other wise spot on Wags. I am drooling over this sim. I am now in process of setting up a pit again. so I am telling my wife it is all your fault....lol:megalol: Also are you modeling in alignment times for the Inertial navigation portion of the EGI system. I believe it is 8 minutes for the system to align and be ready for use.
  18. Sorry guys but this video is faked. The plane he is flying has a single vert stab. and the canapy does not have the correct skeleton.
  19. having worked on fighters and military aircraft for 20 years the A-10 will be a walk in the park.
  20. ok i have modman i have it installed in c:\modman when i click down load mods it opens the checksix site. now what. where do i save the addons and how do i get them to show in madman. I have ventrilo if someone wants to help me figure this out. thanks Scabbs
  21. thanks guys, i am an experienced pilot from falcon and Janes F/A-19 as well as longbow and EECH. I tried modman. but I am on vista and MODMAN deonst like vista. so anyway. Got the take offs and landings down. i am now working on some of the avionics that are new to me. I worked US NAvy Avionics when i was in the navy but rusian stuff is different to some extent.... Any suggestions for modman?
  22. Ok Guys I finally got a copy of Black shark. Most incredible... Help a newb out. what mods do i need and is there a mod to manage patching black shark. Also does anyone have a good x45 profile that i can get? Thanks Scabbs
  23. former naval avionics tech and current avionics and flight systems engineer
  24. thanks for the correction alpha. I was just commenting on the basics from the aircraft that I work with. Just wanted to give the gentleman a little better understanding. thanks
  25. bleed air for anti-ice is usually taken off of the 12th or 14th stage blled air from the main turbine. It is then routed through a conditioner since the bleed air is about 750 degrees. aftet the conditioner it is brought down to approximately 250 degrees. The apu is only ever used for aux power and turbine start compressed air.
