Yes I'm serious, but I should have been more specific - I was referring to initial release dates, not patches/additional features. PG map and F18 released on time IIRC, as did the F16 (although of course it's debatable if the latter should have been delayed).

I'm quite happy to accept this was a last minute bug that caught ED out. This is the first time I can remember ED missing a release date in 10 years.
-
... now I realise how much I've spent. Thanks :D

A big thank you for the hard work tonight

Respect what work? I mean we've got an idea, but we don't have the product or much in the way of pre-release media to judge. That's not to say I think it won't be good, but how do I know? Besides, respect cuts both ways. Telling people on release day they're not getting what they paid for has clearly upset some people. -
Thought so, thanks. Will raise as a bug.
-
Should failure to do this lead to the gear not retracting? Because that doesn't happen in game right now. Thanks.

Yeah if they had to rush each new module out the door so they could fund the next one that would be bad. I don't think it's quite as bad as it seems though. The Hornet and Viper in particular haven't gone as well as everyone would have liked; however I think that ED didn't rush them out the door to fund future modules, they're doing it to fund tech development for things like AA/AG radar, proper INS, TGP, IR shaders etc. It means things are a bit rough now, but it should make the release of future modules easier and prevent this stuff from happening (at least as much). ED may have its flaws, but everything it does seems to be for the long term - at least I think so.
-
Perhaps there'd be a certain amount of effort that would need to be diverted to an SP only release, which they understandably don't want to do if they're not too far off from releasing the whole thing? Just a guess!

I have no qualms about giving ED a hard time if they screw up. I also respect your decision to no longer (pre) purchase their products if you lack the confidence in them to deliver. However I'm not sure you're basing your decision on the actual situation, including where you got 4 months from. As it stands the delay could be as much as 2 months, and these delays aren't down to features not being ready, just that they've experienced issues towards the end when they moved to large scale testing. I'd also like to note that in 10 years this is the first time I can remember them ever missing an EA release date.
-
I think you've every right to feel annoyed, and not want to buy in to EA again. However, assuming you're new to DCS and yet to explore what it has to offer, please don't give up on it entirely by uninstalling. Over the 10 years DCS has been around they've never stopped improving it. Stick with it, you'll enjoy it, and I'm sure the SC will be worth the money when we get it.
-
Sigh. That argument isn't valid, because it's ED that sets the release date. It's perfectly within their gift to set a date that they can meet that doesn't force them to release a buggy mess. Yes in this case things didn't go to plan and I'm sure ED will be more careful in future, but don't pretend that this is the customers fault for pushing them into announcing a date they couldn't meet.
-
:megalol::megalol: Actually I am! I think I picked well :D
-
But ED WANTS people to buy into EA. They're not going to encourage people to do so if they treat release dates as advisory. I've understood your point from the beginning. What I'm pointing out is that you can't tell other people they have the wrong opinion.
-
Telling people who don't like EA they shouldn't buy into it, while at the same time telling them they have no grounds to lose confidence is a contradiction and makes no sense. If people stop buying that's just about the most objective indication that confidence has been lost as you can get.
-
EA/beta/rull release, it doesn't matter. You're trying to tell people they have no grounds to lose confidence, but I'm telling you right now some already have. Whether you agree or not is completely irrelevant. You can't tell other people what their opinion should be.
-
OK but if your opinion is that advertised dates are meaningless and can't be trusted, that takes us straight back to my other point: Failure to deliver means loss of confidence and potentially loss of customers thereafter.
-
ED sets the dates that they plan to release their product in (largely) functional state. The choice of a) releasing a buggy mess on time or b) a functioning product late, is false dilemma you've created. It ignores choice c) get the date right in the first place. I don't doubt the difficulty of what ED are trying to do, but it doesn't matter. Failure to deliver means loss of confidence and potentially loss of customers thereafter. You don't have to agree with those people for it to be true.
-
I'm going to go out on a limb here and suggest blaming your customers for your own missed deadlines is probably poor business. There are new players who most certainly did NOT know what they were going for who are annoyed and may not come back; you don't get to tell them their opinion is wrong.
-
I think you're both right. You can buy modules to support the development of DCS, and still come on here to hold ED to account if they drop the ball. It doesn't have to be one or the other, you can choose
-
Really appreciated.
-
Actually, while ED have missed development goals, this is the first time I can remember them missing a release date for a new product.
-
Agreed. But no amount of you having a dig at people is going to improve their view of ED either, so please don't.
-
You are of course perfectly entitled to see it that way. However please accept that other people may not be persuaded by that argument, given a delay of potentially up to 6 weeks was unlikely to be solved at the last minute. It didn't help that only yesterday we were being told not to be pessimistic .
-
There are legitimate questions ED have to answer, starting with why they waited until release day to announce a further delay. You don't have to agree, you just have to see it from someone else's point of view. There have already been posts from new players, utterly bewildered about what's going on, and it could have all been avoided. Insulting people who raise these points helps no-one, including ED who you feel the need to 'defend'. Most people who you consider moaners don't do it for the fun of it, they just want things to be better.
-
Once it became obvious the initial release date wouldn't be met, yeah that might have been a good idea. If you're asking for people's money in advance with no date what so ever... that's probably not an option. Those who've been here some time understand the challenges ED have, but if they don't sort out their PR more casual customers are just going to give up. The fact that mods on here allow people to call those who suggest things could be done better people 'whiners' and 'manbabies' doesn't help either.
