Me too. I am using TIR5 and quite happy w/ it. I upgraded my PC 6 months ago and now everything works very well. The old PC limited things like trying MavFs. There just wasn't enough power to have a screen within a screen. I see some complaining and have to wonder. If something doesn't work there are 100s of other things to do. Thanks ED.

It happens that I haven't been flying DCS as much in the last couple of weeks so all my traps on the SC have been straight-in approaches. I am less experienced than a lot of guys here so am not able to get into all the details. What I do know is the FLOLS and the ICLS do not agree. I was thinking there may be some kind of time delay in one or the other but can't see anything to substantiate that. So I ignore the FLOLS and fly the ICLS. Also, I have never been able to see the FLOLS well enough to use it although many say it worked fine for them. And now we have this way, way oversized arcade looking thing for the upgrade. I am not impressed.

Yes they are.

Thanks guys. I guess it's been a month or so since I flew w/ MavFs so I missed that crosshair. Now that I know what it means I can make use of it. Thanks again.

I just flew yesterday a mission w/ MavF and there is a new symbol on the screen. Just a simple crosshair. It floats around generally in the middle of the screen but I can't figure what it does. At first I thought it indicated where I tried to get a lock because it sometimes seems to stick to a spot after I hit the button. But a little later that didn't seem to be the answer. Any ides what it is for?

I fly in SP in the provided missions in Caucus and PG maps. For me 7s suck. Any missions that start on the ground or carrier, I hit R for rearm, and get rid of them and install 120Cs. Missions that air start that are armed w/ 7s, I just don't fly.

LSO is kind of funny. One trap he started yelling waveoff I swear as I was over the deck and kept yelling even as I came to a stop. Admittedly it was a 4th wire trap but it was a trap.

This is a fantastic deal. I did mine the hard way by adding the kit and then the K Premium grip. I am extremely happy w/ it. The K grip seems to be a great all arounder. The layout may not exactly match any real life grips but I kind of like that. It works well for everything I have flown w/ it.

For others who may read this I will add my solution. I struggled w/ TDC slew which is a well known problem w/ the TM Warthog throttle slew. It worked great for slewing on the radar attack screen but terrible for MavFs. There is a well known switch upgrade but you have to give somebody in Europe your credit card info which he keeps for however many months it takes for him to crank out more kits. No thanks. My solution came from getting a new stick w/ more 4 way + push hats. I now use the throttle slew for the radar attack and a hat on the stick for the Mav Fs. This way each switch can be tuned for it's application.

Anyone willing to help me with Landing/Angle of Attack
CBStu replied to bunraku's topic in DCS: F/A-18C
My fix for that is I don't drop flaps until 180-190. I keep seeing people writing to use the stick to control nose rise. If it works for them fine. I don't have that problem. Drop flaps at 180 and it feels like it did when you dropped the gear at 250. The plane just slows down. -
I am surprised. Every time I use one in one of the SP missions where they are preloaded, I just hate sitting there keeping the target plane locked up while waiting for the dang thing to hit. I feel like I have a target on my back. One of the missions has us taking on I think it's 6 Migs. I sometimes launch a bunch of 7s for the heck of it and they never hit anything. Can you give a few more details on how you launch and aim them please?

There is a checkable 'synchronize w/ hotas at start' or similar in the settings. I have my labels controlled by a push button push=on, push again = off but I wonder...Could you map it to a two position switch, leave that switch in the off position so, when it synchronizes on mission startup, it would be off?

You sure won't lose anything doing that. Anything will be better than a 7.

I think I will stay w/ 255 for a while yet. I think I could use the new carrier if I went to 256 but have no interest in all the stuff I've been reading here re;256. Jeez.

My weapons select switch 'left' goes to guns.

Thank you I will do a quick print as is just as a trial. Well I tried. Any one know how to open a rar. file. I thought it was described as MS Word file but Word won't open it.

The best thing I have done to avoid seeing this much is quit using AIM7s. I fly the provided mission in SP so starting from the carrier the first thing I do is hit R so I can re-arm and dump all the 7s.

Bunraku in your video you get to an acceptable AOA at about 1'25". At that point your VV is within the E bracket, just a little on the low end. A tiny bit more trim up would get it centered in the E. At that point never touch trim again. As long as your airspeed is reasonably close, say 120 to 145, you will stay centered in the E. At a point later in the video (I forget the time) you trim up some more and your VV goes above the E. I think you were trying to get the plane to fly higher relative to the green boxes. You should have increased throttle and left trim alone. I also notice that your throttle movement is too coarse resulting in speed changes that are too large. A certain speed is not the goal here but I use it as a reference to see how I am doing. Generally you will see a full flaps, good AOA speed of 130 to 135. What throttle are you using? You need one w/ a long travel so you can easily make tiny adjustments. When I started this I had a throttle lever on my stick. The tip of the lever moved maybe 1.5 inches. I glued an extension to it to get the tip to move maybe 2 inches. I finally bought a TM Warthog throttle which has been unbelievably good for carrier traps. The tip of the levers move about 5 inches. As you may know there is a real lag between you moving the throttle and seeing a resulting change. Adding power is the most laggy and reducing throttle is a bit better. So the trick is anticipating what the plane will need a few seconds from now. Say you want to aim the plane at the white lines at the beginning of the landing strip. Put the VV there, but then it starts dropping. So you add throttle. The VV moves upward toward the lines, but don't wait til it gets there to reduce throttle. You need to reduce throttle a bit before it gets where you want it or it will go on past. This stuff is hard to do. I am far from great at it but I can see improvement. It will take many, many hours. I don't mean dozens of hours, more like 100s of hours but dang it sure is fun. Keep at it and, like someone said in another thread, when you get frustrated, go blow something up or shoot down some planes and come back to landings another time. -
Would there be any way to add some kind of a spring loaded physical lever to your Virpil so you could feel a slight increased effort needed to get past it?

Do you guys cover the existing LED labels?

Two things I noticed; 1- IRL here is a really long carrier wake vs DCS. That would really help me being able to see it that far from the ship. 2- His shoulder harness sure is loose.

I just wanted to match AB kick in to the detent position. I did a free flight and 'F2' view so I was looking at the back of the jet. I moved 'curvature' from zero to 8 or 9. There seems to be a little bit of slop in the system. When I first did it I set it at 10 and later realized it went into AB at the correct position but coming out of AB there would still be a partial AB when I pulled the throttle back just off the detent. So 8 or 9 fixed that.

Yesterday flying in SP on stable I tried GBU 38s for the first time. Had to keep going back to WAGS video to check I was doing it correctly. I need a bunch more practice but of the 20 I tried, 14 went who knows where ( I am learning how to follow them w/ F6 too) 6 dropped and looked OK till the last few seconds and none hit where I expected. They were all maybe 1-2-300 yards long. I thought maybe it was me, maybe not?

This my golden rule also. When I fire up DCS I will do one or two straight-in traps in the instant action case 1 mission. Then I will go to the Bankler mission. When I get frustrated I will usually do one more and then move on to a 2 vs 2 mission or similar.
