  1. One way to solve this is use two different controls. I use that funny little nub on the TM Warthog throttle for slew on the radar attack screen. I use a hat on my VKB stick to slew Maverick Fs. I have not tried to slew anything on the HUD though.
  2. I agree on a straight-in approach wait for flaps to 190 or less. I usually go to full, rather than 1/2 and then full, because that way I only need to do the AOA trimming once. Also at the boat w/ the ICLS running, you may not be able to immediately go to full up trim because that will move you above the glide slope line.
  3. Excellent so I will get the fix one day in stable. Thank you.
  4. I am on stable version. What I notice is the thing bounces around like a drunk. But if I get it centered on the plane, get the shoot signal, then it always hits. My problem is to get it on the plane. But still it is an improvement on that funnel w/ the + and two dots.
  5. Yes once in a while is SP it happens to me. Fortunately off/on fixes it.
  6. In some of the supplied missions where we take off from the carrier our main job is to keep Migs away from our attackers. So I start climbing and then hit F10 and click on one the Migs. A popup shows the altitude they are flying so I will climb to a that or slightly higher.
  7. Top left mini-stick? I am curious the top left 4 way plus push is this the mini-stick I see mentioned once in a while? What do you use it for? I see that the push illuminates a red light next to the blue one and another push turns it off so I am thinking this is more than just another 4 way plus push that is shaped differently. I am mostly flying the FA-18. Ideas for using it?
  8. +2. I started here 11/2018 and have asked a LOT of questions. I have gotten great help on every one. Sure is nice. I have been on other forums where a 1 word description would be 'snarky' so I am grateful DCS is always helpful.
  9. You could install another hard drive. SSDs are about $100 for a terrabite now.

For practice I fly either the Quick Action approach in the Persian Gulf (the water is a prettier color than in the Caucuses) or Banklers. In the QA, as soon as the plane stops I do a quick F2 to see which wire I caught or Bankler tells me that in the score. As soon as I know that I hit L Shift + R to start over.
  11. You can also use one of the buttons around the display to select hostile (HOS) only. Fast forward to about 2'10".

If you fly one of the included missions that takes off from a carrier does it work then? I have never had a problem and I always take off w/ full AB.
  13. Thanks for pointing out that range is a possible cause Stubbies2003. I googled and found a listing for DCS missiles and bomb ranges here; https://www.airgoons.com/w/DCS_Reference/Missile_Ranges I made a short cheat sheet for the ones I use most often and printed it.
  14. AB throttle detent by craig stuard, on Flickr I take it back I used a small file. I was thinking of something else when I said sand paper. Paper would still work especially a strip glued to something like a popsicle stick. The green arrows indicate the area filed at about a 45 degree angle to the surface w/ the red piece sticking up. Once reinstalled I went to a free flight mission and messed around w/ the throttle curve. I watched the rear of the plane w/ F2 view and figured when the exhaust turns red/orange that was AB in. So I re-shaped the curve til the red appeared just after moving past the detent. Throttle curve by craig stuard, on Flickr
  15. Using the Mav page only , no pod, a MavF will not fire unless it has a lock. Frustrating as heck because it is real particular about what it will lock onto. I get one lock for maybe 5-6 tries using the slew and then depress method w/ TM Warthog throttle and the special fix unchecked.
  16. I do the F2 when not in Bankler's mission. You have to do a quick mouse move to rotate the view as it starts out w/ a side view of your plane.
  17. I have a 1.5 yr old Gladiator II and upgraded w/ the kit and an SCG grip. The upgrade was a pain (probably because I am not a great PC tech) but a couple of the VKB guys stuck w/ me on the forum and we got it working. I guess the more expensive units may be better but I am ecstatic how well this combination works for a desktop stick.
  18. I am using a 3 way switch which clicks to each direction and self centers in the center position. I click it one way and it jumps some pre-determined amount which seems to work out. If I click it up twice and then click it down twice I end up back where I started.
  19. Actually used a piece of 150 grit sandpaper. The kind w/ a sticky back which I stuck to a flat piece of plywood. I also used some silicone grease once I got the angle done.
  20. I will try zooming. I thought of it, but I'd have to move my hand from the throttle, and it seems like cheating. I will give it a try though as I 'think' maybe I can do it w/ my thumb. I can definitely do a zoom, not sure about getting back to normal.
  21. Well, I learned something today. Been flying DCS a year now and haven't gotten to IFF yet. I just checked and my hat switch does have a depress, but I have never used it. So maybe you won't miss it.
  22. Here ya go. 3 4 mile out by craig stuard, on Flickr Not sure what was happening w/ the DCS screenshot. I went into controls and it had SysRQ greyed out in the keyboard column. Cleared it but then clicking the Add button and nothing happened. I got this using L Control + PretScn. As a reference point this is a new PC and new 27 inch gaming screen both Alienware. One way I know it is much better than the old one is I can now see plane dots before the labels pop up. BTW, it's not to bad in this one (doing a straighten approach in the Persian Gulf carrier landing mission) but in others depending on lighting I am not sure who thought it a good idea to put the bright white dome right behind the lights. BTW 2, for this last 3/4 mile I purposely flew to move the VV from the beginning of the deck to the end and couldn't see any change in the ball.
  23. That's what I do except I don't bother w/ 1/2 flaps, I wait and drop full flaps at 170-180. That way I only need to adjust trim once.
  24. One thing I have figured out is don't forget to have some fun. The difficulty of the various missions and qualifications varies from 'I blew 4 Migs out of the sky in 20 seconds' to 'someday I hope I can get through this and still be flying at the end'. So, when I get frustrated in Bankler's or one of the more difficult missions, I always switch to an easier one before I shut down the PC. I like L Shift +R to do a quick restart and run the fun one 3-4 times.
  25. ICLS works fine for me. This is the system for the boat. As far as I know there is no ILS for ground landing.
