So, what’s the feeling of flying the Mossie in pitch black and clouds (Full IMC)? Scary ! Currently and as simulated the attitude indicator is nothing but a useless piece of equipment that is never erected properly. Oh you can get a hang of it by taking precise mental pictures of its position at the exact moment when the gyro compass stops turning, but that would be the best you will get out of it and that of course will have to be a process that you will have to repeat over and over again for the duration of the flight. The pleasure of experiencing the above is only true if you make it after the take off with a tilted horizon, the landing lights being a better indication of what is going on in front of the aircraft, if you see anything just PULL! Was it that bad IRL? Best, Lau

Thanks @Flappie I have always thought that a - "Refuel on bingo fuel" 2 (new feature)= when bingo fuel, the AI pilot will switch to waypoint defined by the ME. That point could then be a CVN or a refuel point or the route back to an airfield according to the scenario, in IMO this is better than allowing the AI to choose a random airfield and makes sense for carrier operations where the CVN is generally far and a AAR is required before the AI is able to recover on board (RTB). About your question I am not an expert, but depending on the complexity of the FARP from a couple of hours to weeks. However it is easy to fill a truck with ammo and fuel and deliver it to the front line provided the truck does not get blown up on its way. As I wrote, the payload limitations of the truck could apply to make it more realistic. This could be specially handy for airframes with limited ammo payload and of course would be available to any airframe in DCS provided it can land and taxi near the trucks, even WW2 planes in an open field, the possibilities are endless. It does on the scenarios I set up in the ME lasting around two to three hours depending on how I perform... With the performance increase it is becoming now possible to have a moving and dynamic front line based on triggers and for the high end machines even multiple front lines. The AH64D is so deadly that to make it even, I generally add multiple front lines that attack a single objective, generally my starting point. After one hour vehicles have spread all around the map requiring a form of local support (refuel/rearm) to stop the columns of vehicles once they have been spotted. Dealing with moving and fast vehicles makes the game more interesting IMO. I am still to try persistent missions, what would you recommend for SP? Best, Lau

Hey guys, @sLYFa thanks for the tip, I had forgotten about that one. That being said it takes two hands to perform the action, with that it is also worth noting that all other airframes of the type can do it with just scrolling the mouse wheel or pressing the left button. Personally I am more inclined to scrolling the mouse wheel over a very reactive rotary bingo fuel button, like what it is done for the altimeter. A one hand and quick job if you see what I mean, like in the real cockpit I suppose. Best, Lau PS: oh! and I forgot, there is also the press and hold the left button while dragging the mouse in one direction or the other, current HB solution in the F14.

A way to prevent TKRs from refueling other TKRs that are RTB I had an interesting situation where a KC135 was supposed to be replaced by another KC135. The current KC135 that was almost depleted moved to bingo state and instead of RTB just cued on the replacement tanker, refueled and then did RTB as planned with all the gas from the replacement tanker that also moved on Bingo state, leaving the AO with no tanker. Can we please think of a way to prevent this from happening? It could be an option in the ME on the tankers page preventing it to refuel. Best, Laui

Please make the usage of the bingo fuel rotary easier by being able to shift faster through fuel quantities according to the mission bingo, at the moment it takes too much time. I am looking for the same reactivity than the altimeter pressure setting knob just for reference. My suggestion since it has currently two speeds, is to allow for the left mouse button to be the fast speed and for the right one for the slow speed. Best, Lau

Difference in fuel density between main and slipper fuel tanks
Lau replied to Lau's topic in DCS: Spitfire L.F. Mk. IX
@Skewgear Thanks for taking the time to have a look at this, by the way the figures I used are from the ME. I have created a topic on the bugs & problems, please flag it as reported when possible. Link to the problem report Your findings on the cylindrical external tank capacity are interesting, not sure how the Spit will cope with that extra weight since it has a very limited payload for fuel, especially with bombs mounted. Best, Lau -
By all means, just make it optional. There two different things IMO: 1) How far ED will push the simulation considering that they have proved to be very bad in adding realistic AI to DCS. This is the number one reason why ED is not keen in developing any AI projects, simply not worth it in terms of revenue (read, they are bad at it and loose too much time). On the user side the result at least on my end is to avoid as much as possible using AI, the only airframe that I must fly with an AI pilot is the HB F14 since the RIO is not able to fly from the rear seat and it is an awful experience, the AI not being even able to maintain speed during turns. The result is that we spend our time reporting bugs and begging for months, years for a fix that sometimes end up never coming. The customer experience in that perspective is terrible and a real waste of time. While it takes some practice to fly two seaters airframes single handed, once you get a grip of it, you stop relaying on poor AI and the flight operation becomes more dynamic and fluid in the AO. 2) Rather than considering that taking the workload of both pilot and navigator as a way of avoiding the main issue, I do it for the pleasure of flying. The Mossie is in reality not more than a big fighter plane, it does not even have a bombing sight, flying it is not much different than flying the Spit, P51 or any other single seater, here I am referring to the pilot workload and not to the flight characteristics of each individual airframe. Leaving the pleasure to fly to an AI is a choice, sometimes a need for those learning the airframe, a rightful expectation since the Mossie has indeed a navigator and not everyone has a body available to take that role. However, once used to the twin engine aspect, properly trimmed and with your joystick also properly calibrated to allow for stable flight, she is very stable outside of turbulences that is. While operating the radios you also have a good view on the flying instruments and the wings, I had no trouble last night going through the excellent Chuck's Guide for operating the radios for both communication and navigation and even operating the E6B computers and map while diverting to another airfield after an engine failure, she can be fully trimmed on all axis and she is very stable once this is done. Beyond the pleasure of flying that is taken away by the AI, you also have all the thinking that goes in to every input, correction that you give to the airframe since they are all connected to each other. While the AI is flying you are not improving your flying skills, therefore yes to an optional and poorly developed AI with the possibility for SP to fully trim the airframe from the navigator’s seat. AI KC135 accellerating after "ready pre-contact" trigger is selected by the player, that means no AAR for a fully loaded and slow A10C. Sorry no track, but just try the above and you should see the accelleration. Please let me know if it is only me having this problem so I can run a full repair and remove the mission mods. Thanks, Lau

Hi @jonsky7, thanks for the info I will check it out, could be useful when I will start learning the navigators radios in the back of the cockpit, although I am managing to have a stable mossie, that is with some small inputs all the time and without turbulences. At the time there was no autopilot like in many small GA airframes still today, it takes some practice but many pilots around the world still fly without an autopilot it keeps all your senses active and help you develop a 6th sense, almost like the cats Flying the old school way is fun, but I need ED to help out single players by allowing us to fully trim the airframe from the navigator seat, we are just missing pitch, since yaw and roll are at reach to the navigator and ED modeled this properly. @Kercheiz @Rainmaker RAZBAN TM, please become serious about fixing bugs on the products you released. As stated the above was supposed to be fixed back in November 2023, we are almost at the end of March 2024 and no one from your team has acknowledged this lack of follow up, if your team claims it was fixed on the change log, then customers should expect to be able to use this functionality? Again AI is part of the game, please acknowledge and fix this. Best, Lau

Tomcat is much harder to do aerial refueling than hornet
Lau replied to Ddg1500's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
Lowering the seat all the way and setting wings to manual mode to prevent them from moving has helped me a lot to get a steady formation on the tanker. Extending the probe will give you yaw that I find best to compensate before AAR. Best, Lau -
I understand the logic behind not allowing the navigator to reach the elevator trim, but in SP and since there is no AI pilot, it would be nice to allow players to fully trim the airframe from the navigator's position. I believe this could help SP using the radios while they monitor and adjust the flight controls. It feels weird to be able to use roll, fly the airplane but not be able to use the elevators trim, I forgot to check yaw... The navigator should be able to fully trim the aircraft in SP (Roll, Pitch, Yaw). Best, Lau

The navigator's Jettison button is still not working after I removed all mods and repaired DCS. The above tracks where made before I remove mods and do the repair. I did try this time to use the button from the navigator's position to no avail. Once this will be fixed, both pilot and navigator are at reach of the button, therefore both should be able to action it. Best, Lau

[FIXED] Unable to drop wing bombs before fusellage bombs
Lau replied to Lau's topic in Bugs and Problems
Removed all mods, repaired DCS and all seems to be working, I will continue monitoring the origin of the problem as I fly with the MOSSIE. Best, Lau -
Unable to Jettison containers Bombs & Tanks from navigator button from the pilot or navigator seat. PS: did not test with external tanks but chances are they also can't be dropped with that switch next to the armament panel. I am pretty sure I have managed to drop them with the switch next to the pilot. All flights start with leveling, trimming and adjusting engines, followed by wing bomb drop attempt, followed by fusellage bomb drops and finally the jettison attempt. PS: Tracks removed.

[FIXED] Unable to drop wing bombs before fusellage bombs
Lau replied to Lau's topic in Bugs and Problems
Hi Bozon, Yes, but the problem is not easy to reproduce as there are inconsistencies from one test to the other, however overall there are a lot of problems with regards to dropping bombs from the wings. Sometimes only one bomb will go and the other one will stay hanged to the wing, requiring violent shaking with the controls to release it. Most of the time as it can be seeing in the tracks, the wing bombs simply did not go. Attached a couple of tracks and a morning wasted hoping to improve the Mossie. Best, Lau PS: All flights start with leveling, trimming and adjusting engines, followed by a wing bomb drop attempt, followed by fuselage bomb drops and finally the jettison attempt. PS: Tracks removed -
Unable to drop wing bombs before fuselage bombs. Once fuselage bombs are dropped, then it becomes possible to drop the wing bombs. Best, Lau

Of course I did read all the above and I was astonished by how little the dcs weather sim is getting in 2024, that being said it is nice to put a cube in the air to block the AI view, specially for WW2 scenarios. Anyways, thanks for sharing your thoughts with me, always a pleasure to exchange around our favorite sim and let’s hope for good surprises in 2024. Best, Lau
