Thanks to the devs, 2.5.5 is apparently much more smooth
jross194 replied to TwojaStara's topic in DCS 2.9
Seems smoother here too. VR, O+. Thanks for the work...crossing fingers the VR improvements go even further. I'd rather give ED my money (for the next module, or two) than nVidia or AMD + Intel + Samsung, etc..for a faster computer. -
Same here. Don't recall the freq. Was my standard mission, saved just prior to run. Couldn't figure out why the tanker wouldn't respond (no changes made to tanker, freq, etc). Noticed Jester has dialed in a VHF freq but in ME it was 251.0. Asked him, politely, twice. Jumped into his seat and manually changed it to continue before I ran outta gas. His girlfriend probably left him last night...

Have the same issue and went through similar steps, minus the new SSD drive. Just seems to me that the Tomcat is, for some reason, going to disk a lot more than other modules (F18, AV8, F5 are the only other's I use), none of them have this issue. That may explain why your installing on the SSD appears to resolve the stutters. But my question is, why is it going to disk so much in the first place. Assuming this is the real issue. My install is 135+ GB! A dedicated SSD is not in the budget for a bit :(

Been using mine since the USB version came out (since the parallel port days CH is all I've used-I'll bet those units would _still_ work). Never an issue. Feel like I can do surgery with it. CM software is an issue; will work once [Win10] then crash. But since I only do DCS I haven't even run that software in months. Don't think you need it [CM] as per comments elsewhere. For AB detent: there's the 'velcro' mod - cut & stick a small piece inside that gives you a lil feedback when you hit the 'spot'.

Yes they are, and the most complete I've ever seen and heard in any flight sim. Nice job. Now add some feeling (another sense) and you have: more better Keep up the good work PS: You guys should do an F4 Phantom (B,C, etc) as I'd imagine it may be similar in feeling given the era's. Don't know of a high-fi one ever being release.

I've mentioned this elsewhere here I think but, a bass shaker has helped me, alot. BTW, I do NOT recommend the ButterKicker 2; I, and others, seem to have wasted $160+ on that (a lot of reports, including me, that the amps fry - for me at about the 2 month mark). I sorely missed it so I decided to go the DIY route and purchased an AuraSound puck and an amp (they are both rated at 4ohm's while the BK is 2ohms BTW). Counting the software it was cheaper than the BK2 (though of course I've had to eat that initial cost - my vice needs feeding). - AuraSound AST-2B-4 Pro Bass Shaker Tactile Transducer: $55 Note that this puck is kinda big; I had to mount it on the side (underneath my post-pedestal office chair), not the front or back, which made sense at first, but it doesn't seem to matter. - Dayton Audio SA70 70W Subwoofer Plate Amplifier: $50 - SimShaker software (forget the price but it was about $25 I think); the author is updating it still as I've just downloaded the most recent update. The Tomcat is supported, among others. Some speaker wire I had laying around; 4 wood screws and viola, my butt is tuned in to the G and buffet again. Sure, it's artificial but until they make a centrifuge that'll fit into my man-closet its the most cost-effective way I can find. A motion seat would be cool too but I'm not sure they have the vibration feedback (several YT's about people adding bass shakers to their motion machines indicate most don't). Not sure. Doesn't take too long for you to feel when you're at X-g or Y-buffet value (and besides it hurts a LOT less than real G). Yeah, you can hear it and somewhat see it via the sim Fx (I'm strickly VR), but feeling it is fantastic. All the other SimShaker Fx's are fine but the above 2 are the biggies IMO. I've not littered the desert with my wings since, though of course I do have more time in the Tomcat (the one that needs this the most in my stable). Sim feels dead without it to me; one of those you didn't know you needed it until you tried it, and then lost it... Note the JeatSeat (I think it is) would probably be fine too but the above was cheaper and seems to be of high [enough] quality. If you dig around you can find cheaper DIY methods but this was a good compromise to me. Take care

On Windows 10 is works, sorta; the issue isn't, for me, DCS, but Windows. It will freeze up after you download your profile to the CM and won't work again until you either kill the process or reboot. But, again, I've never had a problem with DCS recognizing my settings, though I don't have a complex profile.

Mr Cobra, First, I LOVE this module. Really. I'm a VR-guy (waited 30 years for this and I ain't going back). Several times while admiring the beauty of the Tomcat cockpit (my wife thinks I look hilarious twisting and turning in my chair), I've thought it would be nice to have a lower-detail version? Please don't take that as any kind of slight to your (and your teams) collective work. Just an option for performance, sorta like tuning down texture res. or limiting draw distance... Thanks

^^^ What Vertigo72 said... While I notice a slight drop in FPS vs the F18 what I really notice, and is the worst part, is how, for some reason, the sim keeps 'going to disk' when in the Tomcat. Seemingly 10x more than the Hornet. Worst in PG map, but I still see it in the NTTR. I've tried it several times (same missions). It's becoming a bit frustrating. Happens seemingly no matter what settings I use, from low -> high. My specs for those that will ask: 32gb RAM, i7 6700 4ghz 8 Gig dedicated Vram (nVidia 1080)

I'm with ya. Hardest I've ever had to work at it. And I'm _barely_ there against expert AI. About 3 outta 4 lately. 1) I've come to the conclusion that: that's how it is. Meaning it sorta makes sense. I didn't start to gain any success til I realized that it's gong to be a spiral dance, and I can out roll him, keeping my lift vector where I want it. But it's going to be downhill, and steep. Seems the AI, on expert at least, always use the vertical, and if I'm not really ginger with the pole I'm struggling. 2) I've been comparing this to the Hornet and to me it actually does accelerate briskly when I unload, or at least it's more noticeable. 3) Same and I just think that's the nature of this beast. Haven't read it in a while but Victory205 may have inferred this with his "...tap dance on the pedals, don't pound on them..", or some-such thing. 4) Got that T-shirt too. Seems like I really (really) have to manage the energy; if I let it slip even a tad low and 'tug' a tiny bit too hard, the target flies away and I've got to unload and re-group. Lather, rinse, repeat. I've taken to controlling the stick from the base; sorta like I did when I first started doing AR in the Tomcat (before I discovered Bomb Mode). My stick is very sensitive and has no feedback. Is even harder for me in VR when contorted in my chair and looking back over my shoulder. For me, for example: I just went against the MIG-21, expert AI, in the Hornet. Once I latched on, for fun, I just kept on his Six til he ran outta gas. In the Tomcat it takes 3X the work to do this. And I'm not that successful yet. On the rudder & buffet: heard it somewhere (here?) that your cue is a _little_ buffet; almost like, to me, when I start to notice it I'm probably starting to go over the edge, or really close. Assuming you're near the 'correct' IAS.

Vibration pad/chair make it easier to fly?
jross194 replied to WelshZeCorgi's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
My 2-cents... No need to echo the positives brought forth here - they are, to me, all true. However, somehow I missed some issues with the ButtKicker 2 (I don't have a lot of spare cash and have never had something I researched let me down, til maybe now): After about 2 months the amp fried, quiet loudly with some smoke and sparks. Nothing else in my 'man cave' even flinched. Now, this just happened 2 days ago and I've yet to get ahold of tech support. Digging back in time, further now, and it seems I am not alone. I won't comment more until tech support has had their chance. Just beware. And I miss the sensation dearly, especially in the Tomcat (AOA sensation and G are the most important features IMO). Good luck -
Wings of Fury good to, IMO. As well as Scream Of Eagles, both by Wilcox https://www.amazon.com/Scream-Eagles-Dramatic-Account-Fighter-ebook/dp/B000FCKBCA/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=scream+of+eagles&qid=1553738871&s=gateway&sr=8-1

[NO BUG] Far too easy to over G the plane with no feedback.
jross194 replied to Tomsk's topic in Bugs and Problems
^^^^ This (and this). I ain't much better at winning A2A engagements but I _am_ littering the desert less with my wings; I have it set to start giving me feedback at about 5-G. But still experimenting. I use a Buttkicker and not the JetSeat. Same principle -

Think I've figured it out - matching .wav files. Thanks. -
^^^^ I sense a theme here

^^^^ Love it. Been spending more time than I should admit doing just that. Guess I'm on the right track. AND... I've wanted to build my own centrifuge so I can get some _feel_ here (littering the desert/ocean with my wings is getting Green Peace P-O'd). Since that's not going to fit in my closet (mini-office): I just installed the ButtKicker 2 and SimShaker Aviators (beta that supports the F-14). Since the first flight (in VR) A process to get it setup & working each time but I'm getting better at feeling how many G's I'm at and, with the stall/buffet setting, what my AOA is - as I look over the back of my chair. I ain't real but it is physical feedback. The other goodies (gear/tarmac/flap) 'thunking' is cool but the G & Buffet settings are a great bang-for-the buck solution IMO. Don't know why this piece of kit, or 'haptic feedback'? Isn't more popular. Especially in VR. NOTE: There's also a Jetseat thingy (pad you sit on) that's supposedly even more gooder but not tried that yet. Keep practicing

[Official] SimShaker for Aviators

Nice work. A question on modification of output Mr f410, I really like this; after just an hour I don't see going back [to not using this feedback method] - kinda like a 'poor man's centrifuge'. I can 'feel' G now. And buffet. Those are the most important, to me anyway. The other stuff is a great benefit too. I can't believe, especially in VR, that this system isn't much more popular. BTW, I'm using the beta; hope is to reduce the litter - keep scattering my wings all over the NTTR because I'm not sure how hard I'm pulling! Question: I can't seem to edit the effects. Looking through the SS docs I find a link to "Start UWVeditor" but is crashes every time. I'm using only a ButtKicker 2 and it seems that app isn't trapping correctly for its absence? I can find the uvw files and edit them manually but info linking the file to the effect is via filename and they are, at first go, cryptic (to me). I'd just like to experiment with the separation of 'feel's between the Stall vs G-Feel. Just a thought. Thanks again for the work. Just where do I send you, f410, a donation - I purchased the SSSoundModule of course from the other gentleman? Sorting this all out is a bit confusing. Take care, J -

Got a SO+ on sale (been waiting til the funds came in). First, yes, I'm old. So a matter of perspective to some degree... Started playing flight sims on a Tandy 8088, circa 1987? - everything was wireframe graphics; thought it would be a less boring way to learn instrument approach procedures, and I was right. And I was hooked. From my perspective this is what I've been waiting for for 30 years. It's a little grainy, yes. Hurts my head after while, yes (getting better). But I've tweaked it such that it is 'serviceable' - and looks pretty good & runs well enough (no experience with earlier VR models). You can have my VR headset...when you pry if from my cold, dead, fingers. TrackIR is gathering dust. BFM is easier. AR is easier. Landings are easier. I play 10X more now than before, doing things I never would've done before. Of course I want more, we always do; about 4x the resolution, wider FOV. Hopefully we will get there.

A smeared Label mod (2.5).
jross194 replied to Knock-Knock's topic in Utility/Program Mods for DCS World
Dude, I'm a year late (and then some) to the VR party (never going back to TIR). This is a great mod: simple and effective. Nice work.
