3/4 of the Instant Action missions for the Caucuses map have been relocated to the Missions sub menu after updating to the current open beta version. Not a huge deal all the missions are still there, I tried to move them back myself but it didn't change anything. Also there are a bunch of weird .miz files in the "quickstart" folder I've never seen before that are just a bunch of letters and symbols and not actual mission names/titles. Thank you.

i might try it again tonight, the briefing instructs you to run cap between 3-4 until you are relieved of duty. I think there was a tanker flying around so you don't have to land. I'm not sure how to pinpoint him without a TACCAN channel though. Anyway if I can survive long enough I'll fly around until they tell me to RTB or I fall asleep and let you know.

i was able to find them and lock them up no issues, I bagged one but his wingman nailed me. I hesitated on the missile launch alarm and it cost me. I played mission one, I'm not sure which mission you did but the bandits are hot right in front of you when you turn to waypoint 4 to start your cap.

ill try it maybe tonight or sunday and see what happens

I should be calling it antenna elevation I guess. click sensor select switch right then move the TDC cursor around and it will tell you what altitude range you are scanning at whatever range the TDC cursor is at. Just jacking the settings all the way to the max isn't going to help because at closer distances to your plane there are huge areas you aren't scanning. I'm not the best at explaining how the radar scans, think of it as a rectangular cone shooting out the front of the plane. If you aren't shooting it in the right direction someone can fly above or below where you are scanning especially if they are in close. It takes practice, well it took me some time to figure it out. Make sure you aren't scanning at -20,000 ft or something like that. There is a good instant action mission where you can just fly around and track flights of F-15's coming in to land. Practice acquiring their signal and keeping it as they change altitude and your range between them increases/decreases.

you mean if....:smilewink:

more than likely you don't have the radar antenna pointed at the right altitude. are you set up 1 bar, 4bar? Interleaved? What range are you scanning at? What altitude is your antenna scanning at. There are a lot of factors involving using the radar effectively. If awacs gave you altitude you should be scanning at that altitude and at a range long enough to include that area of the sky. I took me a little while to get good at it. I run mine usually at 4bar at 40 miles out and set the antenna to look between 0 and 30k. Pretty hard for an airplane to sneak through that as most seem to fly under 30,000ft from what I've seen. But I mostly play single player, I haven't got into multiplayer much at all yet.

if you are gonna switch to either one back up all your keybinds, settings, track files and any missions you have built in the editor first. I switched and lost everything. I wanted to have both but not enough space on my current SSD.

there isn't a way nor will there ever be to warn you about IR missiles minus visually looking for the plume when they come off the rail. I hate them so much. Don't lose tally on your bogey, "lose sight lose the fight." If you know he's back there you better be looking or you go boom boom. Usually once I merge "if I can even get that far into the fight" I throw the radar out the window and it's strictly visual from that point until one of us are dead. I simply couldn't dogfight until I got TrackIR it made ALL the difference.

How to navigate to airfield without TACAN or ADF?
KittyVCAW-1 replied to imacken's topic in DCS: F/A-18C
Learning the area you fly in and using landmarks has worked out pretty well for me so far. -
stuttering, frame drop, micro stutter, micro freeze
KittyVCAW-1 replied to fastfed's topic in Game Performance Bugs
I can't seem to find a file called autoexec.cfg can you help me find it anyone? I found graphic.lua and it wont let me save the edited file either. Do I have to make that file with MS-DOS. this is way over my head right now but this has been/is driving me crazy. I'm glad I found this I thought it was maybe windows running some process in the background or something. I've been tearing my hair out trying to track it down. I've tried everything suggested in this thread and more with no luck so far. Will edit that file and report back after a few hrs of playtime. Thanks! -
Be patient, I have full confidence these guys will give us an awesome module when all is said and done. Keep an eye on that thread and when they have something to tell us they most certainly will. The transparency in the dev process is second to none that I've experienced. I wish the big AAA developers would take a page from these dudes I'm really impressed.

What does the BIT advisory on the left DDI mean?
KittyVCAW-1 replied to imacken's topic in DCS: F/A-18C
Thanks I noticed this for the 1st time tonight on the A/A refueling practice mission. Could clear the advisory but would come right back a few seconds later. Went to BIT page and everything flashing like crazy. Tried running BIT for all systems but did nothing so I just ignored it and proceeded to follow tanker around until he ran out of fuel and everyone ejected. I was hoping to watch him trap but bailing out is easier I guess. -
post a track file if you can.

i think by adding some curve to your rudder axis would make it less linear and more progressive thereby making minor corrections easier. Maybe a tiny dead zone too. My pedals are super sensitive and just the act of resting my feet on them gave me a minor amount of input one direction or the other. Glad you got your A/P sorted out.

No it works, it's how you lock up one specific target when radar has multiple contacts on it. I think it only works if you are in RWS

Hitting tanks with unguided bombs is tricky. It's gotten a lot easier recently thanks to a buff from the devs. I have pretty good success against APV's with MK82. I don't play with 83's much because they are heavier but 83's would mess up heavy tanks pretty good. Both 82's and 83's seem about the same in terms of accuracy IMO. Learning to use them isn't a waste of time either. I wan't to be proficient with all of the hornets weapons systems. Dumb bombing is really satisfying to me, laser guided stuff I'll get into once we have the t-pod and ground radar/FLIR and all that good stuff. Keep practicing it took me about a week to get decent at it. Wags put up a video of himself using dumb bombs and I just emulated what he did and I got kinda decent at it. What helped the most was learning how to get super close and rolling in on the target almost directly above it. I didn't know thats how they do bomb runs I was always starting my dive WAY too far away from the target.

yeah i went into the game to play around with it and I dont have to press "on" either. Stable version or OB? I'm on OB and used to not get the semi colons for Balt and Ralt but updated today and they work now. Also didn't notice any A/P advisory on the DDI. Will play for another hour or so tonight I'll check everything again. But regardless all A/P modes are working for me.

My crappy $60 thrustmaster TWCS throttle has a spring loaded paddle perfect for antenna elevation control. It works awesome but it won't center the antenna for you. I've yet to feel the need to have it perfectly centered. I typicaly have it pointed wherever the bad guys are and it doesn't feel like it needs to be an exact science either. I'd bet everything I own there is no control to do this in the f-18 or really any other airplane. But what do I know? Makes me feel good I didn't spend $200+ on a "nice" throttle now. The real throttle has a dial that functions as a 3 position switch and not an axis I'm pretty sure too.

As per the manual: Autopilot modes listed on the UFC are selected by pressing the Option Select Button next to the Option Select Window of the autopilot mode. When selected, a colon is displayed next to the autopilot name on the Option Select Window. Once selected, pressing the ON/OFF button on the UFC enables the mode. An A/P advisory is displayed on the left DDI when an autopilot mode is engaged.

The placcard is on the left wall in the cockpit. The option is definitely there. The APU does not power any of that stuff in the F-18. Switch 1 & 2 in position A will turn on the computer and DDI's.
-
Well lets Start at the very beginning. You installed them from the module manager right? I assume you did so I'm not positive but you wont find those in the mission editor. You need to select the "Missions" option in the main menu, then select the plane the missions belong to and then you should get a list of available pre-canned missions. Did you do that? If you have and they aren't there I'd suggest downloading and try reinstalling. That is about as far as I can take you anything beyond that is gonna take someone with more computer knowledge than I have.
