Actually the wheels are mounted on 4"x4" solid wood which is bolted to the mfd. I still havent received my ejection seat and Im hesitant to start building the sides until I can verify seat height.

When I reach an area that I want to stand off with enemy, Im usually coming in at 200knots and want to quickly come to a slow forward airspeed then stop. I dump the collective to 0 to avoid gaining a lot of altitude and pull up to about 25-30 degrees. As I slow down slowly increase the collective to add braking affect and avoid losing altitude and a low power situation. At all times Im watching my forward airspeed and vertical airspeed. Ive done it successfully many times, but the problem is Ive been unsuccessful just as many times. Often times the helo will very suddenly and without warning enter the vrs state with a very rapid vertical decent long before my forward airspeed is near 0 which means I added too little collective too late. I can get out of the vrs state but only if I have altitude I can lose. This extreme manuever obviously requires the right touch. As I said Ive done it successfully many times. The problem with landing 95% of the time is pretty much the same reason. Im approaching the airfield with a fair amount of altitude and speed which i try to bleed off too quickly. Ive got about 60hours in the shark (admittedly much of it is transit time) but generally I have little problem with basic flight, transitioning, landing etc. But haste generally ends in waiste and when the target area is 30 minutes of flight time, its hard to not be hasty and resort to more extreme maneuvers.

too rich for my blood. Id rather go for 3 55" LED tvs anyway. lot less expensive (only $2500 each lol) and a lot bigger view.

Ive learned my lesson to not get too close to enemies or you pay the consequences. Lately Ive been having problems dying not from enemies but from extreme manuevers. I go from 150knots to 0 and shove my collective to nothing. Hard to do cause I easily enter a vortex ring. Or a sam launches and I dump collective and make a hard bank/turn and crash in the water. Or I go home to rearm and screw up the landing. Any instructions somewhere on how to do extreme manueveres without killing yourself?

After a few hours of work the base came out nicely.

Thanks for the replies. I didnt have a chapter 13 in my book but I printed out the original manual before the updates. I will try the procedure but just now the sim gives me an error when I try to load. Have to reinstall. As far as it not being modelled, I know it comes up on the Ekran but I always wondered why it didnt seem to do anything if I ignored it. If I understand the systems correctly, if the INU is out of wack, then lasing targets, sending datalink, and reaching pvi coordinates would be off wouldnt they?
-
I know I read the procedure somewhere but now I can find it. What is the procedure for performing the inu fix update or where can I find the instructions for it? I tried locking a position with shkval and pressing one of the inu buttons on the PVI but ekran message still didnt go away.

Old thread I know but Im still struggling with this myself. I was really interested in PHCC project but it seems the PCBs arent available anymore. That doesnt leave a whole lot of options. Ive heard some limitations with OpenCockpits but now I think its down to that or epic which is a far more expensive solution. Has anyone else come up with anything else? I want a system that can be expanded the way open cockpits can.

There seem to be numerous acronyms floating around the forums Ive been having problems finding what they mean. ROE (rules of engagement?) not sure why this is important in a sim where if you wait to be fired upon, good chance your dead. One I hear my wingman say a lot which I still havent figured out is during an engagment with a target. Most of the stuff is easily understood. He clearly calls out, "Missile Away", "Engaged defensive", and plenty other stuff but quite often he calls out "Shek" or at least that what it sounds like. What does this mean? For awhile I thought it meant he's being fired upon by guns, but after observations Im not so sure thats the case. The manual doesnt mention this call out.

This is probably the one area I have to cheat. I often have zero luck spotting enemies unless they r out in the open. I also find it almost impossible to know friendly/enemy if they are near each other so i use labels. Thats the one cheat I use cause i suck as it is and its challenge enough for me to just not die.

I purchased a 50" 1080p plasma tv specifically for DCS. Contrast isnt an issue. The only downside I've found is the whole screen burn in issue. This isnt a problem when your playing games but if all you have is the usual windows screen up for 10-15min, the image lingers for a few minutes once its been changed. Small price to pay for high quality.

Ahem. 2012? Id like to fly the A-10 before I die man.

Ive crossed the mountains before too but there have been several occasions where I didnt climb high enough before I reached the mountains, and when I get there have to climb out another 500meters, I end up slowing to a crawl and vertical ascent becomes painful.
-
All set up and ready to start.

Actually thats something Ive been wondering. According to the manual the shark has a service ceiling of 5500 meters which comes out to about 18000'. How do they get that number? Is that with zero load out, with all the paint stripped off, the gun and pods removed or something? Ive got it up to 3500 meters at which point it just doesnt go up any more. At 3000 meters trying to climb anymore you can hear it shouting "I think I can; I think I can!"

I flew a particular campaign mission 3 times and got shot down every time. However I got kinda tired of flying 30minutes through the mountains to reach the target area and this mission was a flight of 4 ships. This last time myself and 1 wingman got shot down not long after arrival but I decided to wait and see what happened with the other 2 wingman being AI and not human. They took their sweet time after 20 minutes they picked off the rest of the target package and I got a mission complete. Now I feel guilty cause it felt like cheating but I dont like flying the long missions. Does anyone else do this? Cause if I didnt do all the work then I didnt really win right?

I made my pit plans using those prints but I will have to admit that moving to standard over metric, I will likely fudge a few milimeters here and there to make a good fit. I highly doubt i will be able to tell the difference when I jump in.

I purchased the F-16 USB version with toe brakes for just under $400 USD. Shipping was included but it did take about 2.5 weeks for delivery

My tools came in Monday. Lotsa goodies including table saw, mitre saw, jig saw, sander, router, and a new lithium drill. My Simped pedals came in yesterday and of course had to try them out on Blackshark. Woot. Rudder control felt very smooth especially for those rocket launches. Today I priced out about $200 of wood that I will be picking up on Friday. Ill take some pics of it all this weekend before I make my first cut. Gettin excited. I got news yesterday as well of my ACES seat getting some final additions including movable ejection handles. I finished upgrading my Cougar stick and throttle with hall sensors (in case the new HOTAS never sees the light of day). I also won a Warthog mousepad that I received today from Fighterops.com. Im about $1000 in and almost ready to start.

I just got mine 2 days ago except I got the f-16 version with toe brakes. I am so far very impressed with them and they were 100% upgrade for me compared to the CH Pro USB pedals I was using. They provide a very precise smooth output. The only downside I have found other than having to order from Germany, it is a bit lighter than I would like altho as previously stated they do include velcro to attach and support screws for permanent placement. Also the toe brakes are not differential. They are simply on/off, but realistically except for Microsoft Flight Simulator, I havent found differential braking to be of any use. The other downside is the price. For me tho it was a 1 time upgrade well worth the find. The company was good enough to customize mine at no extra charge. Normally a sister company makes the usb version, but since I could not get ahold of them, they made a usb version for me and had it painted black per request. Excellent service.

Best way to strafe with gun or rockets?
sweinhart3 replied to Prophet4no1's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
This is purely matter of preference i think but I've been finding it easier to get more accurate rocket hits when it is boresighted. Trying to line up 2 pippers and get a ground lock for ranging is extra work. If its boresighted theres less clutter on the hud and its just line it up and go. I also found it helpful changing all my controls, stick/rudder/throttle to hall sensor. It has a much more precise feel to it and theres no pot spiking to screw up your line up. -
awesomeness

How can you make DIY CNC parts for $100 when the CNC costs $20,000? Id certainly be interested.

One thing Ive been thinking about is rather than having a ladder, incorporating a step into one of the sides. Would detract from the looks but solve the problem without taking up additional space.

Perhaps a step ladder like the real thing? ;)
