  1. Definitely helpful and appreciated........ I've always been stumped when "Auto Lase Fail" msg comes up....... what'd I do what'd I do???? now, Kelevra9987 said: "GBU-31/38 you just can ripple one after the other." I've thought that multiple units of JDAMs could be delivered by one aircraft but my recollection is that the profile maker's choices of changes for 31's, 38's, CBU-105 and 103 are none..... can't set N/T or SGL/PRS/RIPs? Half the challenge is learning what not to do :)
  2. Newbie questions.... I also have been curious as to best channel to post them in. I've learned some good stuff on this very page, nonetheless....... re: the value of clickable cockpits, needing to fly with left hand, etc..... figure that in actual flight, the pilots are dealing in realtime with flight physics, decisions on radar signals in terms of power/direction/etc, which weapons to deploy, potential for collateral effects upon delivery, a horsefly on his/her tail aka "enemy", and oh yeah permission....... the kind that's granted as the targets disappear into storm drains/caves/hotels/hospitals..... you can certainly polish your multitasking skills when needing a third hand for keyboard commands..... hopefully getting all preparations together before "launch aborted", "GCAS break", and other such annoyances :) Ever ask the software "whose side are you ON????" :) Lastly, and pursuant to Yurgon's appreciated speculations, that hesitation/stutter is the kind of stuff that drives hardware upgrades. That an SSD can have such benefit? Just in time, I've got 2 500GB SSD's awaiting my procrastination to change shift...... DCS is exactly why I've gotten them. Lastly now for real, clickable cockpits give you a reason to recognize the grouping of switches and knobs in terms of their tasks..... usually, anyway:) It helps me, anyway, seeing associations...... a feeble too-much-fun-in-70's memory bank needs such devices:)
  3. skuatioxxd hopefully you're enjoying the F-15 you purchased. I have that, A-10c, Su-33, Mig-29, Black Shark 2. Speaking entirely from my own (green) experience, I can't shake the yearning for full operable cockpit.... all knobs and switches working. I see several suggestions to save a little more and get the F-18...... agreeing, definitely my next purchase..... I assume out of all the aircraft the F-18 is equally A-A as it is A-G. If you prefer A-G, I'd (did) go with A-10c Warthog.... awesome standalone sim; I'd bought in 2012. In A-A combat I've got a long way to go..... not just radar ops but also energy management. Just because the F-15 is (or was) the only aircraft that could accelerate in straight-up vertical climb doesn't mean it can't be stranded in a stall :) Also, don't underestimate the value of learning flight in Su-25T..... "T" is for "trainer" :)
  4. Hopefully this question isn't too tangential, but...... why is there no afterburn capability for the A-10, at least for hastening exit? There's one answer out there that the probability of anyone left to retaliate after a gun run is so low.... but following a strafe or other low-altitude attack, a steep climb can quickly seem sluggish. I wish I could find again the standard exit procedure that minimizes footprint of the plane to ground units, for one of other tactics.
  5. Been wondering this myself...... it has always seemed that it takes a long time and megatons of file activity to frag a HDD drive noticeably. A lifelong friend's career has been focused on top-speed data storage and retrieval on huge-capacity systems; says fragmentation is pretty low on the concerns list, can be scheduled for anticipated low-activity times. However, the SSD info here is appreciated...... another friend insists the benefits are perfectly applicable in this realm. While stuttering can be alleviated by settings changes, I wonder the extent to which an SSD can quicken those mission load times...... in this and other graphics-heavy games? I see in responses "drastically faster loading of Windows and all applications...." I'd like to see a chart to demonstrate SSD's benefit to loading missions...... in 80%, 60%, 50% load times? I once scoffed at the advice of a tech who'd said loading hard drive up with tons of libraries of stock graphics, music, etc. simply raises the strain as the read heads scan the drive...... error detection, validation, etc. on files we seldom access kills efficiency in terms of cumulative time. When my boot drive gets down to low-end free space the sluggishness gets ridiculous. This being in agreement with Soulres' tip on unwanted temp files...... 5,000 ringtones, 10,000 cliparts, 114,947 mp3's....... just bog it down. I sometimes wonder what it is I find so entertaining in crawling progress bars :)
  6. TheHighwayman, thanks in advance for this coveted data...... also, I'm still a green FNG, but something you mention in description is flying an F/18 aggressor, and also that this mission can be modded for other aircraft. The "other" aircraft...... you mean aircraft you currently own, or mods of aircraft by others? I try missions and switch existing plane with another from my collection, but can't see KA-50.
  7. Haven't opened these missions yet, but it's obvious by the number of favorable comments it's got the right stuff. An issue in STOCK training missions with the timeout of narrative text: how about leaving text visible until an assigned key press, such as the Space bar's use "step completed, proceed to next segment" in other steps? Why the timeout at all? Last one..... regarding troubles I've had with multiple monitors (call the main/cockpit screen "A", and a monitor "B" dedicated as a PDF display and/or training video playback screen.....if I'm in-game on "A" and want to "page down" on a PDF in monitor "B", monitor "A" goes black, then when I click it, it has to reload all that terrain and plane..... nutshell version: HOW to get two displays that never step on each other? NVIDIA GTX 970 in case it matters... and BIG TIA.....
  8. Green FNG here concurs; on YouTube there's a couple..... as in less than a few. From one of them I'm trying to create a base (so to speak) upon which to create a beginner's CA mission. I'm foggy on the difference, if any, between an aircraft mission and a CA mission; can we use an existing CA mission, add aircraft and designate a pilot..... with "Player can drive......" options........? OR use an aircraft mission and add player-driveable ground vehicles?? Is a .miz a .miz under any other name?
  9. Now a mere 3 days short of 3 years subsequent to your original post, I wonder if you did switch from Extreme Pro 3D stick, and if so, which stick you went with? A couple days ago one YT training video producer said the Extreme 3D Pro was his current stick of choice. Not too shabby a product, on my 2nd one in 6 years. Re: rudders...... I REALLY like the twist handle. My big problem is slop in the stick; I'm trying to tune the rudder so I don't get so much wobble and spiked turns....... When I worked for DoD support group I had made the acquaintance of an engineer who loved to fly. We'd grab a 2 or 4-seater from Tipton airfield at Ft. Meade in Maryland .... many lunches at 3500 feet over the Chesapeake Bay Bridge :) He gave me the aircraft all the time...... and I hated rudder pedals, ESPECIALLY on taxi. Slop and flop on the ground; I dread the thought of a solo test recovering from a stall. He once pulled one on me...... haul-ass vertical, and hang...... then he says "if the rudder cable breaks, we're history...." Pretty funny to pull one of those maneuvers when least expected..... to him, anyway. I saw somewhere a new idea for some jets..... a lateral port on the outer sides of the engines. Use vectored exhaust instead of a floppy rudder.
  10. Having seen a YT video by a prolific training producer in which he mentions the Extreme 3D Pro (XP3D for brevity) is his current stick, I guess it's safe...not like coming into a Ford GT realm in a Corvette.... My question is about deadzones and curves...... first, can deadzone help compensate for slop in the stick? I'm referring mainly to rudder/twist. I try to flatten my curve by adding deadzone and reduce "Y" saturation. Now, saturation seems to differ from one platform to another......having a few years of BMS Falcon experience, the Microprose settings for stick allow you to adjust THEIR saturation. Higher the number, heavier the plane feels. In A-10c Warthog, trying for a CCIP run fails more often than not because the rudder settings (OR stick itself) turn such a maneuver into a wobble nightmare. Can ya get what I mean about deadzone's value? The slop in the stick is a sort of deadzone in itself. Far as "Y" saturation, it's a setting I never thought could be of any use..... but excellent for pitch and toll. Rudders work only to a certain speed on jets, but even at slow dive speed it just turns into wobble. TIA for ideas!
  11. I've got tools for 3D modeling...... if a library were available, what sorts of generic objects would be of interest? I'm kinda stranded on Social Security disability here, have time on my hands, and it'd be a chance to give back; the clientile 'round here are a bunch of rocket surgeons, unless the excellent info here is bot-generated :) I've been hoping to find a "workflow" diagram in terms of modeling in a package and the OUTPUT file type. I presume ideal objects would be low-as-reasonable count on polygons, and free of bitmap textures/procedural textures. Using pixel shading? Baking involved? I've done detailed modeling of land-based radar such as Doppler, and the PAVEPAWS phased-array early warning/space-junk tracking facility. Read this geometry-based, no NURBS/organic objects (yet). Still kind of a green cherry/FNG with this forum stuff, but ya can't win if ya don't play..... salsantana
  12. First, what an excellent support group here. Wording questions about some things can be as befuddling as the elusive answer. TIA for trying to decipher.... have tried searches on "SPI ground stabilize" but fruitless results. I find steerpoints (which I intend to make SPI) floating a few hundred feet above ground in certain missions..... hunting/pecking with China hat and TMS up, etc. seems futile. Is this a "ground stabilize" step I'm missing? Is there an option that needs to be toggled or is there a button that will put the point on the ground? Much appreciate ideas......
  13. This Updater Utility was just on my wishlist Thank you..... with my collapsed memory issues I paint myself into corners, then figure out what I SHOULD have done, and sometimes it's too late to revert...... i.e; when drag/dropping MODS from users, I read that Modman/JSGME should be considered the ONLY way(s) to manage Mods. Now having troubles with description.lua this, English that, and some "can't won't don't" :) A mild "ARGH!"...... would like very much to avoid reverting to fresh install of World 2.5 and purchased aircraft; this app appears to be worth a try.....success or failure here, thanks either way. Buncha rocket surgeons around hyah :) P.S.: danger danger.....green FNG here. Hope my forum posts/replies are done right.
  14. Oops.... not to flood the thread, but boedha68 you may find that certain 3D file format export types appear across several modeling softwares...... ones I've noticed that are frequently a standard, and note much of what I say is also ripe for clarification....: .FBX (by Autodesk, quite the reliable shared standard with many "internal" parameters for animation, etc.) .OBJ (originally the product of UNIX-based Wavefront software, which was for some time THE 3D system used in forensic analysis, from traffic accidents to airliner disasters to product failure. It's essentially the obligatory "foreign" file format) .3DS (the object format standard of 3D Studio MAX, widely supported in other 3D software, and note that .3DS files are objects only. .DXF (originally the export format in AutoCAD, capable of both 2D and 3D export. Its "parent" format is .DWG, which is also quite widely supported by other 3D packages. IN your pursuit of 3D skills, you can learn much about 3D from the various file formats...... some have limitations on number of vertices and polygons, others output a 4-sided polygon OR trianglular polygon, of course plenty other potential gotcha's.
  15. What a great opener in my pursuit of just these matters...... my 3DStudio, AutoCAD, and Lightwave skills have been dormant for some time..... seeing that there are pathways to DCS World from at least 3DS, the opportunity to work with terrains and objects has potential once again. With many upper-end softwares, learning them without an application (reason) is pretty tough. Anybody think of those dreadful algebra and pre-calc classes? Why learn about matrices and function of x and......... :) Cuz' the world is full of complaints and malcontent, when I see something good I'm compelled to speak....... the comms in this forum are awesome. Beyond civil, downright congenial. Since boedha68 started this, I'll happily spill whatever's left in my oatmealy brain :)
  16. YEAH, can't wait to start 'er up. I grew up essentially on US Naval Academy campus, attended Naval Academy Primary School....my bus stop was outside USNA Chapel where an A-4 and F-4 sat on display..... we'd climb inside the engine cavities hoping for a way into the cockpit :) The Blue Angels flew both of these in the 60's. The A-4's kind of the neglected kid of the bunch, but highly appreciated by many pilots. It may not have the futuristic styling of the F-18 but it was an agile screamer. THANK YOU for this....... a mild case of dream-come-true :) I'd love to see the F-4 Phantom added in future, especially after seeing so many Blue Angels' shows with those beasts and the many stories from pilots I worked with for a decade. There's no thunder like 6 Phantoms on full AB climbing for the fleur-de-lis..... such music.
  17. found the A-4 (!!!) Disregard previous question about A-4....... wander enough I'll stumble upon stuff :) Bet it's awesome, will probably miss the Lyria meteor shower tonight over this..... which is okay. I've seen FAR more meteors BETWEEN showers than during :)
  18. My noobness will be quite apparent in this...... about the A-4E...... is that a module or standalone model by DCS of the greatly underappreciated Skyhawk or of an earlier prop-driven attack plane? I attended a primary school associated with the US Naval Academy in the early 60's. My bus stop was outside the USNA Chapel, where an A-4 Skyhawk and an F-4 Phantom sat on display..... stripped of engines, we'd climb inside the engine cavity trying to figure out any possible way to the cockpit :) The Blue Angels flew both those planes; an F-18 Hornet has also been put on display with the Blue Angels livery.
  19. I'm posting this inquiry MOSTLY because I can't figure out a sensible search term for an answer...... I recently purchased Black Shark 2, F-15c, and Su-33, installed into most recent DCS World 2.5. I'd purchased A-10c in 2012. I was able to access it from World 2.x maybe 2 years ago. However, it was under a different username/different email address. I can access both user accounts, but what I wish to do is integrate my A-10c into my current (and final) "identity". Andrey in tech support sent me the link to "License informational" but nothing there about folding other user identity into one current/final account. HOWEVER..... my best guess is...... Deactivate original A-10c, somehow transfer that ownership to my present account, then reactivate A-10c? What process exists where I can tell World to browse to the A-10c installed directory? thanks in advance..... I should also add that contrary to various opinions and comments I've seen around over some years, the customer relations at DCS was a pleasant surprise.
  20. that "krause" profile, for one...... Howdy MANoWAR.U51...... is that "krause" of BMS Falcon training videos on YouTube? I'm seeking a "return to center" for my Xtreme 3D Pro stick......just learning that a .lua file is ASCII is a big help. In some other flight app/game the return to center is nuilt in; it appears from this series of posts that capability might be accessible by .lua. yet toi see, thanks for the xlnt contribution.
  21. While this thread appears to be a tad over 7 years old, may be worth a try to send a heapin' helpin' of gratitude....... as in THANK YOU! Every time I stumble upon visuals by users around here they're excellent. What put me on this path is pursuit of a "return to center" function for my Xtreme Pro 3D. The Logitech utility I'd abandoned hope for actually turns out to be quite capable...... but..... My biggest question about controllers for any sim/game is how to be confident the stick is under SOLE control of the DCS controls config, or sole control of an external tweaker like XPadder, x360ce, VJoy, etc.???? Tuning curves often appears to change nothing so I'm compelled to try an external tweaker. anyway, thanks at 75% of a decade later :)
  22. Not to drift off-topic, but people who apologize for "bad English" deserve appreciation for how well they're doing so far. I should apologize for my handicap in brevity.... sound the "frustrated writer" alert.... Asian languages treat verbs totally differently to English...... there is no verb conjugation; past and future are addressed with tones and accented syllables, where English and the Romantic languages from which English was created use specific modifications of roots of verbs; that alone is a special challenge for Asian learners. I go. I went. I WILL go. I'm going. Koreans use "ing" quite a lot. Close friend from South Korea would say "so, you gonna having fun when going Ocean City, huh?" Often amusing, actually. My estranged wife's name was Aileen ("eye-lean"). MY friend would ask me "how Irene?", I'd say "it's Irene", he'd say "Oh.... how Aileen?" Sry for ramble, but seeing the message and concerns about language was interesting. In terms of manuals and authoring them in various languages, I greatly envy those with enough skills with a second language to be able to translate such material. thanks for toleratin' from a newcomer! Just learning forum do's and don'ts, sry for any shouldn'ts :)
  23. Just linked to the A-10c material...... not to sound too exuberant, but "stunning" would apply. Nearly superlative..... :) Really well authored and fantastic graphics as well. Big thanks!
  24. "The DCS simulation of the A10C is undoubtably one of the finest achievements in desktop military flight simulation. I hope it stays up there as the scope of what can be done in a PC simulator increases." Could not have said it better...... while saving up for decent "real" stick, using my Extreme 3D Logitech that was beaten horribly in aircraft in BF4, AND that I'm still quite green with this plane, once the axis tuning becomes manageable, it's an incredibly better experience flying.
