  1. O_Edge and others having difficulty with the .exe file....... admittedly a layman's idea here but is your OS virus protection possibly deleting the downloaded .exe? Don't mean to presume anything of your systems savvy; I wish I could totally uninstall Windows Defender, SmartScreen, etc. as it's excessively "helpful".
  2. Not to derail from topic, but I was just now wondering about the Apache's throttles...... far as I know and/or presume, the throttles in helicopters are kept at full while in flight and of course in takeoffs, while power is exclusively controlled by collective........ (this is a question).
  3. Dangerzone, your inquiries echo some of my own about the Apache, and also your points about the UH-1 and Hind 24. My biggest challenge in my initial hours with the Apache is how to deal with rotor RPM and its holistic effects such as overheating and systems failures. I haven't yet found a thread focused on RPM management....... from my personal experience this is quite the challenge but I'm sure that somewhere between propulsion, gravity, and systems tolerances there's a "sweet spot"......... probably a rather narrow window but such is the price for the Apache's incredible agility. I much appreciate the points throughout these responses....... especially the points about aerodynamic surfaces; except for the rudder, the more air traveling over them the better they work. Once again in response to Dangerzone's quite familiar inquiries, the DCS AH-64D's quality of performance, my confidence in its authenticity and available support made this package WELL worth both the $$$ and wait. "What's not to like????"
  4. Wychmaster, again and again thank you for the copious sharing of knowledge in this rather esoteric subject. Soon after last comm I'd flown some Mig-29 missions, went to F6 view of the pizza being delivered to the tanks and POOF!!! I ended up with scrambled SSD boot/game drive, almost as if my system was the actual target. Between reinstall and restoration, and especially downloading the entire World 2.7 AND dozen purchased modules, pursuit of CA skills derailed but back in the saddle now Your last post is full of inspiring ideas; "I think that CA is really a hidden gem.......". Much agreed!!! I am absolutely interested in your vehicle guide idea. Feel free to ping me if you think a 2nd set of eyes (proofreading, casual editing) would be helpful; I've always enjoyed working with technical documentation, spent 40 years as draftsman/tech illustrator/writer/etc. There was a documentary on cable TV years ago about tank school...... wow........ I'd no idea it's in so many ways as demanding, sophisticated, and thorough as flight school. I don't mean to discuss "other" products, but to put it in terms of a wishlist for CA, in the early 90's on Commodore Amiga there was a tank platoon sim "Pacific Islands", and on PC "M1 Tank Platoon". I mention them only as a direction CA could lean if more focused development were to come to be....... they really demonstrated the tactical aspects such as formations, proper use of weaponry. M1 also provided the actual cockpit, which would certainly be necessary for "full fidelity" tanks.
  5. I arrived at this discussion because I was confused at the Status "Delivered" on my receipt for AH-64D, and see no indication of availability in Module Manager. There's a fairly high occurrence of projected dates of availability of the AH-64D in this forum of 2024 or 2025; to paraphrase Jesse Pinkman: "seriously???" At least time accelerates faster by the day at my age; another year or two wait will seem a mere few months.
  6. @Wychmaster WOW!!! A thousand thanks for this!! I've struggled with the mystery of the rounds that I fire at pretty high angle that detonate mere tens of yards away. I know the real-world equipment is capable of delivering a round within yards at ridiculously long range, but as inventory dwindles the reload time continues to increase. "Argh!" says I. I have been wondering about HE vs AP physics....... thanks for the detail on that; I presume it's contingent on weight of AP vs HE, with AP being the heavier round, given the powder in the HE is much lighter........ just my guess. I suppose the max range of any of the MBT's is 3 km or just shy of 2 miles. You got real close in the examples in which you knew the actual distance. That's yet another piece of this technology you've further enlightened me to....... the laser ranging device. I'm ancient enough to recall when the first laser-ranging transits for land surveying came along; always found such equipment quite interesting. There was a fantastic documentary on tank school that revealed a depth of training quite equivalent to flight school; I hope ED continues to develop Combined Arms or at least its documentation and training resources. I wonder if ED will ever add "player-can-drive" ground vehicle cockpits? I've yearned for any tank sim on par with "Pacific Islands" on Amiga or the PC's "M1 Tank Platoon". Yes, I did say "Amiga"...... considering it was the platform upon which "Falcon" flight sim was built and became a worldwide hit, its detailed operations with four groups of tanks was all the more amazing because the entire software was at most 500kB. Your effort very much appreciated, no wasted words. I'll be busy with this stuff for a while
  7. I'm hoping to learn the meaning of, in gunner's sight in the T-90, the steps on the "ladder" (the vertical line with numbered "steps"). If distance is known (and as it appears to be a linear relationship because divisions on ladder are equally spaced), we could come up with a multiplier to give what number on ladder will get you close. If a target is 4 miles away and you hit it when the ladder #8 intersected the target, I assume you'd hit a target 2 miles away when ladder #4 intersected the target. Whatever it takes to conserve ammo and minimize reloads when trying many fire-for-effect shots. Like the feature "Launch Permission Override" in Russian jets, it'd be useful to be able to switch to an instant reload mode in armor at least for figuring out the ladder bars.
  8. Okay...... I see now about collective throttle/PgUp/PgDn...... I'm currently under the impression that the throttle, from takeoff to landing, is used very little, that when set to max the collective handles all ascent and descent load, and even that changing the throttle will drastically change behavior of collective....... I never mean to derail topic, still feeling out the proper stuff. Re: screen....... I assumed it was a video segment rather than screenshot requested. Big appreciation for help........ I will admit I wouldn't mind a game flight mode option for this particular beast but the actual point here is authenticity and a community that settles for no less....."everything but the gravity"
  9. Thank you admiki........ well, by "throttles" I........I might be confused by terminology in Control settings. I understand that Collective controls the pitch of the rotor blades, which I have mapped on the Axis Commands page to the slider on my Logitech Extreme 3D Pro. I also understand that "Throttles" is the control of the RPM of the engines. They are mapped to PgUp and PgDown, respectively, and not mapped to my flight stick...... however, back to the Axis Commands page, there is a control mapping option "Throttles (Collective)". I've had no luck finding what that's about. I've tried it but obviously enough it's not the right choice. I MIGHT have just discovered the culprit, as suggested herewith by Sacarino111. I'll continue seeking the purpose of Throttles (Collective). Also need to learn how to record as you suggested..... I assume that's pretty simple, but considering the mode switch solution, video probably wouldn't have revealed much. thanks again, mate. Thank you, Shmegegge. Game flight mode indeed the culprit. I've wondered if training modules can change "Gameplay" settings for the purpose of the session, and that seems to be the ticket, and certainly makes sense.
  10. Thank you Sacarino111; that "game flight option" is true much of the time, except in Ka-50 occasionally........ I'll switch to simulation mode in System settings to see how it goes. I just switched from Game mode to Sim mode...... voila!! In flight now. Thanks Sacarino.
  11. Good day, well, it could get better if I can just get off the ground. I've exhausted the searches with keyword "takeoff" and to no avail. I've gone through cold-start tutorials and successfully achieved startups; main rotor spinning, but same outcome every time...... as if the blade pitch---despite what the gauges show---just won't "pitch". Throttles at max, collective gauges moving, but it's as if the heli is chained down to the tarmac. SO...... everything in cockpit appears to be as it should; no warning lights or sounds. I'm wondering if there's a common mistake or a single component that will prevent takeoff? The stock training mission for startup and takeoff works fine...... I've flown and enjoyed the flight performance there, and also the guns and rockets training. If I swap my Ka-50 for a Mi-24 in a Ka-50 mission and begin mission airborne, I just drop from the sky. It's as if there's no controller connected. Earlier today I THOUGHT the culprit was in the wheel brake........ as if all I needed to do at end of startup sequence was a Ctrl-W, and off we go. Nope, couldn't be that lucky..... that was ONLY in the startup training mission. In other attempts in other missions, the Wheel Brake light does light up as I engage/disengage it, but no slight lurch of the vehicle...... Only other idea is some controller config issue..... I use Logitech Extreme 3D Pro. Slider (throttle) is mapped to "Collective" in Axis Commands. There's another reference to "collective", paired with "Throttle". Can't find anything that explains that..... any possible connection? Many thanks in advance for any ideas!
  12. I don't mean to be unhelpful, but the startup/takeoff training mission is the ONLY way I can get off the ground and fly...... I've tried everything from cold start to hot takeoffs, but cannot get off the ground any other way. It must be a controller issue; using Logitech Extreme 3D Pro with throttle axis mapped to collective works fine in that training mission...... which, by the way, did occasionally stop around the point you described. Hope you found the culprit. I did a repair/cleanup operation yesterday, reducing freezes in that mission.
  13. Thanks to every one of you for the generous effort...... didn't see a notification for the replies. WIND was the culprit...... all the ideas enormously helpful!!!! Were it possible, I'd have marked each as solution. A little clumsy still with the forum etiquette.
  14. For those using the Logitech Extreme 3D Pro stick, I've mapped base buttons 9 & 10 to TGP OSB's 2 & 3, for A/G and STDBY. Seeing a good bit of mark points mentioned; a habit I'm about to resurrect...... it was really great for multiple MAV's.
  15. RaveyDaveyGravy....... heh, I think I might have spoken a bit ahead of my cerebral capacity about that newbie A-A server, and thanks for the offer. Having roamed the Mig-29 controls settings and the vault of unique capabilities it carries, I've got LOTS of reading and more flying to do before snubbing the AI experience. It'd be one thing to find a Helios profile for clickable cockpit, but that does nothing to reduce the learning the how and why behind the switches I also quite agree with the "design cues". There is certainly an aesthetic consistency across both MiG's and Su's.
  16. It's downloading now, so I'll thank you in advance; I'm sure the authenticity is excellent....... as I grew up in an area in close proximity to several military bases, during the 60's there was fairly frequent presence of the Huey helicopters; I totally loved the sound "thump-thump-thump-thump-thump-thump-thump-thump-...................", especially when those rotors made the window panes rattle---from MILES away The opening scene of "Apocalypse Now" is nostalgic. I have the Blackshark2; the (stock) rotor sounds as you descend and max the collective at 100' or so are REALLY well done. I also have the UH-1H helicopter but find the rotor sounds a little thin, and hope to find how to fatten them up.
  17. I've scoured Captain Zeen's site for a download link of his Helios F-15C profile, had no luck. The existing webpage he's dedicated to the F-15C is bursting at the seams with detailed info, but apparently no download link. Any info on whether the profile's been superseded, retired, or if any alternative links exist will be greatly appreciated. There's plenty of other profiles for aircraft I own from which I can begin learning Helios, but............ I am curious as to why anyone would want to go to such lengths to recreate or revise cockpits for aircraft already fully operable via mouse/joystick, and there's virtually no profiles for the non-clickable fleet (Su-33, Mig-29, Su25T, etc.)? TIA! (My edit: OOPS I didn't notice til just now this is an FC3 forum; my platform is World 2.7 Open Beta......sry 'bout that!)
  18. ResonantCard1 I occasionally hop into Mig-29, but have some issues: 1. It's like flying a hyper-hypersonic missile...... extremely difficult to tame the engines, especially for air-to-ground operations. I recall an expression about a certain as-yet undeveloped nuclear weapon: "Like killing a fly with a sledgehammer" I often wonder if the Mig-29's magnanimous thrust means it can outrun just about any aircraft and/or missile? Would be interesting to stage a drag race between two Mig-29's 2. I'm hopelessly "visual"; imagery speaks a thousand words....... which is much less than the number of words in my rambles (sorry about that; brevity is definitely not my forte). While it's more-than-adequately equipped with keyboard/joystick commands, a mouse-operable cockpit would GREATLY reduce the load on my rather feeble, aged memory And what an awesome job they did in terms of detail and authenticity! 3. An issue that brought me into the forums is the freeze that occurs (only in Mig-29) when I've launched a weapon and switched to "released weapon view" (F6 key)........ upon impact and detonation at the target, my Windows 10 x64 freezes hard; no amount of Esc nor Alt-TAB does anything, can't switch to Desktop; the only way out is to Ctrl-Alt-Del to get to the task manager to "End Task" DCS World. I'm curious as to the creation of a mouse-clickable cockpit by a utility I'd seen around long ago called "Helios". I was under the impression it's similar to creating a webpage with transparent links overlaying the backdrop of the cockpit's panels. I've just found a link to templates by a 'Captain Zeen'; step 1 is to put this far down my procrastination list, if I can get around to it. It'd be pretty cool to hear the flight experiences of a real-world Mig-29 pilot...... it's a BEAST. Other than the extreme speed and personal need for clickable cockpit, it's one of my favorite aircraft both simulated and real-world. I'm also curious as to any beginner-level A-A servers that might exist; the only online gaming I've ever done was in Battlefield 4, where I'd begun to see not just hacker/cheaters, but an audience that apparently laid down their weapons to marvel at the hacker/cheaters' "skills". I can't imagine such a situation in the DCS online realm. I'd actually like to explore the possibility of creating such a server, depending on $$$ required. My edit: Dunno how, but after updating World 2.7 the Mig-29 freeze in F6 view occurs no more. Must have been "the thingy" on line 173,925,871 of the code
  19. Howdy all....... I've been badgered by this issue for some time...... the Bomb Fall Line is always way off centerline of HUD, even with perfectly level wings, and always worst as I near the marked target. I waste a lot of time trying to chase that line; should I not be trying to drive the object at bottom of HUD (refueling port?) onto the line? To top it off, the line will skew to 10-30 degrees off vertical. This is all occurring in CCIP, although in CCRP it also seems the line insists on staying away from center. This could be slop in the rudder axis of my Extreme 3D flight stick, but the heading control in other aircraft works fine.
  20. Thanks to all!!! In my particular case---thanks to Rudel_chw---the "Avionics Language" setting nailed it...... my relationship with Cyrillic ends somewhere between fascination and passive ambition I posted this inquiry a few weeks ago, to the response "What's a Shkval in English?" My goof; I meant ABRIS but only just now learned that.
  21. Kierto, if approximate/close-enough-to-life-size printing is good enough, the way I'd try begins with assumptions based on familiar objects for which it's easy to find dimensions....... the right console looks to be 150% the width of an average forearm (excluding Popeye the Sailor), or perhaps the height of a soft drink can........ really only need one assumed dimension to give you the ratio of enlargement. In whatever graphics app you used (e.g Photoshop) you could draw a reference line on a layer then physically scale, using percentages and of course undo's, until the width of console matches length of reference line. Likely to be some amount of trial-n-error. hope this helped, sry for the ramble and oh yeah THANKS for this excellent long-wished-for product...... I'll presume the pieces of cockpit stitched together are from the textures files?
  22. I've scoured the controls mapping page for how to re-assign laser search to a different key than "C" so I can retrieve China Hat LONG and/or SHORT....... problem is that "C" key now has no such options? The ability to reset that TDC cursor must have been re-assigned; I can't imagine why it'd be ditched. Thanks, hope all are well and this is Day 1 of a much better year
  23. Well...... I just did a clean install of Open Beta, and find my Ka-50 can't climb. I've calibrated my Extreme 3D Pro stick, set controls and can't get more than a hair above 0 on the climb meter. Also getting nowhere trying to get the English Shkval to work.
  24. shagrat and yuron thank you for the info, I need to set up my options for alerting me to responses. all helpful and appreciated. interesting about the .miz files being zip-like. 7-zip just decompressed one for me for a look inside. appreciate as well the cautions on other file types.
  25. I'm using a utility that monitors in background files that change in predesignated directories, which I presume to be exclusively .lua files......(?). After some flights and various changes I made to weapons, etc., no .lua files appeared to be generated nor modified under the World OpenBeta directory and its subs. I imagine there could be others of the .ini or .cfg types; I removed the *.lua inclusion pattern, but still no hits when making changes in, for example, mission editor. I am curious if there exists any documentation like an .lua list and their typical locations? thanks in advance, I hope this isn't a tired old question.
