I can't be doing with the hobbled game browser anymore and wanted something a bit more "up to date", so installed Hyperlobby, but it asks for the location of "lockon.exe", the old .exe (pre-FC2.0) Am I right in assuming that it doesn't work now and we must use the spartan multiplayer GUI / browser where I can’t even sort servers by player numbers, filter out locked servers, etc. It’s a little bit..... :music_whistling: The last few nights I have been itching for an online game and only found a few servers with more than 8-10 people on them

This is Spinal Tap’s F-15 Tachometer
coolts replied to coolts's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
[iNNER MATHS NERD MODE] If a normal gauge went up to ten then, when at full, as a percentage it would be 100%, therefore if it went "up to 11”, then that would be 110%, (of the original "10" maximum), or what you see on the F-15 Tachometer. :smartass: [/iNNER MATHS NERD MODE] ps. Or something. pps. Now you have got me attempting to justify a correlation between Spinal Tap logic and Flight simulation! Mind you,"THRUSTMASTER HOTAS". Nudge nudge :smilewink::smilewink: -
Can you tell me what PRF settings refer to? Thats a new one on me. Azimuth & elevation are all i am used to messing with the radar. .\:|:RUSTLE OF PAGES:/:|.................. Ah, do you mean Long range scan mode? Do you know, i've never ever used it as i assumed that, as i dont usually even see bandits furthur than 40mn, there was no point in using it. I havent even assigned a HOTAS control. I remember using the different bar scan modes in Falcon 4.0 but never LOMAC.... [back to the manual....]

I am running a couple of mods, (new f-15 cockpit and 6dof), but it looks like it's not supposed to go up to 110% from what you guys are saying, (I was thinking of the WEP in IL2 there). I have watched tutorial vids on various F-15 / LOMAC topics and they all go to 100% when at full throttle IIRC. My Cougar throttle shows full range as far as I can make out. Yes, just confused as to why it goes to 110% if all i can get out of it is 100%. My thoughts being, "i want that extra 10% if it’s somehow available" Although, that again, is confusing fan RPM with POWER. The first is simple a measurement normalised into a % value. -
It goes all the way up to 11! (110%). But, even with afterburner on full, mine is at 100%. What is the extra 10% for? (apologies for low rez pic) I assumed that either my throttle wasn’t set up with the full range or that it is a margin for over-RPM, for instance if diving steeply with full afterburners, making the fans turn even more quickly with the sheer volume of air. Or it is actually a McDonnell Douglas / Spinal Tap joke.

The terrain was the most likely cause of my "ghosts". That relates to my earlier worry about motoring along at 30k when everyone else is skulking around in the valleys. The only option seems to be to get my boots muddy, although it seems rather unnatural for a F-15 to be bush flying. My mistake about the "bogey" term, you are right, it was bandits. The terrain was probably the cause of half of my MIA AWACS calls, however, somethimes i will get a real close (30-40miles), call, over water, and, again, nothing there. This has happenned a few times in the campaign, but i am putting it down to my radar clumsiness as the scan zone gate is pretty narrow close up.
-
I underestimated the enhanced sneakiness of online players. I would see a radar spike, say at 3 o'clock, for a few seconds, and then it would go off. I would then turn toward it and start scanning, find nothing, then return to my previous course. It would then pop back up ay my 5-6 o'clock! Very disturbing. Of course, the mind convinces you that you are caught in some web of conspiracies where everyone online is a grizzled cigar chomping moustachioed top gun / chess grand master. Very entertaining though. Once I complete the F-15 campaign convincingly, I will foray online more often. One thing I noticed was that AWACS was constantly calling out bogeys, but when I dutifully went to investigate, there was nothing there most of the time. Does AWACS declare ghosts sometimes? Or as the calls are queued, could these be past messages?

Guys Can someone tell me which .cfg or .lua file has the levels for these controls so i can set them to lower defaults? The defaults are a real "girlfriend annoyer", and i may be forced into using headphones. I dont want to turn all noises down, just the beeping :) , - RAlt - RWR/SPO Sound Signals Volume Down . - RAlt - RWR/SPO Sound Signals Volume Up

FC2.0 supports roll and all the rest. Its limited more than BS but thats because the cockpits arent fully 3d. many mods unlock this to give greater, (almost DCS levels), of 6DOF freedom, as long as you can live with a few artifacts if you jump up in your seat, for instance, then you are good to go. trackIR rocks. Cant, won't fly without it now. More important than a HOTAS & pedals IMO as it improves your situational awareness more than anything else.

On that mission the combat air patrol (CAP) is between wp 2 &3 I believe. Just fly between them,(2 then 3, then back to 2, etc, etc). Don't worry. You will soon have more to worry about than waypoints!

Guys, is it possible to reduce the font size for the messages? It seems rather large. there are font parameters in Chat-say.res \fonttype {font_dejavu_lgc_sans_condensed_12} But i believe thats just for the open chat box

Perfect stick for A-10C from Thrustmaster?
coolts replied to some1's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
[OPTIMISMTIC FRIDAY MODE] They have obviously cunningly waited till all the competition has released their new HOTAS systems and learnt from their shortcomings in order to create a world beating offering, unrivalled in the flexibility of its software and intuitive ergonomics of the hardware. As we wait, their engineers are tweaking and refining, creating the perfect blend of control and comfort [/OPTIMISTIC FRIDAY MODE] [PESSEMISTIC HUNGOVER SATURDAY MORNING MODE] Or the speed brake switch broke [/PESSEMISTIC HUNGOVER SATURDAY MORNING MODE] -
Cool! I will hop on over the weekend. You will know its me as i will be the one trying to read the map in the parachute!

now i can finally relive that boyhood "death star weapons officer" dream and the throttle had better make a "bbbeeeeeeeuuuuuooooooowwww" noise! -
Silly Question, but can anyone join this server? I couldn't see it on my browser. This mission sounds realy cool.

Set up a 1v1 unarmed mission scenario that RedTiger mentioned on the last page. You can test losing the radar lock without getting shot down, (or alternatively, set invulnerability on). I know that a lost RWR signal is not 100% guarantee of a successfully notched radar, but it’s a pretty good guide to begin with. There are loads of discussions on these forums about this, I myself badgered everybody and their gran a few months ago to give me in depth explanations as there is bugger all on youtube, etc. You will get the hang of it mate. The trick seems to be quick, precise movements and that just takes practice. You also can’t realistically do it when the enemy is too close. I agree about the TacView thing though. If some of the more experienced guys would post a ACMI or .TRK............ *EDIT* here's one from A.S. Not on specifics, but worth a watch. http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=54122 Ive watched Ironhands clip on this, but, to be honest, as he was flying the russian bird (and did a 'baywatch style' crossfade just as he was getting to the "money shot" / notching :P), I couldn't make much sense out of it. There seems to be a very specific rule set about missile avoidance with the Beryoza regarding missile range which you dont have in the F-15.

Before the reviews? Thats faith that is. I must admit though, the throttle looks bloody amazing. We have all the competition lined up........Just waiting now........feels familiar :D -
I hear ya. I only mentioned it bacause I was was practicing my "notching" the other day with unarmed drones, laughing at their impotent locks, when BADADAADADADA -parachute! Life laughs at me again

With 2 x HOTAS sticks you could have a mean game of ROBOTRON! -
Easy! Create a mission and dont arm the bad guys! You will hear their angry locking-on sounds on your TEWS. Just dont get too close as they still have cannons

The demo screens of the DX10 version of FSX looked stunning, before it was cancelled. I believe that there are a lot of GPU enhancements that will hand off the processing duties in more efficient ways with DX11+. It’s the old problem of dev time though. What would you rather ED spent time on, the clouds or the planes? SOW looks like it may hopefully raise the bar in terms of environmental modelling, when it ever comes out, but I wonder if they are doing it all in software as its been in development since the DX9 days or so i believe, so cant be using the newer hardware effects. I must say, the demo trailers for that have me very interested in WW2 combat again. Mind you, waiting for Devs to start using advanced shaders / tessellation techniques made possible by advances in DX technologies and GPU may become irrelevant as the era of "cores" could give Devs a realistic and quick way of handling such advanced algorithms. Take the latest FC2.0 patch which effectively hands off all the sound engine chores to a separate thread / core. With quad cores becoming commonplace and 6 cores released, devs taking gambles on GPU technologies may be a thing of the past. Just assign your environment threads to a separate core! If Intel have their way, monolithic GFX cards could be on their way out, (cough 'larrabbee' cough)

FSX had very impressive clouds. A massive FPS killer though, and more than a little glitchy. The main issue is the huge processing involved in modelling any sort of dynamic weather system. A friend of mine had a hand in modelling the BBC weather system, made in New Zealand, (the newish one with CG effects), and even though, the end view is simplified for viewers, the huuuuge amount if processing power required to keep it running would put most comms rooms to shame). In that light, the most we can hope for, unless you just want a weather simulator with a few add on planes, is going to be smoke and mirrors. Mind you, there are no limits to what smoke and mirrors can achieve, just look at the film industry! if i could fly my F-15 to iceland right now..... now theres some clouds!
-
I agree. Wholeheartedly. The learning curve never ends. That’s partly what gives this game its longevity. The first time in mission 2 I broke through the cloud deck, my jaw dropped. Hopefully in future engine advances we will be able to have broken cloud deck. Imagine dropping through a hole and engaging in A-G, then disappearing back through to avoid visually guided AAA and manpads! Just like in the books by William L. Smallwood
