  1. The sweet spot on the Reverb is much better than my Lenovo Explorer for me but there are variables and settings involved and no two folks and machines will be the same. It's not just your IPD but also the distance from your eyes to the front of your face where the headset face pads rest. (both of these settings are adjustable on the Valve Index so the sweet spot should be better for more folks on it if set correctly IMO) Also, I am finding that the SteamVR resolution setting affects the periphery clarity more than the center with how SteamVR works. For me the Reverb sweet spot is large. Someone else who tried my headset with a very large IPD says it is smaller for him. His other facial dimensions may be different as well. He also doesn't wear glasses in the headset like I do. Everything can influence it. I don't think generalities apply too much. I will say that if your IPD is like 63 or 64 mm (mine) it will tend to be larger from everything I have experienced with the Reverb.
  2. There are some of them in the US. I am on my 2nd one. Amazon has it hidden until HP gets their act together on shipping quantities and dates Amazon told me a while back. https://www.amazon.com/HP-Reverb-Virtual-Reality-Headset/dp/B07R768KJP/ref=pd_ybh_a_39?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=W3YP9QJP11W8TVRY6JJH

  4. I really like on the Reverb you can pull the rubber nose piece off and peek at the keyboard. Just over 4 hours on the 2nd Reverb since yesterday.
  5. Great to hear. It's like flying an F-22 with the HP Reverb. You can see them but they can't see you. The folks using TrackIR with a good monitor had an advantage in clarity before but the Reverb equalizes it. Now you can have the best immersion and clarity in VR. The difference is huge between the Reverb and the other new headsets I tried in picking up distant targets/planes in DCS. If that doesn't matter than save a few hundred bucks. The others still look pretty good (a bit better than my Lenovo at 1440 x 1440 and they have masked the SDE more but nothing close to the detail of the Reverb.
  6. You might have to down sample a bit but can likely make it work acceptably. They say in regular (non VR) benchmarks it is only about a 5 FPS drop from a plain 1080. Make sure you can return it for 30 days wherever you buy it just in case you don't like it. RTX 2060 w/ HP Reverb

  8. Too funny - I think It is about beer time... Ok it appears what I read on Reddit about SteamVR from about a year ago is still true. I wish some other Reverb owner would confirm this. These Fresnel lenses are distorted and without some adjustment the center would be larger than the peripheral so SteamVR is making adjustments to eliminate that distortion. Because of this what I see happening and I am not even drinking yet today is that the resolution change in SteamVR is increasing the clarity of the periphery. To test I kicked the resolution down to 80% which is right near 2160 x 2160. The center is very clear and doesn't change but the edges blur out quickly. Then I put the resolution back up to the recommended 106% and Voila - most of the display is pretty darn clear but the center area really hasn't changed. Am I hallucinating? (actually, I let me wife try it and she confirmed it but she may just be agreeing with me. lol) I wish someone else would try it and let us know. I tried the DCS main menu and also filled the display with the desktop (outside of DCS) and got the same results. Thanks.
  9. I put an 1/4" thick rectangle of hard aluminum alloy across the flat side of the connector. I put some electrical tape first, then the aluminum, and then more tape. It is absolutely unmovable now. I am using the desktop in VR for this post. Thinking more like this... I am just hoping that this thing keeps working. It took hours for issues to start on the first one.
  10. I just posted in the Reverb section. The SteamVR resolution setting has totally changed for my new Reverb.
  11. Ok - first flight so to speak on Reverb #2. 1. The new Reverb works perfectly but then so did Reverb #1 for quite a while. Only time will tell. I think I will stabilize the connector with supports on each side and black electrical tape so it is like a cast and can't ever move. The USB plug does seem tighter (the first one moved up and down somewhat) in the PC port but I supported it anyways. 2. SteamVR Settings for video are completely changed with the various updates. To me it looks like WMR/SteamVR was not coded for the Reverb specifically before but now it is. See image below. 3. Clarity is spectacular. I will say there is a slight improvement in clarity but it was already so clear to begin with. A 10% improvement as was suggested for the 1903 fix seems reasonable. (I will try an eye chart test) To me looking at the main menu in DCS is just like looking at the monitor now in VR (also looking at the desktop in the cliff house is the same deal - very clear and no SDE. There was also a tiny bit of shimmer on the left wall in the cliff house when you first appeared there and now it is gone. Obviously, they improved some things but I think that is more WMR and SteamVR than a headset change). Flying the F-18 in Free Flight I am noticing that there is virtually no shimmer at all now but there was only a little before. I may try MSAA off instead of 2X in DCS with this slight change. I will check the carrier deck first. I changed no settings other than the resolution below in SteamVR. FPS is similar. I am still seeing 45 FPS reported by DCS with reprojection on (so you are always seeing 90 FPS). I will do some testing with it off. 4. SteamVR - I had it originally at 180%-188% to get it close to 2160 x 2160. Now it recommends 106% which gives it 2592 x 2536. Go figure. (I will try to lower it to 2160 x 2160 to see if there is any effect on performance and quality/clarity) I know that the headset only receives the native 2160 x 2160 with each frame to minimize processing according to how SteamVR used to be so I have a project to figure out what is happening between WMR, SteamVR, and DCS in terms of how it works by gathering some current info from the vendors. I just have not seen a good comprehensive write-up yet. Plus with so many updates it appears things have changed. 5. This baby really rocks in DCS! I hope it stays that way. :smilewink: I guess the Standard Reverb has a bit different label than the Professional. The only noticeable difference between the two is the material on the face pad and missing the backpack cable. Both feel the same (cloth vs leatherette). Very comfortable. I loosened the straps way up right away and the fit is perfect with glasses. I tried it four separate times now and it always stays at 90 Hz so far. HP told me Steam was making a lot changes for the Reverb. I know the that passthrough camera is still not yet implemented in SteamVR but HP and the Reverb supports it. (It is in the Index but Valve developed/owns Steam) That may be a good reason to move away from SteamVR.
  12. Here I go again. The cable looks identical to the first one.
  13. Did you see this review? Reminds me more of Pimax with the distorted peripherals but it says that these are not Fresnel lenses. Until DisplayPort 1.4 they are having to hold the Refresh Rates down or hit the maximum on data rates. I could not tell any difference between 90 Hz and 120 Hz on the Valve Index but I do notice going from 90 Hz to 60 Hz on the Lenovo or Reverb and I don't care for it. 70 Hz seems somewhat slow for VR. Maybe they can speed that up. 14. We will get to the bottom of how it is supposed to work. I like messing with the these headsets from my IT background. I have contacts now from Microsoft WMR, SteamVR, and HP for that matter (a VR guy) where I can get technical info. from. DCS info. is on the forum pretty much and there is always their technical support. We should be able to map out how it is supposed to be working exactly. It is not supposed to be voodoo like it is because there are layers of software from different vendors. :) We won't be able to figure out why DCS performance is bad when they can't fix it. lol There are many threads on ED doing technical discussions about DCS VR performance and terrain rendering and shadows and on and on. I think they have a combo of their home grown 3D engine plus a third party terrain rendering engine in play. I think I have read most of the threads and some get pretty technical. I tend to benchmark in a known VR application that is benchmarked all over YouTube and then try DCS. My 2nd Reverb is on the UPS truck for delivery and should arrive this afternoon. I will get to play again. The Lenovo Explorer I have works great but the lack of clarity is painful at this point after the clarity of the Reverb. It is my guest headset now.
  15. Not a large US company. If this was regulated like food, medical, or safety issue then maybe. It would just be a spotlight on any issues by making some statement - even to the buyers. They issued a support bulletin if you look for it that kind of covers the issue but blames something else. Typical large corporation. My first Lenovo Explorer nearly shorted out my MB. They had USB shorts and the plug got very hot. It was very common. A Rift S is really a Lenovo. :-) You won;t avoid this on a new product with any of them. Switching to a different one because you had a problem with another is likely not solving anything. One problem for another. They all have warranties and will be fixed. Go with what you think is the best unit for your needs. I see my 2nd Reverb is "Out for Delivery" already on the UPS truck.
  16. I would use the lowest possible settings to achieve nearly (nearly meaning if the picture drops a few percent by greatly lowering some setting but increases FPS by 20% I would leave it) the best picture to achieve the highest performance as you are. Do you have MSAA in DCS at 2X? Did you notice any change with the 1903 WMR resolution fix?
  17. What was the Odyssey Plus vision rating?
  18. I would think the Ti is better although the difference in VR in DCS is minimal IMO. JayTwoCents (YouTube PC guru) claims the extra VRAM helps minimize stutter if app uses most of it like DCS. I don't really know if that is true. DCS seems to gobble up whatever is available - maybe as a cache. UPS sent me an email a while ago on the 2nd Reverb that delivery between 2 pm and 6 pm tomorrow.
  19. One guy in our squadron ordered when they went In-Stock for a bit on the US HP Store and then got an email the next morning that they really weren't. LOL
  20. Exactly! I did a similar test with the Valve Index someone brought over. It's a big difference with the 2160 x 2160 resolution on the Reverb. You don't even know the planes are there (well maybe radar) with the lower resolution. I sat there and compared them back-to-back. For me with glasses the horizontal FOV's were very similar.
  21. If you pay the extra $50 for the Pro it is a 3 yr warranty. It just the hassle of boxing it up shipping it off and being without for a while. I have no doubt they will fix them. Lets see what I get from Best Buy tomorrow as a second one. :joystick:
  22. Is it the Standard or Professional?
  23. I have not seen a real good explanation of SteamVR resolution. This helps me a little if it is still true. The frame that is sent to the headset will always be native headset resolution unless SteamVR has it misidentified. It's meant to cut down on HMD processing onboard. I read that DCS PD is measured as a ratio on the diagonal while SteamVR SuperSampling is measured as percentage on the height and width. PD 1.5 = 225% in SteamVR I have seen it argued each way if it is better to use DCS or SteamVR for resolution/SS. I find using SteamVR much better now. I think that may not have been the case before many updates to DCS. SteamVR: Help me understand Application Resolution and Application Resolution Adjustment With reprojection off in F-18 Free Flight single player sky view - Reverb With reprojection off in F-18 Free Flight single player near terrain and in view - Reverb. Reprojection makes it butter smooth out side of canopy at moderate speeds next to terrain. FPS always shows 45 then.
  24. Thanks. I got a notification from one of the VR headset reviewers on YouTube that the main buttons on the controllers for the Valve Index are designed wrong and he is telling everyone to get them replaced since they are near $300. The main buttons don't click and are hard to press when not near the center. Apparently, this makes them near impossible to use in certain popular games. Valve is saying that is the way they are designed but is being pressured to fix them. Even the WMR controllers which aren't that great have the main buttons that do work correctly. I don't use them but for the price many aren't too happy with the Index controllers. It's amazing that these things are in development for so long and still slip through the cracks.
  25. I got shipping notification (Text message and email) on the Reverb from Best Buy. UPS.
