  1. The A was required to because dry thrust wasn't sufficient for it to take off with a near maximum load.
  2. This looks nice, much nicer reflectivity on the wing panels than on the vanilla skins.
  3. Confirming. The CASE III quick mission in the Hornet has you landing on a dark deck even after communicating your intent to land.
  4. Very nice photo! I actually dug through the skins folder again and looked at various skin files - some use the exact same color for wing and control surfaces, while others look like this: Converted from dds. The wing surfaces are lighter in color when your pic shows that if anything, the opposite is the case. Plus, there seems to be no reflection going on at all. Something is definitely off about the wing texture and degree of gloss.
  5. Tell you what, I cannot check the veracity of your statement without having access to the plane. Give it to me and I will get back to you after I remember I'm actually wearing VR goggles and should probably have eaten dinner two days ago. :megalol::helpsmilie:
  6. Well, it turns out the wings were indeed coated. First with filler for increased aerodynamic performance, then with aluminum paint as to equalize the look between the wing and fuselage skin. https://forum.keypublishing.com/forum/historic-aviation/141825-p51-mustang-wings-painted-or-not So the wing color is and should certainly be less shiny than the fuselage, but I still think the ingame representation is off, judging by the picture of the flying P-51D in the thread I linked.
  7. The wings aren't painted. If you take a look at the files, the wing textures are the same kind of gray as the fuselage. The only difference is that one actually has metallic reflections implemented and the other does not, for whatever reason. What's more, that stock bare metal skin? Its wings aren't reflective, either. Regarding your camouflage comment, I said 'generally' - as in, not specifically referring to the P-51 and the fact it was generally flown without the added weight and drag of a paintjob.
  8. That doesn't even make sense. The impeller is a mechanically driven two-speed supercharger. MAP above a selected power setting's critical altitude should only be dependent on ram air effect and engine RPM for the same altitude since the power required for actually turning that impeller gets deducted from the engine's gross hp output. E: I did some testing just now. The reason you're encountering what at first seems to be a discrepancy is because once you engage WEP, the game redefines the throttle axis - what was the throttle position for 61" up to critical altitude just shy of the wire break will give you around 66.5" once you switch emergency power on. The throttle position for 61" at SL is now at around the 2/3 open position on the throttle. As you climb, you can regulate the throttle to give you 61" up to and through the wire break, which will top out at around 11k ft, the same as with full throttle without switching over to emergency power. THe question I feel should be asked is whether the throttle behavior is an accurate representation, or if the last 6" of MAP were actually condensed down into what little additional travel the throttle could do past the wire break. Funnily enough, I'm actually getting a higher critical altitude during climb at 67" than what this test says it should be - around 7900 ft compared to just shy of 5000 ft. That said, as the emergency power climb test was a standalone, it should be taken with a massive grain of salt. The ones where I was running the engine at 61" - once with and once without the wire cut - were done under the same meteorological conditions and can be compared with each other without issue.
  9. Yeah, generally speaking, you don't want glossy camouflage paint as it defeats the purpose.
  10. I have a sneaking suspicion someone forgot to add PBR wing textures to the current release build. All the bare metal skins ingame have wing textures that aren't reflective at all.
  11. Finally felt up to testing out the S despite my cold. Did 3 crosswind takeoffs and landings. Didn't blow any tires, but I would've been grounded after either landing, the plane kept trying to turn into the wind so much I could barely keep it on the strip. Even more importantly, I didn't tailstrike even during that one time I accidentally took off with flaps retracted. *phew* I didn't touch the trim controls on the ground, I just started to apply a bit of backpressure on the stick once the speed indicator went above 200 kph at full burner.
  12. According to this graph, there are takeoff speeds that come ingame with a significant risk of blowing a tire. Or has that been fixed in the new patch?
  13. I believe they ended up rigging the analogue system to be compatible with MIL-STD 1553 in the early 90s.
  14. Since someone has already taken the liberty of resurrecting ths thread, why do you think Doppler shift is irrelevant for the IHAWK? If anything, it's more relevant because the missile's speed relative to its launching unit is much higher, and as such it's really not much different from an air-launched weapon. Of course, you can always argue the IHAWK ground station uses a slightly upshifted frequency to accommodate its missile, but that doesn't account for the fact the missile's speed (absolute and relative to its launcher) varies greatly along its flight path. The missile has to be able to track in spite of that, and there I'm finding myself asking if guidance from a tuned AWG-9 really does make as much of a difference as you said it does.
  15. But which versions of the MiG-29 existed and were flown at airshows back in 1991?
  16. Left rudder input, rudder control surface moved left, instrument says nose is yawed to the left. What's the issue?
  17. I didn't actually find it very jarring at all during the stream. Noticable, but not terrible.
  18. TBH I think it needs to be a certain size in case they're making it clickable - which would IMO be the way to go for players using VR.
  19. Phew, had me scared there for a minute! Thanks for your quick answer!
  20. For clarification, does this apply to customers who bought the Phoenix gift card *only* or does it apply to customers who bought the Phoenix gift card *and above*?
  21. You need to wait for ED to update their database with keys from the HB store. Then you login to your account on DCS.com, go into your profile and paste the key in the field that says 'License Check'. Then add it to your account. BTW I just checked, the keys haven't been added yet.
  22. Signed up as well. Even though I've already preordered, I have a bunch of friends who can't afford the module right now, and one of them would be the recipient of your key.
  23. From what I've been told by email, the code you received by email is actually the one you need to register the game...that is, once ED update their database.
  24. Yeah, same...that was my last permitted access, too.
