  3. I have to admit, I've never felt the need to use curves in any DCS module, nor for any plane in IL-2 BoX - or any other simulator that I've ever played, come to think of it. That said, I actually had to remove the upper ~30% of the DCS Spitfire's elevator axis travel for fear of inadvertedly stalling the plane, but that's mostly a limitation of my not owning a stick extension yet. I'm looking forward to removing it next week. I've always found it strange a lot of people seem to consider curves to be the go-to method if you don't have a stick extension, sometimes even if you have one. The sudden increase in plane response has in practice always served to put me into the ground on conditions other than my own, with...final results.
  4. You can actually see the pilot has the FCS page open on the right DDI and what appears to be the HSI on the MPCD. The left DDI appears to display the HUD mirror.
  5. Confirming, a lot of keybinds don't work for me. For instance I had to rebind the commands for extending and retracting the speedbrake as well as opening the comm menu, yet flaps, gear and refueling probe bindings were completely unaffected and continued to work.

  9. If you think about it, it's actually logical why higher humidity decreases air density. Well over 99% of the gases in the air have a molar weight of 28 g/mol or more whereas water's is 18 g/mol. As gas pressure is a function of molecules per volume, their weight is utterly irrelevant, and higher humidity causes the mean molar weight of the gas mixture to drop, which consequently leads to lower air density. n = R * T/(p * V)

  11. The Sparrow should be capable of LOAL. I haven't tried personally, but it should be possible to launch it without having a target locked, i.e. in FLOOD mode (not implemented yet) or with the radar in RWS, then locking a target afterwards.
  12. But frontal area is just one aspect of drag, and I'm not convinced the Mirage has significantly less than the Hornet, especially once you factor in thrust.
  13. You're not required to have the Stores page open on any MFCD to be able to launch or release weapons. You only need it to give you an overview of what you still have onboard and to set up how you'd like to ruin the other guys' day, generally speaking. Just plain launching the AIM-7 can be done by selecting it (which also immediately puts you into A/A mode), locking a target with your radar inn any mode, then pulling the trigger once you're lined up. This is not the Weapon Release button, that one's for A/G ordnance exclusively.

Actually, while you're correct in that position error comes into play with speed measurement as you increase your altitude, a lot of that can actually be attributed to highly varying alpha at low speeds, transonic effects inside the tube as well as the inherent inaccuracy of the system itself once you go really fast. The pitot tube itself on a plane is actually a pitot-static system which has two pressure sensors, one for ram air pressure, and one for ambient air pressure, and only both of these values let the instrument in the pit display a halfway decent approximation of the speed you're actually going at. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pitot-static_system And that said, I believe pitot tubes are actually pretty accurate nowadays as PEC can be incorporated digitally into the displayed reading at all times.
  15. M1.5 is 1852 kph only at sea level. As soon as you start climbing up into the atmosphere, the speed of sound decreases as it's dependent on ambient temperature and pressure. As Mach factor is a dimension derived from the speed of sound, its value in absolute airspeed also decreases.

  19. In the first line here, a 'CROSS WT' of 220 lbs is specified. I'm assuming it's meant to read 'GROSS WT'. In the second line, the 'ROCKET MORO' is specified as an 'MR 58 MOD 5'. I'm assuming it's meant to read 'ROCKET MOTOR' and 'MK 58 MOD 5'. In the third line, an 'MSN' is mentioned, followed by a numeric code formatted like a NATO Stock Number (NSN). Therefore I'm assuming it's meant to read 'NSN' on the missile, too. (Also, is the classification group for AAMs really 1337? I mean, seriously?) BTW this is entirely your fault, ED. You modeled the pylons and lauch rails in such detail I couldn't help but take a peek. :music_whistling:
