Will part of logistics overhaul include improved animations and new animations? Troops walking naturally, loading into helicopters visibly, a ground crew visibly loading and unloading? Things to make the logistics "feel alive"? That would be very cool. Will there be visible cargo, not just pallets, but vehicles, etc?
-
I’d also like to know this. But more so, so that I can budget space in advance to be able to ensure I can use it.

Heatblur extended the pre order discount for the first week of sales on Steam due to valve’s stipulations on preorders. In order to honor Steam customers, will ED do something similar on launch?

Pimax Crystal Light - is no DFR a deal breaker for DCS?
dsc106 replied to dsc106's topic in Virtual Reality
I mean, there's a lot of people who want a 5090 + DFR quadviews... We are all still making compromises at this point. The compromises you will make depend on your budget, values, and preferences. But if the choice is between 4090 + Crystal Super or 5090 + Crystal Light, this might partially come down to some of the questions I was asking before about how neccessary oversampling is on high resolution headsets. To me the clear choice would be a 5090 + Crystal Light Eye Tracking edition, but that doesn't exist, so I'm here trying to figure out what to do myself! -
Pimax Crystal Light - is no DFR a deal breaker for DCS?
dsc106 replied to dsc106's topic in Virtual Reality
I've seen some discussion that the traditional advice of needing to oversample the headsets by ~150% to correct for lens barrel distortion is something of a myth. I do not know what to make of that. Can anyone shed insight? I run my G2 at 3100x3100 (150% oversampled as recommended, this is considered 100% in software). If I run the Crystal Light at Pimax's balanced setting, it will require something like 3100x3800. But their maximum mode (150% horizontal and 180% vertical oversample) is 4200x5100. The question is, what if I run the Crystal Light at 3100x3800? Will it still look substantially better than the Reverb G2, without any bothersome distortion? Or should I really need to plan to run this at a more traditional 4200x5100? It is important to note that I plan to use DLSS Quality. I remember a discussion that found that people using DLSS when oversampling their headsets had good results. People trying to use DLSS running their headset at the native resolution (ie 2100x2100 on the G2) had very poor results. So this may factor in. Regarding FFR, I really want to be able to glance down at cockpit instruments, or glance around to peripheral during a dogfight, and make use of that extra FOV. But maybe I can still get a little benefit by using FFR quadviews in a wider circle and still inch out maybe +10 FPS? I know, I know. More to come with reviews. But the thing is, the existing Crystal is out there and the panels are the same. So perhaps users of the Crystal can shed light on these oversampling and FFR questions. RE: the RTX 5090, just google RTX 5090, there have been a number of rumors and leaks and the card doesnt seem to be very far out at this point. Take them with a grain of salt, but also, the RTX 4090 rumors at this time in the release cycle turned out to be exactly accurate, so... -
I've got a 4090 & Reverb G2, but I like to play low level rotor wing over dense areas and single player scripted campaign missions. FPS is still a challenge even with most things on high but flat shadows at low, so I still use 45fps Motion Reprojection & DLSS Quality in OpenXR. Looking at my frametimes, I suspect I could do locked 72fps if the G2 had it, but it doesn't. My benchmark is Reflected's Marianas Paradise Lost campaign in the rain. I'd love to upgrade to a 5090 this fall, and thus go to a locked 72fps and high shadow quality (DLSS Quality) on a Pimax Crystal Light (2800x2800 panel, but I believe the Crystal looks best at 4200x5100 resolution scaling to correct for barrel distortion, as that is considered "100%"?). But without Quadviews DFR, I am afraid it will just be too much even then - The G2 at 100% scale is 3100x3100 and 9.7 million pixels. Jumping to the Crystal Light's native scaled resolution of 4200x5100 is a jump to 22 million pixels, over double the demand on the GPU. The 5090 is rumored for a 70% performance uplift. If DCS implements VR Render Graph for a big jump in VR performance, then mmaayybbeee I can achieve it on the Crystal Light... Anyway. I am wondering for any insights here. Do you think the Crystal Light w/out DFR will be sufficient? Sure, we have Quadviews FFR which can help, but part of a larger FOV is to allow you to use your gaze when dogfighting or looking around the cockpit and without DFR, that FFR region won't look great.

It seems to me that the devs are perfectionists and took a “one massive update to rule them all” approach here rather than an incremental rolling out of new assets, airfields, bug fixes. I don’t doubt that @OnReTech will come through and deliver, but as a new developer, I think an important lesson can be learned here: incremental can be better than one giant update, and more accurate timelines with clear ongoing communication is important. I have no feeling of being scammed or regretting the purchase, I simply think the good intentions of the dev have taken much longer than anticipated and that they have a few things to learn about communications, project scheduling, and more incremental updates.

Next level racing HF8 haptic seat pad & DCS
dsc106 replied to markturner1960's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Thank you for sharing. How long did you have Andre's prior to failure, and how many hours estimate? (just a ballpark is fine). It sounds like the subtler vibration effects still suit immersion just fine for your tastes? I also have a buttkicker I would pair, so maybe the stronger feeling from buttkicker + subtlety from the HF8 wouldn't be so bad? -

Can anyone offer a more updated direct comparison between the NLR HF8, Andre’s jetseat, and Andre’s jetpad? I’ve read conflicting things, everything from the HF8 is an upgrade, to its weaker, etc. I’d be using SSA - in fact I’m using it now with a buttkicker, and so the HF8 or jetpad would be in addition. -
Same question and concern. I don’t enjoy managing MFD and electronic systems. And I like helicopters for the seat of your pants fun/challenging flying experience. what will it be like to PLAY this module? How will it be like to FLY it? Is this going to be a pretty on rails flight experience, focused mostly on systems management? is the main draw the team work and coordination for logistics? It sounds like the flying portion may be of limited interest?

Andre, this is cool! Thanks! I have an additional question for you. I just came here trying to find a way to get helicopter mods to work: most importantly the new OH-6A Loach mod, and secondly, the older classic UH-60L mod. I had seen some people on reddit mention that you could take the Huey LUA file and transplant them over, or something like that? I see this tool uses SU-27 and I am not sure if it would work well with helicopters. I see you added a couple custom slots here and reserved some for future use. Anyway you could update this tool with a couple slots for these extremely popular helicopter mods? (Especially since they may function distinctly than aircraft mods based upon the SU-27?). Thanks so much! NOTE TO ALL: Also if anyone else in the thread here knows of an optimal way to get rotor bass shaker effects working with helicopter mods, input is welcome! -
Hi, can you please be more specific, what precisely is the criteria failing to be met by Steam pre orders? It has never been a problem in the past. What, exactly, changed? This is a big deal as it is impacting now the Phantom, Afghanistan, and finally the Chinook. It makes us loyal Steam customers feel like 2nd rate citizens. In a constructive request, barring any other solution, can you offer the 30% Pre Order pricing on Steam on the day of launch for the first 24 hours? Or get the pre order live several days before it officially announces?

They said “June 26”?

Where is the Steam pre order?

Tried to preorder on steam, not possible. When will the Steam pre order be live? -
Looking forward to this! I was also left a bit confused from Nick’s interview and from the last newsletter. Is the Afghanistan map also launching in 2024, or is that “beyond”?

Phantoms Phorever. PRE-ORDER & REVEAL Trailer
dsc106 replied to IronMike's topic in DCS: F-4E Phantom
@IronMike The FAQ said that ED & Steam store pre-orders will be available shortly after launching on the Heatblur store, saying it was “expected in the week following.” 2.5 weeks later, it is on the ED store but still not available on Steam. It seems this isn’t a Steam side delay since the listing has been up, but unavailable, for some time. When is the Steam pre order expected to go live? Looking forward to this module! -
How do you know if you qualify? Is it based on people who run it most, or fastest, or both? If you practice and run too slow too often does it disqualify you? Or is it only if you cross a certain threshold at least once when you qualify? Once you qualify, can it be revoked if you underperform in later runs?
-
This looks fun! So you can practice on the qualification server as much as you want without it impacting whether you qualify? Or is there a map to download? I have been running the old Huey FM via the text edit, but I suppose to be competitive I will have to revert to the new current FM eh?

5950x, RTX 4090, Reverb G2, motion reprojection locked at 45fps, mostly high graphic settings, DLSS Quality. MT Preview Build. Steam version. OpenXR. Tried with HAGs on & off, DLSS on & off. Vsync is off in NVIDA control panel, power management at max performance. Cleared FXO/Metashaders folders. I didn't have this issue previously, it has started after 2.9. I've always run 45fps motion reprojection to turn on more eye candy. I favor low level helicopter flight, often in maps with a lot going on. Even when my FPS is high and frame times are good & low (9-12ms) I will get micro stuttering near the ground or near objects, IE looking down at ground or out side of cockpit near buildings. No frame drops though. Up high, all good. I believe it gets worse when I get higher frametimes (14-19ms) with less overhead, but it is not exclusive to this. And previously, things would remain smooth even at the higher frame times as long as my FPS stayed constant. Again, this wasn't an issue in the past that I recall. Poking around, it seems other VR users have experienced this sort of "judder" or "micro stutter" in VR in similar scenarios. Any fixes? Is this a known issue?

Is this suggesting a launch on the 80th anniversary next year in June? Or should we expect launch sooner (ie by EOY)?

Phantoms Phorever. PRE-ORDER & REVEAL Trailer
dsc106 replied to IronMike's topic in DCS: F-4E Phantom
Also waiting to hear on when this will be available for steam pre-order. And chiming in with a feature request. This manual overlay is awesome. I am requesting the ability to import a custom PDF(s) and to tab through the documents while in game. Including in VR. While the official manual looks much better than most modules I know I will still love chucks guide when it lands, and it would be very cool to be able to pull his PDF guide up in game while in VR to go through steps and reference things. -
Shoot! Well, thanks for the kind reply. And obviously your quality comes from being both familiar and passionate about an aircraft, so I understand. I am thankful we will be getting F-4 content from you!! And of course, looking forward the Kola F16 campaign and the upcoming P51 campaign
