Heh I thought it made a huge performance boost. I so thought my flying abilities had made a huge boost. Then I realized simple flight model was turned on lol

Same, I can't wait. I loved the A-10 when I was a kid and with that HOTAS coming out for the sim this should be the closest I'll ever get to flying one. I'm very excited.

Interesting bit of information. Thanks

I agree. I was actually a bit disappointed with the infantry model in this game. I know helicopters aren't all about getting called in to support the infantry, but as a former infantryman myself I have a bit of a soft spot for 'em. Hopefully we'll have some better infantry fighters in A-10. It'd be pretty cool to get called into a grid, have the infantry pop smoke and tell you the enemy's north of that smoke. Lasers too so they can't laze a big 'ol bunker at night for you to drop a JDAM on or something. We did get some CAS with BlackShark, but I still felt like it could have been a bit more involved. I guess specifics are in order though so if it's possible I'd like to see: The ability to have less accurate units for longer firefights See infantry move out of the open and into the wood line if engaged and outnumbered Fighting positions Ability to have guys laze targets (I know smoke is already in game) Infantry goes prone Machine gunner units (put more rounds downrange, make the firefights look more 'alive') Don't know how possible it would be but dynamic mount/dismount. This is a bit of a stretch I think but it could be fun. Units that try to run (all of them). Have them hide in cities, have them fish bone and return fire, etc. Right not units just kinda rumble along waiting to get shot. Have units fire at different targets, it seems like they all concentrate on the same one. In general give the infantry more life. Right now they just walk until they take a knee and die. Also in general have units react to fire. If not dynamic then make a "under fire" header where we can put in way points. That way if the line starts getting hit we can have units pull back and such. Just a few things I'd like to see to make the ground seem more 'alive'. The sim itself (DCS:BS, wish I had A-10 lol) is absolutely the most fantastic thing on my computer now (RoF in close second), but it seems like a little work on the targets could go a long way.

will these be included in a future version of dcs?

is it still worth it to buy blackshark?
My Fing ID replied to kingneptune117's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
The only reason I'd steer you away is because you said you're not interested in helicopters. That said if you do have some lingering interest in flying helos, then you should definitely get this sim. Don't worry about it not being a US aircraft, I have the same 'problem' if you will, but I learned to love this thing quick. It's behind current aircraft tech wise (no IR, RWS, etc) but it's damn fun to fly. 40 bucks for this game is a steal. Like was said above, the real cost comes when you get hooked and start building your virtual pilot seat. This game basically made me get a X52, rudder pedals, and a TrackIR. Highly recommend all of those. It's as close as you can get to the real thing. Then again since you're getting the A10 sim, you might wanna wait until the A10 stick and throttle come out. I'm not looking forwards to dropping more money on another joystick, but I know it's going to bug the hell out of me if I don't have that stick while flying the hog lol So yeah, I'm sure that didn't help at all. Go try a random (good) helicopter sim demo. If you like it, get this game. -
I dunno but I can't wait. I'd buy it now if they have a working version. Hopefully they'll do a bit of a work up on the infantry, with this being CAS and all. Anyways, I'm ready to fly it, can't wait.

Next DCS (US) Fixed Wing Aircraft Wish List

Predator drone. Push a button, grab some coffee. -
lol very true. I remember back when I joined the army and talked to a sergeant about this. He said to look at who's shooting what way and who's supposed to be where. I've been doing that and so far haven't killed a friendly yet!
-
I'll have to try that. I find identification to be the biggest problem.
-
If you're asking what I think you're asking go get google earth. The in game map ends about where South Ossetia begins, but you can easily line up some of the larger cities like Gali.
-
Personally I still use the old one. Too easy to lose control in a tense situation if you don't recenter it just so.

Can we get some news for march? a post? a trailer?
My Fing ID replied to hannibal's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
I heard the first detent was to engage some AP and stablize the plane to make aiming the cannon easier, second fires the cannon. It would be cool if they'd leak some videos and notes so we can read up on just how all the systems work. -

In the same boat. I tried the old lock on demo but the clickable cockpit of Blackshark spoiled me and now I really can't go back to just seeing a bunch of dials without being able to reach out and touch them. Hope that A-10 controller won't be too much either because I'm going to get it eventually. X52 has a double trigger so atleast I won't be missing out too much until then :pilotfly: Well once A10 is out atleast. Waiting is so hard some times. Maybe they could do what MMOs are doing now adays and sell preorders with beta access! Doubt it would happen, but hell I'd pay extra at this point. -
Thought the same thing, and the countermeasures are on the other side with a 2 other boxes to the right. Interesting. So cool to see the real thing and be able to say "damn, I could turn on the strobe light!" edit: looked like a recorder or something above too. Cool stuff, thanks for the post.

long flight, over the mountains or around?
My Fing ID replied to My Fing ID's topic in User Created Missions General
Cool. OK, looks like I'm keeping over the mountain, speed probably 250 (hour flight, not that bad), and 2 tanks rather than 4. That should be plenty of fuel. Thanks for the input. -
long flight, over the mountains or around?
My Fing ID replied to My Fing ID's topic in User Created Missions General
I did a test flight yesterday. Funny, I never really thought it would be fun to play for 1 1/2 hours without shooting anything but it was. I used 4 tanks and had to correct the AP route a few times (almost slammed into hills). I also had to max out the collective a few times which I don't like doing, but it all went over pretty well. I had a ton of fuel left so I'll try with 2 tanks. I'm guessing the fuel gauge won't drop while the external tanks have fuel. If I remember correctly the externals feed the internal tank which is the only one measured. Not 100% on that. Anyways thank you for the information. -
Hi. I'm making a mission where the objective is to move from one airfield to another (deployment in a different airfield). The fields are about 250km apart separated by a mountain range. Would it be more realistic to go over that range, following the ravines (gets up to 2000m) or would it be more realistic to fly around it. Currently I'm using 4 external fuel tanks, which I plan to cut down to 2. Should I even be using external fuel tanks? I'm not quiet sure what the range is for the helicopter in cruise conditions. I was planning to fly at between 200km/h and 250km/h, it's at least an hour long mission. Is that speed too fast for a movement mission? Any advice would be helpful. I don't know how military aviation works. I was infantry so I have some idea how the ground works, but I think the air is pretty different. Anyone able to confirm or deny?

Is there any work being done on DCS BS?
My Fing ID replied to H-street's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
Can't wait on A-10. -
I use this all the time and it works pretty well. I bound the collective brake to the m-wheel on my x52 throttle, so every time I change collective, I push in the wheel, then release when I'm where I want to be. Anyways the key is to balance out the collective. If it's high, you'll still go high. Low you'll still go low. Try to keep it where you think it needs to be to hover and release the brake. Then watch your meter to the upper left. If you're still going high or low, make a small adjustment. There's a pretty small zone where the alt hold actually works, but it's there.
-
reminds me of one of the first F22 sims. I heard they generated their own cockpit thinking about how the f22 would be and there were asked if they had some leaked info.
-
True but that goes to the point, you're flying low in a helo. It seems almost pointless to have it. Again I wouldn't want to fly without, I mean knowing it's there would be a huge comfort, but in my experience it seems almost pointless. Then again maybe I'm just flying too low.
-
Not saying I wouldn't want one if I was actually flying the copter. I most certainly would want one! However, most engagements of mine are under 100m. It seems that by the time I've taken the hit and realize that I'm not going to recover from it, I'm either upside down or sideways or I've already hit the ground. I will say the last time I ejected was a good one, and one that makes me appreciate the zero/zero capabilities of the system. I was hit hard, slowly drifted from about 20 meters down. My right engine was on fire and it was just getting worse. So, from belly on the ground (no time for gear), I ejected. Copter blew up a few seconds later, and my pilot was just standing there, the AAA that got me in plain view now. Anyways, thoughts, great ejection stories? I mean I'd post more but most my stories are sad cases of being rocketed head first into the ground from 30m.

Best way to strafe with gun or rockets?
My Fing ID replied to Prophet4no1's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
Use the switch to your lower left by the auto hover options to lock your gun. I'd stick with a high rate of fire as well and be prepared to walk rounds in rather than try for 1 shot 1 kills. One of my favorite scenarios involves a column of trucks with 2 BDRMs in front and 3 more in the rear. Sometimes I get them, sometimes they get me. Usually my engines are so shot up I can't get back to base and I'm stuck on the ground next to the burning convoy. Would not recommend strafing IRL lol.
