Perfect stick for A-10C from Thrustmaster?
Frogfoot1606687865 replied to some1's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
new update on Thrustmasters site Hotas Warthog Replica set of the U.S. Air Force A-10C’s joystick, dual throttle system and control panel Hotas Warthog attack group in final approach phase. Leader to team members: tune in to the http://www.thrustmaster.com frequency only, to avoid any risk of misinformation. Authentication confirmed of acquisition parameters at €399 following the prescribed plan of action. Next contact at 19.05.2010 for more specific details on implementation procedures. -
I too hope it has been addressed in the upcoming patch. I have also done some further investigation with regards to doing an INU update in the game. This also seems to be broken. I set an update point at a good landmark, and at about 10 k out I did a update (so if it was working correctly the inu and ABRIS would be 10 k adrift. However the INU self co-ords did not change. and the auto pilot continued to fly to my destination without the deliberate error. (i was expecting to be 10k out at my final destination. Any Ideas? Tom

I just stumbled upon an interesting fact. I was sure I had seen nav errors in the ABRIS on one of the many videos on BS, do I had a quick scan through them. The one from SimHQ shows clearly the ABRIS losing satallite fix and drifting at about 5:10. So it looks like the patch may have broken it. Tom

As a further test I just started up the 'Shooting Gallery' mission and manually disabled all the visible satellites, (50,51,52,45,46,44,35 and 34) and gradually degraded the system from 3D to 2D then to NAV error, and was able to fly for a whole tank of fuel (at 32x real time) and the whole time the ABRIS showed NAV ERROR but the AMMS and ALT functions worked fine. Something definitely not right here. Tom

Frederf, the manual actually states that some type of redundency exists in the system, however I am sure it is not modled correctly. 'Calculations of aircraft motion parameters in case of the GNSS failure, using the last received data on the ground speed and actual track angle. This mode is used for one minute after the GNSS failure, whereupon the NAV ERROR message is displayed' Tom

In the real KA50 that may well be the case but in the simulation satellite availability does not seem to effect the functioning of the ABRIS. You can test this for yourself by setting up a new mission with just georgia on red and add a KA50 and fly about you will see NAV ERROR on the ABRIS and no satellites on GNSS page, however the moving map will display your position and altitude correctly. The ABRIS does have a feed from the RADALT, and this can be seen by turning off the k-041 and checking the MENU page on the ABRIS, you get and Altitude sensor error, However with no satellites and no RAD alt input the ABRIS still shows the correct altitude data. So my 'Silly' assumption was that there must be some redundancy built into the system, namely that the INU is connected to the ABRIS. This is quite common on Nav systems, where the 'drift errors' of the INU can be corrected when the GPS/GNSS has an acceptable PDOP/HDOP and conversely the AMMS can revert back to a lower precision sensor when the primary system (GPS/GNSS) fails or degrades. Hell even the satnav in my car has an 'inu' input, if I drive through a tunnel and lose GPS signal the speed of the vehicle is used to update the moving map until I emerge at the other end. Tom

Question about upcoming patch. Hi, has there been any word on what if any fixes/improvements will be incorperated in the upcoming Blackshark patch, other than the FC2 compatability and new sound engine? Cheers Tom
-
Not that it really matters, as without INU drift being incorporated the ABRIS seems to be just as accurate with or without satellite coverage. It would be great if it was modeled as then you could put in a few INU fix positions over bridges / Radio Towers on the way to the TP, as inyour scenario you wouldnt necessarily have GPS/GLONASS. You would need to include detailed notes on the fix points in your Brief. It has always anoyed me with the Georgian Oil war campaign that INU fix points were included on many missions but with no indication of what to use as the fix point. (The ECRAN would warn the you were within range of the fix point, but without a note in the brief it was pointless.) Tom

The GUI manual states "When creating missions, it is up to you to decide who will be allied with whom. You are free to create realistic alliances or make very fanciful ones. We leave it to you to decide. Note the countries you place in a mission will determine the type of navigation satellite coverage available. For example: for GPS coverage, USA must be included in the mission." I assume this then mean that only Russia has access to the GNSS satalites and not Georgia. Tom

Well, I have just done a fresh install, and patched up to 1.01c and tried to replicate your settings. I get 21 fps on the same mission at the 11o'clock view. My system specs are Intel i7 920 (@4GHz) Hyperthreading turned off. Win 7 Pro 64 bit 12GB PC3-12800 (1600MHz) Memory Nvidia Gforce 9800 (Stock speed) Track IR 5 However by turning off mirrors it goes to 21 (mirrors not in view at 11o'clock) Then by turning down Water to 1 it goes to 35 Then by turning off Shadows I get 43 I also turn off heat blur, reduce SHVAL resolution to 512 and i go to 48fps. a few further tweaks and I very rarly dip below 60fps. Cheers Tom

Ok here is my method Select NAV view (Btn5) Press MAP (Btn2) Press SCALE+ or SCALE- to set scale to 1cm:1km Press ERBL Press MARKER Twist right hand knob until cross is just touching Left or right of screen Note measurement (7.81 km) double it 15.62km , at 1:1 this gives a horizontal measurement of the map as 15.62cm Return cross to center (distance = 0) Press in knob and move to top or bottom of the screen Read distance and double it. (6.15km x2 - 12.3km or 12.3 cm) Therefore displayed map is 15.62cm by 12.30 cm Tom

The problem with assuming that the screen size quoted is the visible screen size is that often the visible portion of the screen is smaller due to an overlapping bezel. This is often needed to stop backlight bleeding round the edge of the LCD. I think the best way is to measure the actual map using the built in marker/measure tool. (see previous post) Tom
-
Well a quick test, set the scale to 1:1 (1 cm = 1km) then use the marker/measure tool to measure the distance to the left edge = 7.8km. Then use the same tool to measure the distance to the top edge = 6.15km By my quick test the ABRIS map screen is 156mm wide by 123mm tall Anyone care to check. Tom

Vehicle recognition and Encyclopedia
Frogfoot1606687865 replied to Frogfoot1606687865's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
Topdog, very interesting but this begs the question why on earth was the model viewer not integrated into the GUI in the first place. It seems like all the hard work has been done already. I can see no reason why that rotating view couldn't replace the static image. I may have to pick up a copy of the Janes book anyway, it looks like a good read. -
Hi, I'm trying to brush up on my vehicle/threat recognition skills and am finding the Encyclopedia very limited, is there any word of this component being updated in the future. For instance you can't even filter the vehicles by country/affiliation. Hell there is not event any mention of which country uses most of them. I have to go and look them up on wikipedia to find out which country uses them. Secondly there is only a static view, not very usefull when you want to know what the head on or rear view of a particular vehicle looks like. Are there any alternatives that you guys know about? good web sites etc. Cheers Tom

Strange bug in multiplayer
Frogfoot1606687865 replied to Frogfoot1606687865's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
Ahh that makes sense, as the server was running the servman mod -
Hi, I was flying a multiplayer mission today and noticed that whenever I destroyed a target it would pop up the message that 'XXX had destroyed a YYY' all well and good, except that the XXX was not my callsign! It was another flight menber. This happened for the duration of the flight untill I was shot down and reaspawed, then things went back to normal. Pings were good (<150) with little or no warping. Has anyone else noticed anything like this? Tom

playing mission with friend?
Frogfoot1606687865 replied to ScEBlack1's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
The person hosting the game will also need to ensure that the correct ports are open/forwarded in the router configuration. The default ports are 10308 UDP and TCP Tom -
Problems connecting to multiplayer server
Frogfoot1606687865 replied to Frogfoot1606687865's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
Yup, notepad++ used, the file modded for ABRIS was \Scripts\Aircrafts\Ka-50\Cockpit\ABRIS\Options.lua. Problem solved now as I did a fresh install and copied my old options.lua and Graphics.cfg across. It would be really usefull if the error log file would note the failed file. -
Problems connecting to multiplayer server
Frogfoot1606687865 replied to Frogfoot1606687865's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
I have made some changes, I followed the Tweak guide to improve FPS, (editing options.lua and graphics.lua) and I have changed the ABRIS default format from deg.mm.ss to degrees and decimal minutes. Tom -
Hi, I have been playing a lot of MP Blackshark lately. All has been going well untill today when I try to connect to the =STP= server I get the message 'Connection interupted' as soon as I select the server. I have used this server many times over the last few weeks with no problems. Does anyone know what could cause this. Most other servers are ok. The only other problem I have is that I cant connect to 'Tenth Mixed Squad' servers (TMS) I always get booted with 'Integrity check failed' I have several mods installed, (no cheats/weapons etc). I tried uninstalling all my mods using Modman but that hasn't helped. Is there any way to find out which file is failing the check? Cheers Tom

Cursor keys act as autodestruct buttons...
Frogfoot1606687865 replied to Frogfoot1606687865's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
Yes I am VERY sure, I have checked the settings in both 'real' and 'game' sections of the key assignment page. In fact if I assign the cursor keys to something else (Wingman radio comms) the problem goes away, however if I clear the assignments then the problem returns. Well at least I have found a work around. It would be interesting to see if anyone can reproduce the problem. Thanks anyway. Tom -
Cursor keys act as autodestruct buttons...
Frogfoot1606687865 replied to Frogfoot1606687865's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
can anyone confirm that the cursor keys affect the cyclic, or am I the only one? Tom -
After having one or two very strange loss of control incidents recently I have found the cause. When I accidently hit one of the cursor keys the cyclic stick goes to full deflection in that direction and stays there, not good. The keyboard assignments for cyclic are all blank in the options screen for both real mode and arcade (I cleared them myself as they were assigned to the cursor keys) and the axis assignments are set up correctly for my X52Pro. Does anyone know why hitting one of these keys should have such a strange effect? Does it happen on anyone elses setup. I tried uninstalling/reinstalling but the problem still persists. Its like having four auto destruct buttons on the keyboard. Help me Please... Tom

Programming PVI in Mission Editor
Frogfoot1606687865 replied to Garfieldo's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
Any FARPS added to the map and set as 'visable on map' will appear on the ABRIS. it is easy to find the nearest one to your location. use the search function, all airfields and FARPS are sorted by distance from your present position, select your divert FARP and press the TO button. I believe target points should be left for targets not FARPs, FLOTs etc, IMHO FLOTs should be added to the ABRIS as a RED line, that way it is clear if the vehicle you are targeting is on your side of the line of the enemys.
