Haswell released today
159th_Falcon replied to porky_pig's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Very impressed, the temp of the cpu though. Is that of the core that's doing the hard work or an overall temp? I'd be very happy to get 80+ FPS whit those kind of settings. Keep the results coming, wonder how far you can push it before fps start to get low. -

Fair expectation. I'm running an even slower CPU though. So i guess that's good news. Kind off...... -

Thanks for the explanation guys. Guess 16GB will be more then plenty for me then. Hardly ever do video editing, and when i do it are fairly short and small gopro clips. And that's a very impressive jump in fps, could you please post setting a bit more detailed? Any trees, grass, MSAA, heat blur, draw distance and quality setting? And what CPU did your previous system have? Hoping this will give me an idea of the performance gain i could get. (running an Phenom II here stock at 3.4Ghz and an 6950 2GB GPU) EDIT, Would it be useful to load DCS into a RAMdrive? besides loading time obviously -

Nice system, pretty much what i am considering, but why so much memory? Won't say you will never use 32 GB, but it does seem a bit overkill? (or do you plan on installing DCS in the RAM or something?) Let us know how it handle's DCS if you will please. ~S~ and thank's for posting the specs. -

Wouldn't it be easyer to apply it directly to the CPU? Anyway, what are your System Specs HiJack? -

Even then your still getting 75C orso overclocked on air. Which is way to hot still. (using porky_pig's data as reference here) -

Ah, thank's for the info Gentlemen. Was aware that hasswell is new generation though, but all reviews indicated only a 5% average performance increase on the CPU side of things. But if i understand Porky-pig right he has had an performance increase of about 40 percent over Sandy bridge. (different model cpu's though) So yeah, that's good to hear. Guess i'm going to gather some more information on how hot the Haswell seems to be running on air. Early reports seem to indicate there running a bit on the hot side once you start overclocking. HiJack, would you mind posting your rig specs whit a short summary as to why you chose the setup? (bet money had something to do whit it:D) -

Lol, i know gentleman. I have actually been suggesting people to lock there fps at 30. What i am curious about though is what that rig is capable off if you don't cap the fps. Cause i am looking to buy an new PC but i find it quite hard to find out if i should get; I5 I7 Hasswel (igpu which will be useless for my pc) Sandy bridge (or whatever the name is of the 3770(k)) Always been AMD fanboy so not to familiar whit the Intel side of things. -

And you have to cap your FPS at 30 whit that rig? :shocking: Better be running some insane graphic settings. Otherwise i may just as well stick whit my Phenom II.:joystick: -
At least you didn't call my colleagues and me Grease Monkeys.........

Very true Raptor. And that's why in helicopter operations you usually see a close co-operation between the two. About froogle, didn't see his initial video that started all the fuss. But this one is at least as arrogant and pedantic as he pertains us to be. And that's my own honest opinion. ~S~

One of you has HDR enabled and the other disabled??????

Really, calling about strict....... What kind of place you work then? Can't imagine it being civillian. Where i work i am allowed to take pictures, but i should ask permission before making them public. (some bright fella posted pictures of a lightning strike on face book.......) Talking about work, i'm due to head over there in a couple minute's, cant wait. :D
-
:megalol::megalol::megalol::megalol: That's a good one indeed. ***EDIT*** You did just run to work, lock-wired it like that and took a picture for a good laugh right? It's not like someone seriously wire-locked it that way?
-
Note, Castle nuts on undrilled studs. Meaning you can't use a cotter pin. Also image clearly shows a hole drilled trough the flanks of the castle. Not the wire going inbetween the castles, trough a hole in the stud and back out the other way as in the pictures. But really, no need to prove yourself right. If that's the way you and your colleagues do it that's fine. Just found it funny i was thought and explicitly told not to do it, for reasons that are unclear to me. As i said, no intend to offend you.

Yes i know, Hasswell is mobile market orientated. But how hard can it be to strip out the igpu and do something useful whit the space you have left? I mean really, if you're going to use an 4770k, changes are your going to use an external gpu as well. Having an iGPU is great for notebooks and do i know what not, but it's useless for desktops that play anything heavier then full HD movies. I don't see an iGPU on a gaming rig whit two or more monitors for example. Or any gaming rig for that matter. In the end it comes down to the fact i don't like paying for what i don't use. Like iGPU's still everyone is trying to let me believe its a great thing. Well, not for me, along whit millions of other gamers. -
Well, it's not THAT great over here either. Spring was like winter, but the WITH snow. And we only had one week yet whit temps at or above 20 Deg C. (which would have been the normal for time of year.) Seems to be becoming summer slowly though. Currently is about 19C and predictions are it will be getting better. Only logical reason i could think of in the cotter pins vs lock wire case. Cotter pins you need many different size's where as locking wire can be tensioned against the castle nuts castle's regardless of size. Making an wartime supply chain simpler.......... Then again, why not use it everywhere. Maybe one side of the locking holes is obstructed making the use of cotter pins (almost) impossible? :megalol: and there goes my coffee........ Lol, no disrespect mate, but didn't they tell you after your internship that was a joke? Never seen lockwire being used on castlenuts, only cotter pins. Regardless on whether or not it was a moving part or not. Lockwire is for bolt heads etc etc Cotter pins is for castle nuts. At least that's the only way i have seen them being used. In the end i don't really think it matters anyway though, both methods will prevent the parts coming lose.

Would post some shots myself, but for some reason photobucket doesn't allow me to upload *.png files?

Not quite sure yet. Why buy an CPU whit integrated gpu if your gonna use an external gpu anyways? Seems like wasted transistors to me which could have been used to make the cpu faster, for less and consume less energy as well. -
Awesome, and quite interesting setup. How is the Pitch, Roll ofset achieved? entirely on the swashplate and rotor system or is there some kind of mixing unit preceding the hydraulic servo's as well? Also interesting to see that on the castle nuts of the collective lever arm support cotter pins are used to secure them. Where as on the lower pitch link bearing lockwire is used to lock the castle nuts. Any specific reason for this? BTW, you don't happen to do this kind of work somewhere close to The Netherlands? Would be nice to be able to see an Mi-8 up close whit all maintenance doors opened up. Once again, thank's for the info and the picture. No pressure on the 3D modellers to get things right.............:D
-
Thank you very much. Interesting approach on the swashplate construction though. And lots of grease nipples to.... It seems to have the collective input separate from the pitch an roll input? Or are there some input rods removed that would connect to the stationary swashplate? Cause if i see it right, the lever on the lower right of the picture controls collective, raising and lowering the entire swashplate assembly To the left there seems to be an input rod connected to the inner (stationary) swashplate that would tilt the swashplate resulting in either an pitch or roll action? Thank's for the picture, wish i could get my hands on one (mi-8 that is) and see how the Russians construct things. (KA-50 or MI-26 would do to though:D)

Apparently real SU-25 does not have toe brakes......... Hence the FC3 one does not either. (same for the T version)
