  1. Servers with floppy drives, how nostalgic.
  2. When you create a folder under C:\, it will have a different access control list than the (default) one of C:\Program Files. Specifically, you will have write access to folders created directly under C:\, even with a non-administrator account. The only times when administrator privileges are required with DCS World is during installation/update/repair. In these cases the installer/updater will prompt for elevation of privileges, so this isn't an issue. Just click Yes (or enter administrator credentials when running as a basic user). If you want to modify the files in the DCS World installation folder (e.g. for tweaking/modding), you can modify the access control list to give yourself write access, which would be the same as installing it under C:\Games. Thus, running DCS World as administrator isn't required.
  3. With Windows Vista, User Account Control was introduced which (by default) requires explicit elevation of your privileges to use your administrator "rights" on any kind of resource (file, registry ...) which requires administrative privileges. Without elevation, you are limited to basic user privileges, which only allow read access to the Program Files directory (in case of the default DACL), even if your user account is a member of the local Administrators security group. This is a security feature. In Windows XP (and older) your administrator privileges are always active and hence you have write access to the Program Files directory. This also means that everything which runs in your Windows session has administrator privileges ... ...
  4. It's tough being a forum moderator and a participant.
  5. The error message is different but the underlying problem is the same. When you install the OpenBeta installer, all it does is install the autoupdater. The autoupdater copies files from an existing "release" version of DCS already installed on your computer which are the same as the openbeta version, the new files are downloaded from the update servers. There has been a problem with one of the update servers lately, causing problems with installation/repair/update for the openbeta. If you retry the openbeta installation several times it will succeed because the autoupdater randomly chooses one of several update servers.
  6. Try again several times. It should work eventually. --> http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=118513
  7. Well, for the openbeta, the autoupdater does reuse most files from the existing 1.2.6 installation (local copy instead of download). As for the download speeds, they seem to vary greatly, from time to time.
  8. Check this thread: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=118513 Try the manual command a couple of times and it should work eventually. "C:\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World OpenBeta\bin\DCS_updater.exe" install MI-8MTV2
  9. Since the crashes are occurring in various exe/dll, I suspect a corrupt disk (most likely) or RAM. To check the harddisk: run chkdsk on c: To check the RAM: WindowsKey+R, type mdsched and press OK
  10. WinDbg says: "Probably caused by : hardware" Check Windows Event Viewer -> Custom Views -> Administrative Events Any disk related errors? What kind of hardware did you add in November?
  11. LockOn Gold includes Flaming Cliffs (1), which did use StarForce.
  12. A number of ground, sea and air objects have been replaced by much more detailed models with high resolution textures. Cockpit self-shadowing was added, detailed 6DOF cockpits were added for some of the FC aircraft, tree shadows were added, the water rendering was improved (especially on the "high" setting) ... Lowering the graphics settings seems the only solution, if upgrading the hardware is not an option. The Nvidia 9600GT was released over five years ago and was considered a "budget" card at the time of release. PS: what graphics settings are you using?
  13. The update UI now includes a link to the change log. This should please PeterP ;) pJb0ztQJQf8
  14. It appears the UH-1H license is not linked to the account which you use to log on to the module manager. You can manually install the UH-1H module by following these steps: Press WindowsKey+R and copy/paste this text, and click OK. "C:\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World OpenBeta\bin\DCS_updater.exe" install UH-1H (you may need to adjust the file path depending on where 1.2.7 openbeta is installed)
  15. High energy laser demonstration against mortars and UAVs. Z71TOPLy1dU
  16. There is a dedicated subforum for (new) issues with the UH-1H module in 1.2.7 OpenBeta: http://forums.eagle.ru/forumdisplay.php?f=318 A separate thread should be created for each issue.
  17. Copying input config files from 1.2.6 can cause some issues. For example, the new options for the UH1-H will be missing if you copy the config file from 1.2.6.
  18. Strange, my download went up to 13 megabytes/second. PS: 50 megabytes/second would require an internet connection of at least 400 megabit/sec ...
  19. In 1.2.7 OB, I can only move the guns (of the door gunners in UH-1H) when "TrackIR aiming" is enabled in the special options, regardless of using TIR or not. Without this option enabled I can only move the view, not the gun.
  20. DCS 1.2.7 only appears to require the Visual C++ 2012 runtime, hence why it's included with the installer. You can verify this using utilities such as DependencyWalker. There's no point in installing other versions, not for DCS.
  21. Even if you're not using TrackIR, try enabling the "TrackIR aiming" option (UH-1H special options menu)
  22. Make sure flares have been equipped in the payload settings of the mission editor. - Arm the flare system using the switch. The ARM light will turn green. - Press the button labeled FLARE DISPENSE to dispense one set of two flares. To track the number of remaining flares, use the rotary to set the number of equipped flares. The maximum value is 30 (pairs). Each time you press the dispense flare button, the counter will decrease. Using the DISP CONT switch appears to expend all remaining flares at once.
  23. Did you copy your input settings from 1.2.6 to 1.2.7 openbeta? The new settings for the UH-1H in 1.2.7 require that you start with a clean input config. Deleting the settings folder should resolve this issue: C:\Users\ < your user name> \Saved Games\DCS.openbeta\Config\Input\UH-1H
