  1. Actually Doom3 doesn't have a huge polygon count, it's more focused towards fancy (lighting) effects.
  2. In the meanwhile: we can dream
  3. Logical, considering the overhead. That's why forests in LockOn (and games like OFP) do not consist of individual trees, but blocks of trees which make up a single geometry set. You just have to create a few variations of blocks and you're set :) The framerate doesn't drop much near cities because of the geometry, but rather the large number of objects.
  4. And you want to create 100 different skins for each aircraft number? ;) The aircraft number feature works the same way the (national) insignia works. The fact that there's a visual "flaw" in certain conditions should not be a reason to discard this feature. How many countries in LockOn have F-16? Plenty ;) Besides, iirc, there are high-res Soviet insignia available, which replace the old low-res (yes, ugly) insignia.
  5. The city graphics are ... next gen.
  6. "Simulation"? Naval operations have a relatively low priority in Lockon, thus there is no fancy "Silent Hunter III" ship damage model ;)
  7. Only seems to happen when the wingman is present.
  8. Someone didn't look at the screenshots, nor did he read my text correctly (vanilla). ;)
  9. I think we've learned a valuable lesson: we haven't nagged enough yet.
  10. 65K is acceptable, but does it have LOD's? Else, the models are not of much use, unless you can use the existing models as LOD's (through .skins files or something?). Remember that the weapon models (e.g. R-27) and variable geometry (gear, flaps) also use additional geometry.
  11. That SU-25 (vanilla) model looks sick. Apparently it's quite far in development. One might think it will make it in LOBS.
  12. His real name is Admiral Kuznetsov.
  13. It looks sick. :D We definitely need a new model for Lockon ;)
  14. All the information you need is inside the existing cockpits ("kabina" files). You can check all arguments in the model viewer and see what they do. Then you can make a new model which implements these arguments.
  15. If every piece of software today had to be created (completely) using assembler code, then there would not be a LockOn today ;) Developing in C++ is a lot faster than developing in assembler code. This is definitely a good thing IMHO ;) Assembler code isn't even the lowest level, you know :D
  16. Are you sure you're compiling the same, most basic, C++ source, with optimizations for footprint? VB and similar languages are not made for runtime performance or small footprints. They're designed for rapid application development. Besides, comparing VB6 to VB.NET is just completely wrong. You might as well compare cars from the 80's to a cars from the 2000's. "oh no, these cars keep getting more expensive, but they seem the same" They're not exactly the same, not at all ;) If you can't accept that you have to upgrade relatively quickly, when you want to play PC games at high settings, then you should consider switching to consoles.
  17. Your mipmaps are going to be larger respectively, otherwise the change between the mipmaps could be too big (visually). ;) Besides, you have to change the mipmaps of the trees, which afaik are big blocks of geometry, not invididual trees. This may cause some graphical oddities if the mipmap LOD distance isn't far enough.
  18. The thing is that there are a high number of trees, which means you have to take that low res and multiply by a few hundred, if not thousand. Not exactly friendly for the fill-rate. The resolution is only an issue when flying low, which is what we're ... probably ... going to be doing in LOBS.
  19. I'm sorry but this is not a high end system at all. The best part is probably the amount of RAM. Your video card is pretty much ancient history (late 2003?) ;) You have absolutely no idea what you are talking about.
  20. If I'm not mistaken, you need to turn on "advanced haze" and "all lights" to see the ground lighting. Try this, it's worth a shot. It's possible that Track files include these settings, which is why you see it when watching the Track. If I'm not mistaken this is similar to the way settings are "pushed" in multiplayer. (could be wrong)
  21. Could it be the Inguri dam? It's in a part of Georgia which is just outside the current map in Lockon ...
  22. Registration is not required to download files from LockonSkins. What would be the point in that? Seeing our member-count go up by one and wasting 5 minutes of your live (surely we can't remember our logins for all those sites ;) ) ??
  23. After 1'00" ... looks like a dam ... So it's true after all, we're getting Las Vegas terrain ;D
  24. How many developers worked on MSFS, you reckon? I think you're confusing MSFS' resources with Windows'/Office's resources. I think you should look at some satellite pictures ;) Not really. Btw, if I'm not mistaken, Lockon can't actually have water above sea-level. This can be seen at some locations with "lakes". The water is not at the same level as the land surrounding it. Somewhat comparable with OFP. You've got to be kidding. The clouds are the best looking feature in MSFS (since MSFS2004, where it was one of the main changes lol) F4 has simple tiles. Lockon and MSFS have fancy tiles.
  25. Don't underestimate the leeching capabilities of the Lockon community ;) Maybe you hyped it too much :D
