  1. That could be because rivers etc are lower than the surroundings, so the fog layer is slightly thicker there. Playing with the thickness of the fog layer can give you very nice results, especially in mountainous areas.
  2. I was there too, seems we chose the wrong day, as Friday and Sunday had better weather. Well, better luck next year (main theme: 100 years RAF)
  3. The Su-27 is huge indeed, maybe it has to do with its role as air superiority fighter. Larger airframe means more space for fuel, thus greater range. Here's a picture for scale:
  4. I often visited Gilze-Rijen airbase in the Netherlands, when they were still flying jets. First the NF-5A/B, later the F-16. That's a public road on the left, and the runway on the right. There are traffic lights there which turn red when an aicraft comes in for landing. The closest I have been to a flying aircraft was when I was lying down in the grass on the left of the picture, and an F-16 came in quite low. I estimate it passed about 2-3 meters above me. Below is a picture showing just how dangerous my 'stunt' was. It is the exact same spot as in the first picture, from the other side. The NF-5 in that picture actually touched down on the road and 'jumped' over the fence... I have also been blown away twice by a C-141 Starlifter taking off there, which was great fun. During my many visits to military airbases and airshows, I've sat in: - F-4F (German Airforce, operational aircraft at Rheine-Hopsten, Germany) - CH-53G (German Army, operational aircraft at Rheine-Bentlage, Germany) - Bo-105P (German Army, operational aircraft at Rheine-Bentlage, Germany) - F-16CJ (US Air Force, static show at Le Bourget, France) - F-15E (US Air Force, static show at Le Bourget, France) - B-17 'Pink Lady' (static show at Le Bourget, France) - AJS-37 Viggen (ex-Swedish Air Force, now in the AvioDrome museum in the Netherlands) - MiG-21PFM (ex-East-German Airforce, now in the AvioDrome museum in the Netherlands) - Mi-2 (Hungarian Airforce, operational aircraft at Szolnok, Hungary) - Mi-8 (Hungarian Airforce, operational aircraft at Szolnok, Hungary) - MiG-21bis (Hungarian Airforce, operational aircraft at Pápa, Hungary) - MiG-29 (Hungarian Airforce, operational aircraft at Kecskemét, Hungary) - C-130 (Turkish Stars, static show at Kecskemét, Hungary) - CH-47D (Royal Netherlands Airforce, static show at Kecskemét, Hungary) Oh, and I once cut my arm on the wing of an F-104 at an airshow (can't remember where) I have also walked around an A-10A at Twente Airbase in the Netherlands and an Su-30MKI at Le Bourget, France, to take some close-up pictures.
  5. I found this, not sure if it's completely accurate for DCS, but this is how the lights on the UPAZ pods work in real life.
  6. It is simulating sun blinding, but a bit too much at times. It is realistic when you look straight into the sun, but when the sun is behind a cloud or the horizon, the blinding shouldn't occur. Currently, you get blinded by the sun even after sunset.
  7. On November 5th and 6th, 2016, the AvioDrome museum at Lelystad Airport in the Netherlands will be the decor for the world's largest International Flight Simulator event. Over 400 participants offer tons of FS information about all types of flight sims to the public. Visitors are also invited to take a seat in one of the many flightsim cockpits and fly for themselves. The Dutch Flanker Display Team will once again be present as part of the HCC Flightsimulator booth. Amongst other things, we will be giving hands-on flying lessons to visitors using the L-39C and its multicrew capability in DCS World. An impression of last year's edition can be found in this topic: https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=152373 For more information about the event, visit http://www.fsweekend.com The address of the museum is: Luchtvaart-Themapark Aviodrome Pelikaanweg 50 8218 PG Lelystad Airport The Netherlands We hope to see you there.

  8. I've seen F-5s (both NF-5A and Swiss F-5E) where fuel comes out of this vent when flying inverted / under negative Gs. It would be cool if this were modelled in DCS.
  9. I have finally had time to update the script. It will now only show the text in the top-right corner of the screen. Also, it can cope with larger numbers of gates (tested with 29 gates). Please see the opening post to download the updated script and test mission. Enjoy!
  10. I was there on Saturday, and thought the afterburner looked funny right after takeoff. Fortunately nothing serious happened, because he was coming towards the crowd line when the AB quit. Gave us quite a scare...
  11. It suffered a bit of a fuel leak in the AB...
  12. They also seem to be confirmed for the Sanicole Airshow (Belgium 9 and 11 September) and Airpower 16 at Zeltweg (Austria, 3-4 September)
  13. Don't know if this is related to the Gazelle module or DCS itself. It only happened with the Gazelle though. When flying for a while (mission had been running for about 2.5 hours), the Gazelle started breaking up and showing weird black flashing lines when using the F3 flyby view. This didn't happen with any other camera, nor did it happen to the Mi-8 which was flying close behind the Gazelle. In the screenshot below you can see most of the tail is missing, and there are black and coloured diagonal lines all around the Gazelle.
  14. Mooi initiatief!
  15. I've had a similar issue with a mission I created using 1.5.2. The mission has four aircraft client slots (all blue), a JTAC (also blue) and some red AI aircraft and ground units. Tested it there in single player without any problems. Yesterday I tested it in 1.5.3 in multiplayer, and weird things started to happen. First, all aircraft on the red side disappeared. When run a second time, the red ground units were also gone. All units still show in the ME, but when running the mission, only the blue coalition is present. I will try to upload the mission later as I'm not on my gaming PC right now.
  16. Shouldn't it also be possible to refuel an M-2000C behind an IL-78?
  17. Same problem here, albeit a bit more extreme. With two MiG-21s sitting on the tarmac at Nellis, I went from 40 FPS to roughly 40 SPF (Seconds Per Frame). When the other MiG-21 despawned (player chose another aircraft) the frame rate slowly went up again, and after a minute or two was back to 40 FPS.
  18. You mean take off from VIE, switch on the autopilot, have a coffee break, and land at FRA? ;)
  19. Last Saturday we presented DCS World to the HCC Flightsimulator club in Almere, the Netherlands. The first part was an introduction to DCS and its features. The second part was a formation flight around Las Vegas. We had two cockpits on-site, while two other members of our team joined up from home to complete our 4-ship mixed formation for the afternoon flight. People were amazed by the level of detail in the terrain and the graphics quality. Several people stated that they wanted to try DCS and asked all kinds of questions about system requirements, how it compares to FSX, what to expect in the future, etc. All in all, it was great fun to do, and nice to receive such positive response, even from people who don't like militairy flightsims in the first place.
  20. Some free image editing tools are GIMP (https://www.gimp.org/) and Paint.NET (http://www.getpaint.net/). To disable the status bar press LCTRL+Y twice.
  21. I use the modified default.lua method as well. The only drawback is that you have to redo all your changes each time there is a game update.
  22. Evening approach at McCarran in the L-39C
  23. Haha, during the FS Weekend it was mostly the other way round :) Almost everyone asked us which addon for FSX we were using. When we told them we weren't using FSX but the free to play flightsim DCS World, people were surprised about the quality of a 'free' flightsim.
  24. The list is rather short at the moment. There were three flightsim events (FS Weekend, MilSim and LLTM), but now only the FS Weekend is left. The FS Weekend is always on the first full weekend of November. So next year it will most probably be on 5-6 November.
  25. Don't know if it's new but never noticed before: Smoke trails drift with the wind.
