  1. Erforce, I think the Ocean requirement is made on the assumption that, with DCS:F/A-18C, we will get improved carrier/naval ops, thus making an appropriate amount of water required to fully use the potential those advances should bring, if our guesses are right. Obviously the F/A-18 can easily operate from land and still remain a very capable fighter/strike aircraft, but it's always nice to have the full pack. Personally, I believe the Mediterranean area is perfect as you can model pretty much anything from Spain and France to Cyprus, Lybia or Israel. And it's a fair body of water to send your carriers to. ...and we can do strike missions lasting hours with loads of in-flight refueling. :music_whistling: Yes, I intend to replicate that legendary Tornado strike in Libya to the best extent I can. :D
  2. The Mi-8 name is pretty misleading, we're getting something even better. The MTV-2 variant is essentially a Mi-17, hot and high variant with improved armour, engines and anti-torque rotor. Mi-8 doesn't say enough about this beauty :D
  3. JAR, we're not talking about trying to introduce kids for flight simulation. What I meant is, we can find people who ALREADY have a passion for flying and simming but lack the means to do so. People who already know they like it and love it but are 'grounded' for 'lack of spare parts' shall we say, be the reason 'budget cuts' or just plain bad administration of resources by their parents/guardians. Those people know how to fly, they just need... an aircraft, basically. Or a virtual one.
  4. Yellonet, what about the Balkans, or Greece/Cyprus, or even mixing Southern Europe with Northern Africa? The Mediterranean isn't very big but it has a history of carriers venturing in it since World War II, and in all recent NATO/UN operations in the theatre. And it's also a blast for long range missions since you can fly out of wherever you want to hit targets near and far into enemy territory. Air-to-air refueling would be mandatory in this case, and you'd have to really fly wisely. I do agree that to have two opposing carrier groups the Med is tiny as hell though. Perhaps Western portions of the Mediterranean with the Atlantic Ocean included would be more interesting? It'd be one f***ing huge map for sure. Most powerful nations have some interest or assets in North Africa, it's somewhat easy to drag them into a fireball. Ideally, I'd vote for anything that's in this map, plus Northern Europe. Indian Ocean is attractive too, Navy-wise:
  5. DCS will pioneer the CATOBCL - Catapult Assisted Take-Off But Crash-Landing :D
  6. Some (very) oldies from 2010, back in the Flaming Cliffs 1.12c days which I found on my Attachments here. Very good time for mods, we even had a NEVADA map back in the day :D 1. Gripen JAS-39C pulling some G during Red Flag, Nevada 2. Luftwaffe F-4F returning after CAP 3. Su-27 flight over Moscow, Victory Day practice 3.1. A beautiful edit of that photo by a fellow Lock On pilot from these boards (unfortunately I can't remember or locate who did it - if you're reading this, come forth, you did a great job :D): 4. French Rafale-M training in the Alps. 5. Su-27SK during a promotional video/photoshoot 6. E-3A climbing in the early hours of morning. Long day ahead. Now a couple of shots from my very first Ka-50 campaign flight, also from 2010. My computer's pretty mid-low range but it still held up quite well :) Graphics were dazzling back then, and frankly still are :D All with special thanks to Viper for helping me out with getting my Russian version to English and uploading the whole Deployment campaign in English for me  If you think you're safe going out at night... think again. Sharks can be pretty mean nocturnal beings too. One can't congratulate ED enough on their work on shaders:pilotfly: Hope you enjoyed the nostalgia :D
  7. I think (nearly) all agree that anything in Europe would be a blast :D Then some African or South-West/Central Asian country (possibly extending the current map as well), Middle East maybe? Eastern Asia's fun if you get a country that's capable. N Korea can surely be troublesome but the only thing we have from their arsenal is the MiG-29A/G. You could have a good conflict if you bring Singapore, Malasya, Australia and whatnot, they pack a real punch and have pretty capable aircraft. But again I think they'd want to reuse the nations we have so far... Europe, Mediterranean countries? :D I just wonder if they'll be training missions for Nevada, as in A2A without live weapons, for Red Flag-type of activities.
  8. Flying over Moscow should be fun... the airspace is closed even in peace times, getting anywhere near it in a war should be SAMs galore :D
  9. The features are being implemented for a future patch, including sling loading, troop cargo and SAR/CSAR :) Currently they're simulating this by using triggers. Can't wait to see how it'll be when everything is implemented.
  10. http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/products/huey/ :)
  11. An upside down shot the PR from Patrouille de France sent me to help me do a skin for an early AlphaJet mod someone did for Flaming Cliffs 1.12 :D These are my favourite from a Luftwaffe CD they gave, nice wallpaper material :) And my old Lock On version of that Phantom shot :D
  12. A Huey with Mk.82s and 84s? Now THAT should be fun to fly with the added weight. And a way to introduce HGIP - Hopefully Guessed Impact Point :D
  13. Agreed EtherealN, for the people who aren't attached to squadrons, it's actually pretty handy.
  14. You can save a .trk file and attach it here, then there's nothing on YouTube and, more important, they can analyse it within the engine rather than just a video :)
  15. Reminds me of this: Although here it's clear that the pilot knew something was wrong, since the wingman was flying chase and their tailhook is down.
  16. They're all hypothetical examples to try to get across that the Su-27 and F-15C World modules will not affect or delay the upcoming DCS:F/A-18C module, no actual assumptions made :) Just fairly annoying to see such a strong reaction about a realism improvement just because it is not what one share of the costumer base wants (even though it reflects the majority of the market - including new players), especially considering that the main reason there's been such an outrage is because people get the idea that anything that's released before DCS:Fighter is putting said module off, while that's not really true considering it has been discussed over an over by people from ED that right now the biggest setback of this kind of aircraft is the accurate implementation of radar and other systems within the engine and also within the confidentiality restrictions which come with nearly any modern active military equipment. AFM implementation won't do any harm to pretty much anyone. PS: My apologies to said coder A for the misunderstanding though, keep up the good work Mr. A :D
  17. ...and since coder A has nearly finished the Su-27 and F-15C AFM, they can announce that while coder A works with the F/A-18C's AFM (which has probably been in the works for a while). Or perhaps coder A finished the F/A-18 and that's why he's working on the Su-27/F-15C. Either way, we won't be getting it until the systems and avionics are laid out anyway. Why keep the whole developing team on hold if you can use it wisely and attend the wishes of everyone - we'll be getting our fighter alright, while the lower fidelity (not low, just LOWER than DCS) aircraft get a few miles closer to their DCS modules :)
  18. I disagree - DCS: Cookie could be the goldmine ED's looking for, we don't have German aircraft with AFM, and Cookie is combat-proven (270+ posts) :D
  19. Sticky thread with 14 pages of map discussion: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=99134 :)
  20. Something I noticed, no one (no one at all) mentioned any portion of South America as a potential conflict zone. Although it's a mostly stable region, it has enough potential for troublesome scenarios. It's full of borders, there is a wide variety of terrain (from thick jungle to valleys and flat deserts), and it doesn't take much creativity to spark a conflict there - especially considering that Venezuela Additionally, the majority of local air forces, armies and navies count with fairly modern inventories and share equipment in common with NATO and Russia. Older factions can easily join in - US/NATO through the north and through its allies to intervene/invade, Russia through Venezuela and other allies, France has territory there with some deployments, France and NATO can use it. Territory is fairly massive (in other words, f***ing HUGE), we can use literally every single country we have there (perhaps not Georgia, although they did deploy troops in Afghanistan and so did Ukraine, so they're in again :D), all (literally) sorts of missions are possible, including COIN, intercept or long range strikes, there are two oceans and very wide rivers where ships can easily travel through. Anyone up for it? Of the aircraft that are not modelled currently (not to mention the ones which'd need upgrades), a lot are in the works by third parties and/or match the Vietnam-era people crave for. Not to mention that most countries fly the UH-1H :D
  21. Western Europe with the UK included would be fantastic! Cross-Channel missions and low level fun on the Mach loop when the Hawk is out :D And it would allow the good old scramble to intercept that one bloody Russian aircraft that strayed into British airspace :music_whistling: Or the Baltic region (with Nordic countries)? Quite some room for both air, sea and ground operations of all kinds, and Kaliningrad squeezing up the Baltic states makes it all even more interesting :)
  22. I don't have it myself, but I think in CA that can be done (saw someone mentioning it)?
  23. BeachAV8R is doing that - setting the example
  24. We should have DCS:Cookie, with AFM and damage model that simulates each bit as it gets hit by teeth or SAM. :smartass:
  25. SiThSpAwN, now THAT is something that'd delay F/A-18C :D plus, I'm not too confident in their baking skills - they can sure CODE/model in 3D a cookie but making one edible? :music_whistling:
