Superb! Can't wait to use it!

Indeed, but if someone is extremely interested they could dedicate their own time to it. Some people might find it worth it, and if they do who are we to stop them :D I think occasion-specific elements CAN be good, if the occasion and its resulting missions and etc are interesting. WInter sports facilities may be useful later on for other winter maps/cities which have them (not anything even CLOSE to essential but if someone really wants it), but that's only if they're made generic rather than Sochi-specific. But to the OP: AFAIK there is already a campaign on the user files section (or was it for FC2? Worth checking anyway) which is centered around the olympics, and they didn't need any of that. Think of it like this: it'll be the middle of winter. Odds are the weather will be downright wank. Plus, for most scenarios, if your flight finds itself directly on top of the facilities or within visual range of them in such weather, you either didn't do a good job fighting off attackers OR, if you're attacking the city itself (not going into human rights violations and what constitutes terrorism) you're AAA and SAM bait. If really needed, there should be at least one stadium in Sochi already which you can use. :)

I caught myself thinking about that after posting. But since the old map will be flyable within EDGE while not using its features, it would be doable that the map tools are somehow compatible, no? IIRC there were other maps done back in the FC/FC2 days (including Nevada, Afghanistan and Vladivostok, the two latter never being released). If someone with the knowledge used the same methods involved in creating these maps worked on the Black Sea one, it could be doable (as long as the map's files are accessible). But I think it wouldn't be too wise to mod the whole map for that - we'd be limited to an xtremely short time frame. Would creating static 3D objects placeable via ME do the trick? PS: and what Isegrim said, these Olympics haven't started and already are nothing but shameful in every possible way. Stopping it at this since politics are a no-go here.

When the SDK is released maybe? :)

I didn't subscribe to the KS because of reasons (is it possible to subscribe now after it ended?), I'm sure a lot of people haven't either. No need to be rude. Regardless, I think there should be new threads about very update, even if for the discussion factor - we are in a forum sfter all ;) Aaaaanyways... That thing's looking goooooooood :D And good to see Ilya's on it (although sounding a wee bit down - cheer up lad, great job :)) and everything is running smoothly.

Here's the full photo :) Looking amazing, well done! PS: Sorry if it's already fixed in the final version, but just a minor thing I spotted - the little bump behind the cockpit should be a lighter grey. Nonetheless, it's an amazing skin!

Nevada Dambusters, diveplane? :D What a stunning video though, really looking forward to it!

Makes sense. And should save a vast amount of time for them and other developers as well. Thanks, I'd overlooked that :)

Probably someone mistook the concept of multirole aircraft with multirole programmer :music_whistling: The only thing that'd make some sense to hold off until EDGE is mostly done (which, by the latest updates, it seems to be to a good extent) would be the externals if to optimise them somehow... but the externals are done already so :D

I find your lack of faith (in ED) disturbing. As far as I recall the Hornet has been in the works since before DCS: World was released (around the time of that trailer for World or CA from a couple years ago which ended on a Hornet launched from the catpult). 4 years seems plain silly to be honest. The thickest of work needed for the Hornet is in the systems. ED and 3rd parties (as far as NDA allows us to know) have been working together to tackle issues with modelling the avionics. Just like a supersonic AFM paves the way to the rest, the same goes for avionics. I expect once the first 4th gen aircraft is released, the rest will come by soon enough. If bezcl is planning a 2013 release on their 3rd gen plane, 4th gen should start coming from next year. As a note, the Eurofighter and F-15E aren't that close to release, the MiG-21 is. RAZBAM is working in a trainer, VEAO is finishing theirs. Both have a fair amount of work in cockpits and etc, but there's a lot more than that.

To be honest I meant a modern recreation of it, more to explore the map's possibilities as a stand in. In other words, recreate the missions with the closest modern equivalent of the aircraft. Biggest shortcoming is that there's no flyable fast fighter-bomber. For a historical 'nam, I think for starters a map and one flyable aircraft does the cut - after all, we started with only the Flanker and look where we are now :) One of the most important features for immersion is a good selection of AI aircraft. If we have that then slowly add more that'd be wonderful. I think we'll have something made as soon as EDGE and the map SDKs are out, this is something a lot of people have been dreaming of.

Aaaaaand now we're talking :D

Russian Air Force Photos and Video (NO DISCUSSION)
Lucas_From_Hell replied to Flаnker's topic in Military and Aviation
I agree, however when was the last time Russia actually surprised us in a positive way? When I was there, and talked daily to people with proper acess to info (and as GGTharos said, a lotmof that info isn't published but is still known to people involved/related), all I ever heard were how they were a misorganised, overstaffed, underpaid and poorly funded bunch. Only those who know it can attest to it, the Russian organisation, corruption and bureocracy could drive the USAF's funding down the drain. It's ridiculous but it's true, govt. organisations have so many people in the chain of command that getting anything done properly is impossible. They lost their place on the Brazilian F-X2 competition with the Su-35, which was a favourite among many, because their mess didn't allow ROSOBOROEXPORT (did I spell that right?) to send their bid on time. It makes no sense to stock up with an old weapon when a new one is coming, especially when there are no air wars in sight where the R-77 will be essential. And as mentioned, if an embargo happens due to tensions, that's the end of your stock right there. Also, don't get me wrong but I'll take GGTharos's word in this case. ED has staff that's ex-RuAf. They talk to RuAf personnel all the time. If anyone has a good source, it's them. Pilots are good source of half-reliable info :D if it won't be the Holy Grail, at least it'll give you some leads. -
Russian Air Force Photos and Video (NO DISCUSSION)
Lucas_From_Hell replied to Flаnker's topic in Military and Aviation
Let's not get personal here. To be honest it sounds like a thing the Russian Air Force would do - not relying on a weapon with foreign parts (can anybody shine a light on what countries are these components from?) and not disclosing the status of their stock. The Russian military is known for showing off technological advances that work but operationally are just smoke and mirrors - they test it, it works well and they can use it, but practically speaking odds are there are at most few missiles available. To counter that impression of course, add deadweight ones to anything vaguely compatible. This is of course my personal opinion and impression. -
VRC is doing the Super Sabre D, so that's already our ride :D We have AI F-4 and F-5, so it helps. More than the map, I think we're missing aircraft. You can use a map to simulate another region jist fine - it's been done before a thousand times, and it will be done again. Wasn't there a fantastic campaign for BS1 that used the Caucasus as India or something like it? Plus a lot of old Il-2 great campaigns used the same region to simulate Southeast England. I had this idea... Someone should really grab Thud Ridge and recreate some missions with the available planeset (perhaps using equivalents e.g. A-10 replacing the Skyraider?) and map, just to get the feel of it (and explore the Caucasus as a stopgap for a 'nam map).

Pepin, can you give us a reliable source on that? -
You can always get interesting stories from those episodes, thanks for sharing. I raise you this however - Mysticpuma's 2007 Il-2 rendition of Johnson's story. Thrilling then, still thrilling now!

I don't actually have an answer sheet you see, but I'm inclined to say you got most of them right :D I'm unsure if the Vigilante is an attack or recce version though. And msvegas, either counts. Vanveken, you nearly gave me a heart attack with that photo - clearly a PS job, it's being referred to as "Tucará" (Tucano + Pucará). The concept was done to bring the question: is there still room for a twin engine turboprop A/O aircraft like the Bronco or is that a thing of the past? If my eyes don't fail me, in the same photo you can spot some Armée de l'Air Mirage 2000-5s behind it. Probably CRUZEX. The Brazilian Air Force is retiring its M2000 this year, also. Replacements haven't been announced yet, and F-5EM and FM will be filling the gap until then. Rumours were that the F/A-18E/F was to be anniunced, however the spying scandals surfaced shortly before that and the whole thing went down the drain. The air force pays the price. So far it's still Gripen, Super Hornet and Rafale, and no decisions made. -

Let's play a fun game - how many different a/c are seen in this photo, with bonus points for variants :D -

In the photo of the VVS MiG refueling the IAF one, what models are we talking about? MiG-35 serving a MiG-29K (or SMT maybe)? Great shots by the way! -
TeamVRC: F-100D Module
Lucas_From_Hell replied to SkateZilla's topic in Utility/Program Mods for DCS World
Thanks for the update, I'm really happy to see the Hun coming along, and glad you're still on it! :) -
Thanks for the screenies, Pat :) It's coming along really nicely - textures and the likes are indeed important, but these can come later. I think for now the 3D model, FM and systems are the essential - if my memory doesn't fail me, there were videos of bezcl's MiG-21bis demonstrating JATO and other features where the whole aircraft was either fully white or orange from the outside. My point is, good eye candy can be added later, but it'll only be worth it if the core of it is good. All devs work in different ways and workflows of course, but as long as the final product works well I couldn't care less. Tht being said, there is some good advice here, and I think getting another texture artist to work with you would be a good idea later on - even if you can make good textures yourself, having a second pair of eyes and ideas can be helpful, and also release you to focus on the ins and outs of the module. Keep up the good work! :)

Surely will :) For now, I'm relegated to tablet pilot - never complaining about being "desktop pilot" sgain :D (on the other hand the planeset is fab - nearly everything from '54 to '91, only with crappy FMs and icons everywhere)

Cheers :) I've been aboard the DCS boat since 2009 with the 1.0.2 Shark and FC2 (and before that Flanker 2.5, Lock On and then FC1), but my old rig still hasn't allowed me to make the transition to World yet (mainly the low specs (unmodded HP 6050 from 2009) and 32-bit Vista I haven't had the time to upgrade, and the fact that it has been sitting aprox. 1300km away in a storage room since July, confining my flight simulation experience ever since to mobile versions of Strike Fighters). Sorry for not being in touch, I still stalked the forums constantly and was delighted when I heard you guys transitioned to DCS :) But as soon as I get that black box back (and give it a touch up) and grab a copy of the Pony we should definitely fly together again :D
