  1. Good news for you mate, a lot of 3rd parties are going for multi-role aircraft - and the development so far is beautiful :D Some links that might be pleasing: Coretex's F/A-18E: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=90154 RAZBAM's AV-8B: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=93794 RAZBAM's F-15E: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=94313 VEAO's Eurofighter (if you've been in the bandwagon since Flaming Cliffs you may remember a beautiful Typhie mod they did for it, what a joy it was): http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=89729 Each are in separate stages of development but you already have something to look forwards to :) Personally I'd kill for a Tornado - either version, both are beautiful aircraft. And as said before, a Mirage 2000C, going to be gone soon. The Tornado F3's left the RAF and ItAF going to be fully retired with the Royal Saudi Air Force soon exchanging their last aircraft for Typhoons. Not entirely sure how former operators would be willing to disclose some information though, but one can dream :D PS: Am I the only one who finds it odd that there isn't any interest for the F-5E? That lil' guy's an absolute beauty
  2. Cheers guys, thanks for the help :) I'll let you know if I need something - amos2006 did a neat job, now I'm waiting for their reply :)
  3. Indeed. Maybe we can simulate the missions the boys flew over and near Libya (something like the Tornado 8-hour 3000mi SEAD sortie, 3 refuelings on the way in, 1 out) :D Should be twice as much fun with some capable GAI ready to play chase :music_whistling:
  4. I think Lock On takes the cake on development and support - after all, Flaming Cliffs 3, technically speaking, an add-on to the original LOMAC. That's 2003. Ten years of it and it's still one of the best flight simulators ever. Second to, well, DCS :D
  5. Terribly sorry, my bad there. Something made me think it was coming within a future update
  6. I don't think the expectations are inflated - as you can see people are going absolutely crazy over the UH-1H, which is a fairly simple ride. And about EDGE maps, I think they should stay free because otherwise we'll end up with a 'class divide' where the more committed gamers with enough money in their pockets will be flying EDGE and the rest - less committed lads and committed ones who can't afford the maps at said moment - will be left with the old map (the same thing that happens in "Member-Only" areas of numerous online games), and I think that's kind of against the DCS:World idea of having everyone together.
  7. Sorry to be that guy, but guys, please tone it down a little bit, all are entitled to opinions but once the opinions start being about how you don't give a rat's ass about the other's opinion and/or about ones ma', it stop being fun and moderators jump in. No need to be hostile here, regardless of how much each disagree with the other's opinions.
  8. I'm also "outside The Wall" but my guess is that, for the same reasons you rave about the 'Stang, those lads and lassies are going bonkers because of the Huey. It can be called the P-51 of helicopters if you will, it's way too iconic. While the jet crew grew up on the F-14 scenes on TOPGUN, the rotary crew had the UH-1 scenes in Apocalypse Now! (I haven't even touched the Huey, but I think we need a "Loudspeaker" added to the loadout so pilots can blast some music over the battlefield :D). We're talking about a helo that's been the backbone of nearly any Western army you name in the world for the past 50+ years. Obviously, it isn't for everyone - while some people were hardly impressed by a 1940's piston-engined fighter, some folks don't really understand an utility helicopter that doesn't even carry countermeasures. But when you put those two together, things really work out, you get the fighter jocks cleaning the area, the muddy jet gang makes chews on enemy lines without having to worry about missiles raining on them, Ka-50s take out whatever they can find and the utility helicopter... You see, that's the beauty of it. One would think that an utility helicopter is far from cool since it isn't really dedicated even vaguely to any task but it's rather the opposite - those guys can do ANYTHING they want. Need CSAR? You got it. MEDEVC? Yes sir. Need troop insertion? You got it. Need some strafing? Sure, right away. Recon? Easy. Spotting targets? Yup, got it. Coordinating friendly units? As you wish. The Ka-50s deployment in Chechnya came with a Ka-29. The Helix would fly recce and designate targets for a pair of Ka-50 flying with it. If the Huey doesn't appeal to you, just leave the fanboys and girls at it and go make sure the enemy leaves them alone too :D
  9. Not too sure about the Mi-28 (which also looks pretty sturdy), but at least with the Mi-24, pilots rely on it very much. Although it doesn't indeed have an ejection seat, it can take-off with only one engine, the cockpit is heavily armoured all around, and generally it can take a hell of a beating and still bring you home (in fact I heard that Russian pilots often prefer the Hind to the Havoc) Look for the Mi-24 stories from Afghanistan :)
  10. What about F-35s though (or relocating F-22s replaced in active service, in the future)? Although I think with 5th gen aircraft no one will really see much paint whatsoever...
  11. I wonder if they'll bring together a 5th gen' fighter aggressor squadron once Russia gets the PAK-FA operational?
  12. Seems to be part of an Aggressor squadron, hence the red star on the tail coupled with US markings on the side of the fuselage - they're paid to fool you for Russians :P
  13. We do have a MRF - P-51D :D EDIT: Just saw the word jet now... If the tail's on fire does that count?
  14. I'm willing to be that the "Rudolph's nose" is a sort of targeting computer or something of the likes - the Mi-24/35 has a black ball to its left that has such function at least. Under the nose there's a FLIR, and under that as you pointed out, is an IR-TV and laser set. The silver thing on the side of the nose seems to be a set of NAV/landing lights. I'm clueless on the missiles though, Wiki has it that they can carry 8 Igla-Vs so you're probably right :) PS: Apparently it can also bring a pair of R-73s on board, if a Mi-28 module is ever done, fighter/attack boys will have nasty surprises :D
  15. To the people who are citing time as a reason, let's not forget that the core of the Greek forces is essentially the same as all other NATO nations - we already have F-16 Block 52, Mirage 2000-5s and F-4Es for fighters, C-130H for loads, plus the army flies AH-64A and D, CH-47s, aaand big plus they fly the very UH-1H we're now polishing/crashing :D The core of ground forces is also that very same NATO inventory (with a few Russian additions here and there). Correct me if I'm wrong, but all there is to it are the medals, roundels and skins, no?
  16. Hello peeps, sorry to interrupt your CSAR, but since you probably have the downed pilot aboard, could you spare a few minutes to help a fellow airman (who shall probably be shot down soon while flying an F-15 too close to Old MacDonald's SAM Farm :music_whistling:)? I am doing some extensive genealogic reseach to obtain Italian citizenship, and I have learned that my Italian ancestor first arrived in Urugay, in Montevideo, prior to moving to Brazil. The National General Archives (Archivo General de la Nación) holds immigration records from the XIX century, and I believe the information I am looking for is there. Anyone who speaks fluent Spanish and English (or Portuguese) and can help, could you please write here so I can contact you via PM? It's a very short e-mail, but very important :) Cheers everyone, and watch out for... for anything that can shoot at you really, counter-measures aren't in the dictionary in this bird :D
  17. Ever seen the cockpit of this beauty? Now THAT will be fun to fly :D
  18. Not sure if anyone mentioned it before but... How about a Mirage 2000C module? :music_whistling: France replaced all of their M2000C fleet by the 2000-5, with different engine and avionics, and those are slowly being replaced by the Rafale. The only country operating the Mirage 2000C ATM is Brazil, with 10 aircraft on lease, but the maintenance contract expires this December, and there are virtually no engines left for them (the production line was shut down, and France has taken all reserves for their Mirage 2000B trainers). As far as I can tell, all other countries are operating customised variants with a different avionics suite, new radars, weapons and etc. (and many already fly Mirage 2000-5 and variants). It's a very capable multi-role fighter with tremendous manouverability, and a plane I believe all pilots are fond of in a way or another - and now that its operators have moved on from it, I'm inclined to believe there isn't as much classified information as there is regarding current front-line fighters like the latest F-16 or F/A-18 variants. Anyone here supports this proposition? Give the people a Mirage 2000 :D
  19. sungsam, I don't think we'd have to implement those regions at all to be honest. For a good example, we have Ukraine modeled but Crimea is long gone (though I really do miss having it modeled). I believe both Greek and Italian armed forces (not just air forces) could be a fantastic addition to the Caucasus scenario we have there - after all, we already have the UK (limitedly model though), France and Germany (even bloody Israel's there), I don't see any reason why Italy and Greece shouldn't be there, especially considering their history within NATO :)
  20. Since we touched the subject of Greece, it'd be doubly awesome to have ITALY added to the game too. In fact, I never really understood why wasn't it modelled, considering that it has always been a large contributor in NATO's latest conflicts. Besides the so-far unmodelled Typhoon, they fly a fair number of Tornados, and have operated 34 F-16s until May 2012. Also, they operate a number of AMX attack aircraft, which would come very handy in the theatre DCS simulates (a light, sturdy subsonic day/night fighter with low IR signature and RCS, built-in ECM, nose-mounted M61 gun, two wingtip rails plus five hardpoints that can carry 3,800kg worth of missiles, general purpose bombs, laser guided bombs and rockets - and as a bonus, the Italian version has a built-in APU, so name a street and it becomes an airbase. Yes, I'm trying to sell this idea. But it's because that tiny mofo can be your worst nightmare, as proven by exercises). The Navy has a carrier and 16 Harriers. In terms of helicopters, besides the usual list of utility regulars (Sea King, Twin Huey, etc etc), the Army currently operates 24 Chinooks and the almighty babe Mangusta, which has already been on holiday to Afghanistan and Iraq. Greece would also be a fantastic addition and I'd love to see it as well, but if you're bringing Greece into the Caucaus, for Bitching Betty's sake, take Italy with you - they're one of the most active NATO members and have been behind all recent joint operations you can name. Pretty please? :D
  21. It'd be cool to be able to set a delay to dumb ammunitions e. g. unguided bombs and rockets. Modeling that would be quite handy when attacking targets like bunkers, or anything that would require the explosives to penetrate before going off. About radio comms, there's one thing which, IMHO, DCS really lacks. I strongly believe we could really use having a female voice actor to voice one of the wingmen. First of all, female pilots are a clear reality nowadays, and they really deserve the recognition - and not just as random wingmen, 4th Fighter Wing's commander is a woman after all. And it makes the sim more realistic, too. Besides that, I think it's commercially wise. Flight simulators are already enough of a male-dominated area, I think it's already about time we include the ladies in the sim as something other than ATC and Betty, and it sort of breaks the idea that sims are only a "man thing" :) Or better than having a wingman, it'd be amazing if ED implemented an option in the Options menu where you could choose the voice of your own pilot between male and female :) For the ones who don't see the true advantage of this, your wives [future ones included] might not only tolerate DCS more, but also encourage it and join in :D
  22. Was at a Brazilian Air Force short live-fire demo yesterday. Unfortunately the low clouds didn't allow the F-5EM and A-1 (AMX) to do their run - the bombs wouldn't have the minimal 4-seconds airborne. However, four A-29 (EMB-314) did a medium altitude bombing run, and two Mi-35M did two runs, first with the 23mm cannon, and a second one with rockets. Excuse the crap photography skills and lack of zoom :music_whistling: A-29 - "bombs gone!" The explosion, detonated 6 meters underground. By the way, am I missing something or we don't really have any kind of delay for bombs or rockets in DCS/FC? I know the Il-2 series had that, but are we getting that any sooner? Can be quite useful if implemented  Mi-35M firing its canon. (PS: again, note tracers, not as clear as before) I got lucky as hell and accidentally caught a shot of tracers mid-air :D So if you lads are ever caught wondering how 23mm shells REALLY look like in real life, here's what the camera says:
  23. Your shots are absolutely beautiful  Here's one I took yesterday, Santa Cruz AFB, Rio de Janeiro, during Fighter Aviation Day celebrations/Fighter Aviation Reunion (RAC). Two Mirage 2000BR (French 2000C on lease, contract ends December this year) and two F-5EM (EMBRAER upgrade with Italian Grifo-F radar) fly over the runway while the Minister of Defence gives Brigadeiro Nero Moura medals to the awarded (high-res shot).
  24. I'm sure that in the face of combat, Topol will promptly send a paper to the enemy lines with an impossible aircraft riddle - while they're distracted trying to figure what is it, you strike :D
