Release: Better AIM-7 and AIM-120 with clipped fins
Cosmonaut replied to walmis's topic in 3D Modeling for DCS World
All missiles smoke dude ;) even the Aim120 .. it just smokes much, much less than others. Have a look at any F22 footage when its firing amraams and you can see plainly that they smoke.. right now in LO bullets smoke more ;).. this isn’t a priority by any means just saying if they are updating the model then maybe throw some smoke our way too. :) -
F14 Tomcats vs. Japanese Zeros :shocking: Actual footage .. :suspect: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=la9mHKnJ2ro&mode=related&search= When are we going to get Zeros in the game?? This bias isn’t fair I tell you we have Tomcats but no Zeros… :protest:

Its not really all that difficult, the 2000 only has one Engine so you can cut him down pretty easy… just don’t turn with and you should be OK.

Release: Better AIM-7 and AIM-120 with clipped fins

Will we also be getting some smoke when we fire an Aim120? I just don’t get the same satisfaction from a missile, when I fire it, if it doesn’t smoke ;) Also any chance the HUD will get an update..? I know probably not but the Eagle’s HUD is pretty awful, IMO it’s the worst piece of graphics in the sim….Flanker 2.5 pits never had anything that bad. -
golfsierra2 there’s no excuse for rude behavior on forums like this no matter what job the person does… IMO you don’t really know who you’re talking to, whether it’s a firefighter, police officer, doctor etc so I personally always give people respect then I take it away when they act like an ass .. That said when conversing on a forum you’ve got to expect to have a conflict with someone every once in a while and you should never take it as seriously as you’re doing especially seeing as what’s been said wasn’t very confrontational. Just say your piece and move onto another thread, remember this is a forum regarding a game and if some people are still motivated to be impolite then that’s their problem just don’t let it affect your life or the next step will be that other forum members will start accusing you of whining etc which will just piss you off even more. Lets just end this now.

Thanks a lot. :D It’s the Hungarian Nato type skin isn’t it? I tried the one you posted earlier, I think they have that one at Lockonfiles as well and it looks great.. but the one I posted looks slightly more realistic .. However I’m using them both heh :)

Great video!! After watching it I had to get that skin! I found this one and it looks great  . http://www.lockonfiles.com/modules.php?name=Downloads&d_op=viewdownloaddetails&cid=69&lid=114&ttitle=MiG-29_Hungarian_AF_2048x/1024x#dldetails

This is a true story and pops up every so often on most aviation forums .. http://www.f-16.net/modules/pnGallery2/gallery2/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=106224&g2_serialNumber=2 http://www.f-16.net/modules/pnGallery2/gallery2/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=106223&g2_serialNumber=2

Sure. :) Its not all that difficult once you can perform a basic evasion, if there is such a thing ;) . Anyway I wanted to figure out a way to give both my wingman and I a good chance of surviving an engagement and the method I use is successful about 7 or 8 out of ten times. Also for the second target you can choose a host of different methods to make the kill, especially if you forget about your wingman and you just want to practice a close in missile fight or what ever. The idea is to use your wingman as bait until you score both kills; First pincer to separate the enemy but don’t let your wingman get too far, then lock the bandit gunning for your wingy and tell him to engage your enemy.. then lock the bandit gunning for you and take him out. Ok now your wingy will most likely still attack the enemy that’s going for you (because of ECM I think) but it doesn’t matter because he’s just there for bait anyway so just concentrate on the bandit gunning for you. After you fire your first missile don’t slow down too much as part of your f-pole maneuver instead be more aggressive as you move in for your second shot keeping and eye on your 10/11 o’clock, you’ll actually fly by the bandit shooting at your wingman. Note; don’t spare your missiles because you must keep the fighter you’re shooting at defensive at all times until he’s shot down. In the second track I posted I was a little sparing with my missiles which most likely left me having to make an evasion that I probably didn’t have too. Once you score the first kill just turn towards the second bandit and shoot.. that’s pretty much it. If you got the first one down in time then you should be able to get the second fighter before he finishes off your wingman. Also you can use the mission/ tactic to practice all kinds of “stuff”; In the second track (gunz) I chose to forget about my wingy and go for the guns kill.. no reason just felt like some acm combat. Oh and I didn’t use ecm pods for this training mission.. once again no real reason other than I like it that way but feel free to change anything you want, I usually use EM’s but here I am using ER’s. 2 Tracks

There is no sure fire way to engage superior numbers in a Russian fighter.. so any mission that forces you into that position shouldn’t be taken seriously.. It can be fun but you should see the solution resting on repetitive play until you figure out the AI patterns for that particular mission…. Although there maybe a way for you to sneak up on them using the data link and then engage EOS with the R73 or ET missile.. Now two on two is where the flanker really can dominate against AI .. I have a very good tactic that works almost every time for this scenario.. Missions that take into consideration the capability of the fighter, with in reason, are far better because they require a tactical solution rather than repetitive play to gain mission success.

If you have a look at the score board you will see that most of the pilots online don’t have more than a 1 to 1 kill ratio so don’t get discouraged if you get shot down a lot especially in the beginning. Like you I fly alone and the best advice I can give you is to fly to survive. Now this may seem obvious but most new players fly to get the kill and surviving the engagement is of secondary importance. Flying for the kill can and will be frustration if you’re up against an opposition that’s working as a team and that can herd you to a vulnerable position. However if you are flying to survive you never get in over your head, if you see multiple bandits then take up a defensive position or run back to your own air base where you are bound to find reinforcements. Also try not to get to close to the enemy airbase unless you’re on a strike mission but apart from that I usually engage my two thirds rule which is, if I split the distance from my airfield to the enemies into three sections I will only fly two thirds out even if I’m chasing someone. If they are smart enough to run then you should also be smart enough to know when enough is enough. There’s no point in getting the kill after flying into a nest of fully fueled enemy fighters that are waiting to chase you back while you’re fuel gauge is reading “fumes”. Note: Flying this way will mean a lot of flying around but the rewards are far greater IMO. Lastly record your online play then run it through ACMI … you’ll most likely be surprised at what is actually going on. Oh one more lastly ;) If you do get your self into a bad situation then never give up no matter how bad things get always dig in and try to think, what is the best way to survive the encounter whether its shoot back, hide, run or crawl just do what ever it takes even though in those circumstances your probably moments away from the ejection handled every once in a while your last ditch effort will pay off. -
Your problem is you’re still using the runway ;) .... “Runway? We don’t need no stinking runway”. Su25T Landing

What I do is accelerate the sim speed and things will a little faster. ;) .
-
Yep that pretty much sums it up. Also with ECM on you will most likely get a late warning of an Amraam coming your way so be aware that ECM can make things more difficult for you if you don’t have a good understanding of how and when to use it. No one here is saying never add to someone else’s “HUD Matrix effect” but don’t think of jamming as something you automatically do after take off like raising your landing gear.
-
I call that “the ECM forest” .. ;) Even if you get an extra mile closer to a sam site it wont do you much good if you’ve alerted a fighter to your location. IMO if your flying an A10 or a Frog online and there’s fighters showing up on your warning systems then leave the ECM off or it’ll just be a matter of time before you have A2A missiles as well as SAM’s to deal with.
-
In lockon I have only really found ECM useful when engaging F14’s with AIM54’s. With my ecm on, the first 54 is way too easy to evade .. so easy I would say its not even tracking me however it’s a completely different ball game if you don’t carry ECM pods… try it your self and see. I’m not an A2G expert but ECM here also has its limitations seeing as you can only prevent a sam launch for a few seconds longer than when not jamming. In most circumstances you will get to fire your radar missile with plenty of time to easily evade the sam whether you jam or not…

What's with that yellow HUD???
Cosmonaut replied to Black_Hawk's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
I don’t understand the HUD color fetish either, I only use green but you can change it so I guess it’s what ever melts your butter.. -
OT- what anti-virus software do you use?
Cosmonaut replied to SuperKungFu's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
LOL .. well I wouldn’t actually remove it even if I could but I think there is a way of installing windows that might let you, …well lets just say leave out IE. -
Sounds like you had a few unlucky days. I was online a few days ago and the ECM thing really is a problem .. Personally I never use ECM unless I’m running and I can break lock by jamming but the Matrix effect, in the HUD, gets tiring after a while and it leads you right to the area where other team mates might be trying to stay out of the way. I actual shot down an A10 that was jamming while flying really low .. I mean what’s the point of flying under the radar if you’re going to broadcast where you are with your ECM.. makes no sense. Fortunately I wasn’t Tked although it got close once when a Su27 picked up my tail .. Luckily it got visual and I managed to get on his six then flew by flashing my nav lights and then he finally figured it out.

OT- what anti-virus software do you use?
Cosmonaut replied to SuperKungFu's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
5 Hours! Wow you must have loaded up HD ;) It takes me about an hour and a half for a full scan which I do once a month. It never detects anything because Kas catches everything before it makes onto my hard drive. I would suggest the next time you start a full scan that you wait until you wont be using your pc for a while .. like before you go to sleep. :smilewink: Anyway I use Nero for burning and Firefox for surfing the web. Las week I used IE for the first time in months and after clicking a link from a post in the Americas Army forum Kaspersky stopped a Trojan trying to infect my system .. lets just say I’m thinking of uninstalling IE ;) -

Norton is the worst or one of the worst, don’t trust it and don’t use it. I use Kaspersky and it’s the best, check out any online comparison and you’ll see that Norton scores are average. Also when I did use Norton I couldn’t game with on because I would notice a certain choppiness when playing but with Kaspersky I don’t even drop a single frame, it just sit there silently in the systems tray doing its thing. http://www.virus.gr/english/fullxml/default.asp?id=82&mnu=82 -

Flashing TD box - What does it mean?
Cosmonaut replied to SilentBob's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
It does it atomically once you are in range of the IRST. If you loose radar lock and the IRST can pick up the target then you’ll switch seamlessly to an IR lock. This is why anyone flying Russian fighters has to maintain an awareness of exactly when the radar fails to maintain its illumination of the target. Even when the radar relocks your SARH missile has most likely gone ballistic and you still wont be in IR missile range. HUD symbols on the left center are T for IR and N for radar (CCM mode then radar symbol is P)
