There is a thread in the bugs forum related to a very sensitive trim input. I only experienced this when I entered landing configuration with auto pilot on. (ATTH but it might be any of them causing problems). It would manifest itself as soon as the flaps and gear are lowered, not in the final part of the approach, as you described. Any turbulent air setup at the ground level? Also, I hope you're not using the auto throttle.

need track replay Trim issue when landing on super carrier
maxTRX replied to pixie's topic in Bugs and Problems
I've seen the trim sensitivity issue whenever I entered PA mode with auto pilot ATTH active (I haven't experimented with other auto modes). When I was flying in IFR conditions I used ATTH frequently and sometimes I would drop gear and flaps w/o disengaging ATTH. I didn't expect any issues caused by this. Well, it did cause the trim to misbehave. Pressing the paddle wouldn't fix it. I had to raise flaps to exit PA mode then drop them again (I actually cycled both, gear and flaps) and the problem disappeared. So, for now I always make sure there are no auto pilot modes active before going to landing config. -
In good'ol days, many OB builds ago, we were able to do this. The lock was shaky but possible. Then again... I used to lock the helos in A/G mode with MavF using HUD and shack/splash them

fixed Unable to input 10 digit grid as O/S point
maxTRX replied to maxTRX's topic in Bugs and Problems
Very short track. First, trying to enter grid coords into O/S (from wpt 1) - only 6 digits are accepted. Then, entering the same grid into the first available (blank) waypoint. (#5) - no problem there. OS grid.trk -
I remember using 'another' sim with HARM SP acting a bit differently. When OVRD was boxed, the behavior was similar to what we have here. (although I haven't checked every display config yet) When OVRD was not boxed, as soon as the tracking radar(s) or missile(s) had a lock on my jet, the pullback mode was activated. Regardless of current weapon/ master mode selected the pullback would bring HARM's SP display on LDDI and EW display on RDDI. If multiple critical threats were present, the HARM/RAID switch was used to cycle through them. EW display would show these threats not HARM's SP page. The only requirement to launch the HARM was master arm on. No need to switch master modes. If the current mode was A/A and the Amraam was ready to launch, when all of a sudden the SAM started tracking me, I could still fire the Amraam in spite of HARM's SP displays popping up on my DDIs and almost simultaneously fire off the HARM. Whenever ground threats were suppressed, the SP displays would vanish and I continue with whatever I was doing. The reason why most people used OVRD was pretty obvious when lining up on a ground target, second or two from pressing release button and all of a sudden SP displays popped up. With OVRD boxed, I had enough time to finish the primary mission, unbox the HARM OVRD and fire the HARM. Also, in most A/A scenarios the pullback might not be needed, with bandits in close proximity. BTW, I noticed we can't unbox the HARM OVRD (at least I couldn't) when in A/A mode. I had to to switch to A/G > HARM SP then unbox it.

6 digits work fine. 'Precise' is boxed on HSI/DATA. Specifying O/S with range and bearing works fine also. Once the point is entered using bearing and range, the 10 digit grid for this point is also shown. No problem entering precise grid as a waypoint/OAP. edit: I didn't think track was needed for this, if so I'll go through the drill.

As Recluse said, master arm switch has to be ON. For some weird reason the MavF seeker will not uncage if the MA switch is off. The missile should be powered up already when 'MAVF' is boxed on STORES page.

Thanks, I wonder if I should pile up the O/S part on top of the QTY issue. I'll probably make a separate post in the bugs section when I get a chance. Does anyone know what's up with the 'O/S' button on JDAM's page? Non functional or any other mech. required to activate?
-
Since JDAM's don't take direct grid input and O/S button on JDAM page is inactive, I used HSI data page to input 6 digit grid from JTAC (no high expectations for accuracy ;/). I decided to use O/S for the grid so I wouldn't have to change my WPT. Everything looked good until I exited DATA and designated O/S as target. JDAM was showing OAP coords. So, I then decided to make my OAP a target using the same grid I used for O/S. Once OAP was programmed, I had to re-designate it as target so the JDAM would switch from original OAP (wpt1) to my new OAP. It worked. When I went back to HSI > DATA, I could verify my new OAP was correct and jibing with JDAM but the O/S grid was different now. It looked like the new OAP 'took' the old O/S and placed it at the bearing and range inherited from the original designation... I know it all sounds chaotic. Another issue I noticed was JDAM in TOO would not retain coordinates after undesignating the last target in a sequence. If I kept the last JDAM's target designated, I couldn't s step through previously programmed JDAMs without the last coords being forced on all stepped bombs. If I undesignated the last target in a sequence, the last JDAM would loose the program (unlike in previous OB builds) and stepping through other bombs would wipe them out too. Also, this affects QTY release, since the release drops them in sequence so all the bombs take the coords from the first released bomb. It steps through all the JDAMs selected for QTY release. Can someone confirm that at least some of these issues are bugs, some may not be implemented yet and there's always a possibility of user error.

I can live with a short wake but this ripple wave effect behind the ship and how it 'stands out' on a smooth surface drives me nuts. Looking at the water surface from external view, at around the sea level doesn't look bad at all. As soon as view point changes, climbing up, it starts looking strange.

DCS: F/A-18C Screenshots and Videos (NO DISCUSSION)

A little shaky but I brought her in -
+1 This is one of these reoccurring requests from way back... I flew many case I approaches in bright daylight but for some reason the landing area was invisible, so were the drop lights and the wake. I could barely break out the landing area as I was entering the groove.

It could be more then couple. The current radar will make you step through your own missiles first... of course. In my last fight I had L&S and DT2 designated. Before I was able to fire, just before R_ne, those 2 bandits split in vertical. By the time I revised the 'plan'... I only had time for step and fire, rinse and repeat. Yes, I was able to recognize the lock on my own missile, then the bandit's missile, then... weeds and run! The SMEs know better...

99, everyone switch to guard... Looks like everyone is different channel here or I can't tune in properly. What would be the main goal of this 'cheat'(term used by OP)? Training? That happens before embarking on combat missions and in my view requires competent instructors with enough SIM experience and/or written materials, pro vids/tracks, etc. I dare to assume that most posters here fall into this option. Or, ability to just jump in and learn on the fly as you tackle other aspects aerial combat and... look good as anyone else who put in the hours of training and effort and... chat and socialize and shoot s*** while doing all this. Or, accept the level of skill, whatever it may be and hope that ED makes different levels of difficulty (as I mentioned before) and go on with complex missions without worrying about what this refueling process looks like to others on the net. I'm cool with any of them. Oh, wait... I know, none of these come close.
-
Well, this wouldn't cut the mustard so... moving on.
-
Why not simply create 2 or 3 levels of difficulty for ifr. The 'level' would be the size of a 'bubble' around the drogue/boom or... the angle of line up, whatever. At the easiest level the drogue would jump out and snap on the probe/receptacle and dumb the receiver's control inputs or hold his jet in position.

Seems like the closing arguments will never come in any of these threads. My wish is that ED tribunal decides to introduce new realistic physics for inflight refueling, MANDATORY to learn in order to refuel in the air. Get the discipline and drive to learn going. The only crutch: ED could get some pro's to make formal vids or even tracks that would allow the 'cadets' to ride in the cockpit and get the visual references or perhaps come up with better ways themselves. No 'equity' and inclusiveness and... you know where I'm going with this, lol. The 'kids' with xbox consoles and such should be extra motivated to overcome the challenge... or scrounge some extra change.

If ED makes a 'funnel'/grid/point/gates' or any other type of visual indicators to guide the rookies who skipped FORMATION training... good luck. If they create some sort of force field inside a funnel that will 'nudge' the rookie to stay in the funnel and correct the speed when needed, that might work, until rookie realizes he won't be making any learning progress and decides to follow the universally accepted training syllabus and takes FORMATION course. Anyways, Regardless if it's a basket or a boom, the initial approach will be similar. Once joined up the left side of the tanker (right side is cool too if that what the group wants to do) in observation position which can be slightly above the tanker or below, wait your turn. Scoot over to a position behind and below the tanker, remembering not to hit the wake turbulence. Now, you have to know beforehand what visual cues for what airframe you will be lining up on. As it was mentioned already, what difference does it make whether your reference is some point on the refueler and how it lines up with your canopy bow, mirror, whatever... or the GRID. The lights on the boom type tankers work pretty good but they are not necessary. Orbiting AI tankers create a bit of a problem, for me at least. Every time I bank, the VV dips a tiny bit. Leveling up brings the VV up. Adding even a smidgen of power, bumps the VV up, not much just enough to throw me off. So... it took me quite a few times to get the handle on all this. In a Hornet, there is already a crutch that could be very helpful when gassing up from an orbiting tanker or in other difficult conditions. ATTH... (I can see some old timers frowning already ) It helps tremendously to stabilize the flight path.

correct as is GPS guided weapons PP mode coordinate entry inaccuracies
maxTRX replied to BarTzi's topic in Bugs and Problems
Yep, it is a strange procedure. I'd think completing all parts of any submenu and pressing 'Ent' would bring you back to top level of UFC entry menu. -
I know I can't bunch everyone here in a single group. Different ages, backgrounds. etc. Game/sim, doesn't matter... for most folks here it is always about competing, even when learning. It feels different when you learned something without silly crutches. If someone doesn't want to join a group, it's an extra kick when you find your own crutches and raise that bar on your own. There are no shortcuts or revelations... formations, formations and more formations will get this done.
-
If ED decides to come up with a crutch, they'd better test the on/off checkbox and make sure that it works. I don't feel like editing some lua files every update to disable the damn thing.

As I was zooming out in F2 view I decided to stop over by the boss' office to see what he looked like without his beer belly... he's skinny as a toothpick .
